i have a compressed file on my D: and its roughly 1.3 gigs, but when i try to decompress it to the same D: drive, it comes back and says I don't have enough space on my C: drive, and suddenly, i have 0bytes available.

WinRAR's temp directory is probably pointing at %TEMP% (which is likely on your C: drive). Unfortunately I'm not on a Windows machine so I can't tell you the exact location to change this, but there should be an option in WinRAR's settings to configure the temp directory's location.

If you specify a temp path WinRAR will extract to that dir, even if it resides on a different partition/drive. Instead just leave the field empty and an archive's own dir will be used for its temp files. If you exit the program normally it should clean up all the temp files and not leave anything behind.

So I was extracting something to my D drive when winrar notified me that my disk was full i checked my D disk drive and I still have 461 Gb available but my C drive was full why is my C drive filling up when im extracting it to the D drive.

In this case winrar didn't add the Root folder, but it also didn't add any other folders, and instead of folder tree I've got a bunch of unstructured files. Is there any way of adding the folder structure, ignoring the Root?

i tried deleting C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Temp but nothing changed.

i tried checking if for some reason i had a Silent Hunter 5 in the Silent Hunter 5 folder but no, only one folder and consistent dimension (8gb)

i tried running ccleaner but it found nothing (for both 7zip and winrar).

sorry for being a necro just figured id add some info here for others looking i had the same problem just with winrar and i did a search for the 7.5gb file but couldnt find it but found it in " C:\Users......\AppData\Local\Temp " then in there, there was a folder named Rar$DR95.720 thats were my faild extraction was then in another folder called 7zE497D6645 that had some files that i had extracted and failed along time ago and forgot about, now what confuses me is why doesnt search, search there i have it set to search hidden files and folders and system files but whatever problem fixed hopefully this helps somebody

@gypsygeee I make back-up copies of my Mods folders for both Sims 3 and Sims 4 and store them in a safe place on an external drive (just in case anything bad was to happen to my game folders) and I delete any compressed files I've downloaded from various CC/Mods sites. All of their content is in the Mods folders so the compressed files would basically just be duplicates to my back-up.

When you try to launch a game instead of the game opening either

A: The file opens in the default program instead (for me it was winrar)

B: The emulator launches and for me gives an "Uncorrectable data at sector 0" error sending me to the Saturn dashboard. Instead of unzipping the rom to the temp folder to launch as it's supposed to, it unzips in the rom parent directory (and leaves a mess)!

I feel like there might be a mix here too though. why did the unzip extract directory change based on lack of emulator or specific retroarch core?

Also, if LB unzipped a rom, shouldn't it do a files present success check prior to launching the rom? (in case of corrupt file, full drive, etc).

This is a strange one. Basically, when I try to extract the content of a zip file using Windows Explorer (Win 7) to a mapped network drive, I only get one file (after several seconds). If I use WinRAR, everything is fine.

I'm not sure if this pertains to your issue, but I've encountered a similar issue when using Windows Explorer to copy the contents of a Zip file to a network share (*without* using WinZip to open the Zip file). Found a M$-suggested workaround: disable SMBv2 and restart. This resolves the issue, but M$ recommends against permanently disabling SMB2, and I can't expect my users to go through the dance of disabling SMB2, restarting, copying the files, re-enabling SMB2 and restarting just to copy some files. Anyone have any better ideas for solving this problem?

I just came across this and I know that this is an old thread, but I am having the same issue. I did find that if I extract the files to the local system first, then copy the files over to the network share I did not have any issues. I still have not found an actual resolution to extract multiple files directly to the shared drive, other than this work around.

I'm not even sure if this is possible to get around but every time but when i try and extract a 4gb file using winrar to my D:drive, it creates a temporary file in c:\documents and settings. If i don't have a spare 4gb in my c: the operation aborts and fails. I can see the usage of this on a removable drive but not when i have all files on the same partition.Without manualy changing the "temp file folder" to the same drive as the destination, is there a way to get winrar to automatically use the same drive as the destination for creating its temp file?

As per me, WinRar and WinZip will create a temporary folder on C by default. But you can even change the location of temporary files in Options/Settings/Paths provide what you need.
