The AppImage file needs to be marked executable before it can be run. You can do this in your file browser: navigate to and select the AppImage file, right-click and open file properties, navigate to permissions tab, then enable 'Allow executing file as program'. You can also do this in a terminal, simply with chmod +x *.AppImage. Once the AppImage is marked executable it can be 'double-clicked' on to start xemu. See AppImage documentation for more information about running AppImages and further system integration.

When using the flatpak installation method, only the ~/.var/app/app.xemu.xemu/data/xemu/xemu directory can be written to by xemu. The Hard Disk image must be placed there, for example at ~/.var/app/app.xemu.xemu/data/xemu/xemu/xbox_hdd.qcow2.

Hi all, I've run into an odd snag. So I have started to set up xbox games on my launchbox and been converting a well known HDD set over to iso files from folders. As I was going along I tested each disc in xemu and they worked, all until I got to the letter F. Any of the ones beyond this and Xemu just gives me the "Insert Xbox disc" error. I've tried other tools as well and no luck.

I guess my question is has anyone else had issues, or if they were able to convert everything? At least then I can rule out it being the set that is busted.

I've used the same settings and all so I'm at a loss as to what could suddenly be wrong.

Cheers

UPDATE:

So I tried to replace the HDD file again with a fresh one and now it works. It seems that over time it gets filled up? corrupted? or something and will not boot any "new" titles. I don't know exactly what is wrong, but if someone else gets this issue try replacing your HDD image with a fresh one. Not sure how this affects saves from games though

Looking in the documentation on the Xemu website there are no command-line parameters for resolution scaling. Although there is a parameter (-config_path), which you can use to tell Xemu to use an alternative config file (xemu.toml). Make a copy of xemu.toml and rename it to, for example, the name of your game. Open that copy of xemu.toml with an text editor and set your desired resolution scale factor from 1 to 10.

@shenglong I just realized, seeing as you use copies of xemu.toml, make sure they are in the emulator folder as well and that they also have all paths removed. Now Xemu should be portable. But beware. In my previous example for a LaunchBox custom command-line I used -config_path with an absolute path. If you put all custom .toml's in your Xemu folder, you could use a relative path in the LaunchBox custom command-line as well.

Does anyone know how to get project gotham 2 working? It says 'please insert an xbox disc..'

None of them work on Xemu, but PGR 2 stands on the compability list as a working game ( )

Most games work fine for me on xemu

Now when you launch any game in Xemu, it will launch Xb2input and wait for xemu to close and then close Xb2XInput.exe, making it so that the controller only works for Xemu and is never recognized by the system as a gamepad so it will never muck up your other emu mappings. Again, this is for a rather niche crowd that wants to use the OG controller for that authentic experience. Hope this helps someone out. I am sure there is a much easier way of doing this and if there is, lmk, I will try it out. Cheers!

Give your reasons for saying xemu is total shit? It's not it's fine over 60% compatibility is not bad. He even asked for reasons and you gave none. My guess is you don't know how to get it to work so it's total shit to you.

I've just tested that TAB works now (and btw I have to move restore to pageDown, since TAB was used that purpose ... for more, see the mentioned keymap-default.cfg file in the preferences directory, or the source file xemu/c64_kbd_mapping.c).

Hi, I have been trying all night to get xemu to connect to insignia. I have the 5690 dash installed, i run the helper ISO and it says it was successfully registered, I eject the disc>restart>navigate to settings>network settings>connect>

been trying to get xemu to run for hours on the steam deck. i'm at the point where it plays the animation, but then it tells me it can't find the hdd image. When i insert it in the machine xemu outright refuses to start and crashes immidiately.

xemu is an active fork of the XQEMU project, which is based on the very popular and highly actively maintained QEMU full system emulator project. xemu is a low-level, full-system emulator which emulates the actual hardware of the Xbox. It is the best Xbox emulator around, and can play 5x more playable titles than Cxbx-Reloaded with better performance than XQEMU.

In order to actually run xemu, you must have a copy of the stuff that a real Xbox needs when it turns on, check out the getting started section on the official wiki for instructions. The real MCPX and flash ROM are required, but one can still boot and play games using the dummy dashboard HDD image.

Unlike all other Xbox emulators (with the exception of XQEMU), xemu will only load games as disk images in the ISO format. Redump ISOs currently must be adjusted slightly by using the instructions in the Disc Images guide. Games as extracted folders in the "HDD Ready" format can be converted to ISOs using extract-xiso. It is also possible to install a custom dashboard such as UnleashX that supports installing and loading the games from the emulated hard drive.

I checked and all the correct files are where they need to be in ~/.var/app/app.xemu.xemu/data/xemu/xemu. I have also reinstalled but the same thing happens every time. Anyone have any ideas where I've gone wrong?

@grawlinson I am indeed having the same issues here. Manually setting the settings up in ~/.local/share/xemu/xemu/xemu.toml got me going. took me a while to find the correct option names so I will drop the important ones in here. YOU MUST skip the welcome screen to work. You also still have to kill the process to exit.

Maintainer for the xemu package here, I seem to be having issues with xemu versions past 0.7.0 (0.6.6 is the last build that works for me). I can start Xemu and fiddle with configuration, but that's about it. If I try and exit or run an ISO, it freezes and I have to pkill xemu. :(

There are 141 games with the system-link feature for the original xbox. To see if the game you want to play is supported please check the supported games page or look for "System Link" on the back of the game case.Be sure to check the game's compatibility with xemu's compatibility list 2351a5e196
