You could pre-cut all the white seams off the paper (#tedious), but often this is no help anyway, because this type of wallpaper is generally also printed with an overlap. In other words, you have to overlap the two pieces in order to match the pattern correctly.

Being able to easily reposition your paper will save you from ending up in foetal position in the corner at the end of this experience, rocking and muttering as you stare at the bubbling, crooked wallpaper that is now affixed to your walls for all of eternity.

Use a drop sheet to protect your carpet, but seriously, if it splatters a bit, who cares. Keep a box of baby wipes handy and wipe it off before it dries. If you miss a spot, no biggie, it dries clear anyway.

I tried various implements in my quest for wallpaper smoothness, and the wallpaper brush did not even rate. A clean, dry foam roller was really good. You can use a fair bit of pressure without damaging the paper. Hands were just as good (as long as you keep them clean.)

Find the outermost corner of the powerpoint with your finger, then make a diagonal cut straight across the wall socket from one corner to the other. Do the same on the other side to make a cross. Then you can peel back the four points and use your plastic ruler straight edge and blade to trim the paper around the wall socket.

My trick for getting wallpaper to line up is to go from the seams and work down and out. The paste allows you to move it quite a bit before it dries. I can slide it around pretty easily until I get the seams lined up perfectly! I mainly use my hands to smooth it out and then will use a wallpaper brush to really get a firm adhesion.

You can go classic and simple like in the bedroom above. A round mirror is also an easy way to shake up the shapes you might have in your space. If you got a lot of rectangles, get a circle in there:)

But you can also have fun with it and do something like Justina did in her old bathroom. She already had a ton of pattern with her wallpaper and tile, so to let those be the star (but still keep it Jungalow), she added in those very cool differently shaped mirrors. So creative, unexpected, and totally balanced.

I like to keep the frame simple. Often a sleek, modern frame will work best. A more ornate design adds another element to what may already be a busy space. (Minted now offers extra thin, matte speciality frames and non reflective UV plexiglass options.)

Your foyer looks great!! I love how it ties into your office. That is a struggle for me. (Tying rooms together) I have number 2 in Black with white matte and frame in my bathroom against a thick stripe wallpaper. Love this post and so glad I might be on the right track!

The first thing we did was actually about a month ago. We removed the old closet system, patched the holes, and primed the entire closet. You want the paint to fully cure before you apply the peel and stick wallpaper or else it might not adhere correctly. We also removed the doors, which is an absolute must when working in tight quarters!

We started on the left side of the closet, worked our way right, and then did the sides. So the first step was to measure out from the left corner 20.5 inches (the width of the wallpaper). I then used a long level to draw a straight line the entire length of the wall. This was the guide for our first strip, so it needed to be perfectly straight.

There were a couple of areas where we ran out of wallpaper before we got to the bottom of the wall. In those instances, we opened a new roll and matched the pattern on the bottom of the strip, as well as to the left piece. We would cut the new piece and then place it a couple of inches underneath the bottom of the top piece.

When we got to the right side, we ended up curving the peel and stick wallpaper into the corner instead of cutting it. This made the corner disappear, creating a seamless look. We then started the next piece on the right wall following the pattern of the one to the left. On the left side wall, we ended up overlapping the pattern a bit with the back wall to ensure that no white wall showed through in the corner.

It took us about three hours to finish up this closet, but we were having a blast catching up and drinking wine while we worked (plus, we took a break for some dinner in there too). I think next time we do this project, we can get it done a bit faster!

If you want to do a larger install rather than just a single piece, I like to shop for wallpaper rolls at Graham & Brown. Sherwin Williams has some nice contemporary collections, too. Or if you see a pattern you love while flipping through your favorite shelter magazine, definitely check Decorators Best for the best prices on high end papers.

Hi Grace,

I love the ideas for wall paper panels on your site. I especially love the pattern which is your back ground! It is one of the prettiest I have seen and I have seen a lot of patterns at this point! Would you be willing to share the name/manufacture?

Of course I also had to engineer a way to get these large pieces of wood up on the wall. In the end I came up with three different options for using this type of mural style wallpaper to create DIY large wall art pieces for a lot less money than you would normally spend for wall art of this size.

I personally am always on the hunt for large pieces of art myself as I live in a pretty old house with really high ceilings. Our walls would just look bare if we hung standard sizes of art everywhere.

I found several large pieces of thin plywood and particle board from various old pieces of furniture I no longer own and I also found some lovely thick pallet boards that I wanted to have a play with as well.

If you live in a rental property and you have a bit more budget but the issue is what you are allowed to change in your home, you could consider hanging several wallpaper mural panels on wood side by side to completely change the look of your room while not damaging the walls (plus you can take the panels with you when you move!).

The first method I tried was to use my jigsaw to cut down some pallets into small lengths and use wood glue to attach them around the edge of a large piece of plywood leftover from an old piece of furniture.

I took a long thin piece of plywood (I think it was from the back of a wardrobe or something like that) and used two pieces of broken cot bed slats to create a hanging at the top and a stabiliser sort of a piece at the bottom. The photo above was me laying them out before I cut the ragged ends off of the broken slats.

If you feel confident cutting your wood down to size if you accidentally order it too small I think I would probably advise you to order the exact size you want and trim your wood rather than having to trim the paper.

Nobody likes them, but even with the greatest care, they are inevitable: damages of all shapes and sizes, of many different types and to various extents. It's just in the nature of things that the wall with damaged wallpapers will almost always be in full view. It seems that our eyes are magically drawn to the damaged area. It soon becomes a source of irritation and will annoy us constantly.

Repairing the damage can be quite a challenge, especially with patterned or motif wallpapers, or those with a high-quality structure or special surface. But fear not: with our useful hints and tips, you'll be on top of the situation in no time. With a bit of skill and patience, many issues can be solved quite easily. Having said that, more significant types of damage sometimes simply cannot be repaired - but there are a few tricks that will conceal the problem.

Accidents will happen, and so it is inevitable that the odd sharp object will fly through the air, land on the wallpaper and take a small piece of it with it. Moving furniture, day-to-day housework or putting nails and screw into walls can also have a negative effect on walls and wallpaper. And if your beloved pet decides to sharpen its claws on the wall, it's not only time to fix the damage but also to tackle the reasons (see: The cat's (or dog's) whiskers! Which wallpapers are suitable for pet owners?).

Children often play in lounges and kitchens, and this can lead to unwanted marks on wallpaper, too. This is completely normal, and there are solutions for most problems - and if there aren't, there are some tricks that can help cover up any damages - and there's always the thought of a new wallpaper to make you feel better! It's certainly something to look forward to...

You are probably aware that it is always a good idea to order a bit more of your chosen wallpaper - an extra roll (or better yet, two) will come in handy if you need to do some repairs. Once the wallpaper paste has been mixed, it can only be used for a certain amount of time - and if you need it for repairs months or even years later, it certainly isn't usable any longer. Ready-mixed repair adhesive is available in DIY shops in tubes, or as a liquid concentrate made especially for those cases. Depending on wallpaper characteristics, you can choose between different types of adhesive. If you need to replace entire lengths/strips of wallpaper, you should mix a new packet of wallpaper paste. 152ee80cbc
