About Me

Hello!

I've been at Siena since 2012, and I teach many things -- Science Writing, Biostatistics, Invertebrate Biology, Marine Ecology, and GenBio. I study the biology and ecology of spineless marine animals, with a special focus on marine worms (which are hugely diverse, incredibly colorful, and endowed with jaws and tentacles that would make any earthworm jealous). Most recently, my field work has taken me to the Gulf of Mexico, studying how mud-dwelling animals are coping with long-term contamination from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. I'm also a founding member and officer of CapSci, a non-profit organization dedicated to science outreach in New York’s Capital Region. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the greatest sport on earth: curling.

I live in the Schenectady area with my husband, our dog, and two cats:

Winston

Winston is a Great Pyrnees mix. He is a rescue, and we think he's about 11. Winston enjoys long walks, snacks, all people, and barking during Zoom meetings.

Charlie

Charlie is everything you could want in a cat. What he lacks in intelligence, he makes up for in charm. He's a mellow, happy guy who enjoys shredding cardboard.

Zoe

Zoe is incredibly sweet and gentle, but terrified of most things. Unless a turkey sandwich is on the line. She would kill her own mother for a turkey sandwich.

Here's a fun little write-up from the Siena Scoop!
