Dolly Parton's Imagination Library came to Otero County, New Mexico in April 2011. Dave Weaver brought a steering committee together, and our first book order was placed in August 2011!
The communities we serve gathered around us and have supported us through the years. With donations from individuals, local civic organizations, and businesses, we have gifted over 200,000 books as of December 2022! We are also proud to be a partner agency of THRIVE in Southern New Mexico! We are grateful to Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center for helping us to register babies as part of their checkout process!
Any child under the age of five years old is eligible for our program. We register local children and secure funds for book orders. There is ABSOLUTELY NO COST to the parents of children enrolled. It is a gift from our community.
Each month the registered children receive a book in the mail, addressed to them. It is a high-quality, age-appropriate book. Children receive a book each month until their fifth birthday. If a child is registered at birth, they will have a library of 60 books by the time they graduate from our program.
