What is DDH (Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip)?
Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) is a common condition in newborns and infants where the hip joint does not develop normally. In DDH, the ball of the hip (femoral head) does not fit properly into the socket (acetabulum). This may lead to hip instability, partial dislocation, or complete dislocation. Early detection is essential because untreated DDH can lead to:
Limping
Pain
Shortening of the leg
Early arthritis
Permanent disability
