You can try making it private. No one will have access to it unless you specifically invite other users. To do that, go to General Settings tab of your website and in the Site Visibility section, choose it to be private.

Download Wordpress Website Offline

I am not a WordPress developer so I am not sure how to do this. But, I have a client who is looking to update their WordPress site. I have been able to do some of the stuff online, as in switching photos and such, and adding a few things into code, however, some of the things he is asking now, is nearly redeveloping a page. Which would be much easier to do locally offline and then push it back online after it's done.

To solve this problem, you can create a local, offline version of your website. This enables you to run and edit WordPress without needing an internet connection. By installing your site on your personal computer, you can test new features, learn how to use WordPress, and eventually make your edits live.

One simple way to avoid breaking your site is to create a staging environment. By making a copy of your live website, you can safely test development changes. Using Kinsta, you can even set up a staging site with one click:

To create a completely new WordPress website from scratch, select New WordPress site. This will build a local environment that is configured with Nginx, MySQL, and the latest WordPress software.

If you have a Kinsta hosting plan, you can clone your existing website. By doing this, you can easily push any changes back to your original staging environment or live site. To get started, select Import from Kinsta:

After you launch a local version of WordPress, you can open and manage your site even without an internet connection. When you get back online, you can simply push your changes to your live website. This way, you can complete development tasks at any time.

WordPress is open-source software for building a vast range of different websites for a variety of purposes. With WordPress, you can create personal blogs, a website for your small business, or a massive eCommerce store - and anything in between!Because WordPress has been developed over many years and is open source, it is responsible for about a third of mainstream, surface internet websites and is extremely popular among millions of people all around the world.

There are many benefits to building your WordPress site without an internet connection. Many people prefer this method because they can modify their webpages and build functionality without updating those features live on their real, mainstream internet website.

Since WordPress is so fast and easy to install, many website developers simply install the open-source software locally on their own personal computers and build websites there before manually importing them into their actual hosting panels.

If you want to make changes to your site while on an airplane, for example, you can simply use local software and host the website on a local server, which will allow you to make those changes and save them for a later date - when you can import them into your live site on the internet!

Xampp is one of the most popular software used for WordPress installation offline. If you first plan to learn how to use WordPress and its different features before developing your site live, Xampp is the right tool for it.

Xampp stands for Cross-platform (X), Apache (A), MariaDB (M), PHP (P), and Pearl (P). It is a free software and a very lightweight Apache distribution that makes it possible for developers like you to set up virtual servers and work on websites without putting them on the actual internet.

If everything went well, you should now be able to access the WordPress dashboard with localhost/yourwebsitename/wp-admin and view your site on localhost/yourwebsitename.

To do this, you simply need to follow the standard WordPress import process. You need to compile all your website files, which you edited using Xampp and WordPress on your localhost browser. You will also probably need to compress all of this into a single zip file.

In this article, we covered how to build and edit your WordPress site offline or when you do not have a good internet connection. We also explored the benefits of this functionality, such as the ability to work on your web pages when you are traveling or if your internet connection goes down.

It appears that Wordpress is designed to have websites constructed and maintained online - in the live website. I see some posts here that indicate some people are doing such development offline - in Localhost. But the effort to move a website online - especially for updates - appears to be complex, somewhat manual, and not at all automated. In fact, it's not clear of just the changes can be moved, or if the entire website would have to be reloaded. This seems complicated by visitor changes to the live website while updates are being created. And backups or version control of content - well I haven't gone far on that yet.

Concur with @perpetualstudent about offline development. If you start by installing on the webserver, then always copy in the direction of your PC dev you won't be overriding user data. There are two records in the wp_options table that need to be modified each time you copy the database, these are siteurl and home that need to change to point to your local PC webserver.

Sometimes I am working on my laptop where there is no internet connection. It's a great way to fill in a long plane flight and there are no interruptions or distractions while you work! Here's an article about how to stop timeouts from slowing everything down when you are using WordPress offline: -development-offline/

I would advise strongly against making any changes to any live website. You want to make changes in a protected (read: not public) environment to make sure you don't royally mess something up. Admittedly, however, it does take quite a bit of work to get an infrastructure in place that makes it easy to modify live sites safely.

I have just upgraded a large WordPress site through a number of environments, taking each one completely offline whilst I performed the upgrade. We're using IIS as the web server, but since I appreciate most people use Apache, I'll try and keep the steps as generic as possible to apply to both setups.

The site is now shutdown and cannot be accessed or updated. It is effectively static whilst you upgrade it - unless you have another web config pointing to the WordPress folder. If you do, take this offline in the same way.

A lot of the time you can make changes to your WordPress website without having to put it in maintenance mode. For example, you can publish new posts, update WordPress, and install new plugins without any downtime.

One solution is to set up a staging website so you can work on your site in private. Many of the top WordPress hosting companies offer 1-click staging websites, including Bluehost, SiteGround, and WP Engine.

SeedProd is the best landing page builder for WordPress, used on more than a million websites. It allows you to create beautiful coming soon pages in WordPress, improve your 404 page, and even design unique landing pages using drag and drop.

We hope this article helped you learn how to put your WordPress site in maintenance mode. You may also want to see our guide on how to create custom pages in WordPress, and our comparison of the best business phone services to allow visitors to contact you while your website is under maintenance.

i followed your advise and put my website on maintenance mode but i now want to undo the maintenance mode (my situation changed and i did not do any maintenance tbh). To disable the maintenance mode i tried to go to the admin area

but it takes me to the website and does not display admin login page from where i can disable the maintenance module(MM).

please help, how to reverse MM and get back the website live.

I am looking to create a wifi hotspot from my raspberry pi 3 that is disconnected from the internet, on the PI would be installed a web server with a WordPress installed on. As soon as someone connects to the PI's hotspot i want the WordPress website homepage (that i have created) to be displayed. So that i could use it in remote places to give information, documents... etc to people who need it

I know how to make a web server on a PII know how to setup a joomla website on a web server (i believe it is the same on a PI)i have never attempted to make a hotspot from my pii am not great at using the pi

How then, is it possible to make this entire site available for viewing (and distributing) offline? It would need to function exactly as the internet-connected version, serving up the same information and images.

Tom,

This is to say a big thank you for your publications. I have read some, such as -How to create a local WordPress website in windows with XAMPP; How to upload a local WordPress site; How to move your WordPress website from localhost to live server; etc and I find them all very interesting. You have done a good work and I have benefited a lot from it, though I am yet to try making any website. I think is now high time I made a WordPress website following your instructions . Thank you and regards. ff782bc1db
