At the Vienna show on the Post Traumatic Tour, Mike said, "We were listening to the album version of this next song before the show and as we were listening to it we were kind of singing along a little bit and I was just really just enjoying the sound of Chester's voice on it. It's just so good. And I remember - this is actually the song, the way we do it here is a mashup so it's two different songs - but the first thing you'll hear is the Linkin Park song, and I remember what happened was when we were working on the song that this part that we play here was the track. Like 'That's what this song is missing!' And that's the beauty of when you're working with other friends, when you're working with other writers, other people who make music who come with something special and something magical. It wasn't even in the way necessarily that he sang it. Was just the idea of it. It was just so pure and so great."[9]

On September 14, 2020 while listening to the album on his stream, Mike said: ""Waiting For The End" had its issues too... I knew that it was good, and I was intimidated by diving into it and I didn't want to screw it up. I remember having the beat and most of the sounds and rapping over that, which became the bridge. I kept waiting for certain things, something to pop up that I could stick in the song and jump off of that point. And then Chester brought in the 'Waiting for the end' vocal line and then I was like, 'Yo, now that is the song.' But it wasn't pulling our hair out trying to get it right, that was really being patient for the right pieces to come together."[12]

In celebration of the North American Tour 2011, Linkin Park asked fans to film with camera or phone their performances of "Waiting For The End" at their January 26th show in Chicago and their January 28th show in St. Paul. Starting at 12:00 noon on January 27, fans could upload their videos to the band's official website. The deadline being January 29. When i first heard this song... i was feeling all of this... in a relationship that was ending.. funny thing, the whole 5 mo. of the relationship, i was 'waiting for the end', knowing it was coming although i was sooo in love... all along i was holding on to what i didn't have...however... this song helped me get through it... damn, the whole cd got me through it... listed to it 3=4 times a day.... ty for this interpretation....

i agree with everyones concept on this song. but i think you guys are thinking to small. i read an article about linkin parks new album having references to 2012 and the apocalypic destruction of our planet. "reviewrinserepeat.com/artist/linkin-park/album/a-thousand-suns/review" thats the article there in the quotes. i think this song is talking about the upcomming doomsday as not the end or the beginning. after this destruction we will be living in pain and fear, pain from the great losses we all will experience and fear from fear of the unknown. no one knows what its like to live without our technologies and gizmos and such. we are too attached. "What was left when that fire was gone I thought it felt right but that right was wrong All caught up in the eye of the storm And trying to figure out what it's like moving on" the word fire can easily stand for the destruction. fire is a destructive force. later they mention picking up the pieces, the remnants of the chaos and destruction. needing to find a way to move on from "the end" which is the hardest part. starting our civilization over again.

imo this song is about an inner struggle, like when they say "We say yeah with fists flying up in the air", i think "air" is the fight in his mind, "What was left when that fire was gone,", its like a fight between good and evil, or between two universal forces, I felt that while viewing the video, you know the blue and red, or maybe its the other way around "I thought it felt right but that right was wrong"... When the "fight" ends,("It's hard to let you go") he was holding to something "i haven't got", he is "picking up the pieces, now where to begin ,The hardest part of ending is starting again..." moving on ...waiting for the end to come, because "this" was never meant to last".its the end of a cycle, the end is the beggining.

The "fire" here is good, its like in the "resistance" from muse "let our hearts ignite"-"it could be wrong, it could be wrong...but i should had been right"... "must erase it fast"- "Until we dead it, forget it let it all disappear". we are the resistance lol. does this make any sense to you?lol

To me this song is about two people that met and accidentally fell in love. They know they are deeply in love with each other but the other chooses not to be because of reasons that may be from fear of commitment, fear of life changes( other person has children but divorced),fear of falling in love or fear of actually being in love...etc. Because of this the other person is still in love but cannot let go of what has become. Therefore he is "Waiting for the End" of his love for her. "Wish I had the strength to stand" He is weak from being heart broken for a long time. "This is not what I had planned.Its out of my control" He always had good intentions with her and never intended to fall in love with her, but did.

For me this song is about my marriage that is coming to an end. I love my wife dearly but fear she doesn't feel the same. I'm struggling with my emotions but don't want her to stay in an unhappy relationship. I'm literally just waiting for the end to come and wish I had the strength to let her go first. I'm realizing she doesn't love me but the struggle of what to do and how to move on haunts me!!!

To me, it is about waiting for a good end to come after a fall out or trying to get over a tough time - whatever that maybe. And you feel so trapped and that you can't move and you just want to "trade this life for something new".
