In order to tie in the lunar eclipse on June 26, 2010, Summit Entertainment hosted screenings of the first two films in The Twilight Saga film series in twelve cities throughout the United States. The event was streamed live from Philadelphia and San Diego, and included cast member appearances and special previews of Eclipse.[60]

The Hollywood Reporter said the film "nails it".[91] Peter Debruge of Variety said that the film "finally feels more like the blockbuster this top-earning franchise deserves".[92] Rick Bentley of McClatchy Newspapers said the film was the best in The Twilight Saga so far, suggesting that, "The person who should be worried is Bill Condon, the director tapped for the two-part finale, Breaking Dawn. He's got a real challenge to make movies as good as Eclipse."[93] The New York Times praised David Slade's ability to make an entertaining film, calling it funny and better than its predecessors, but wrote that the acting has not improved much.[94] Giving the film 4.5 out of 5 stars, Betsey Sharkey from the Los Angeles Times praised David Slade's method of blending his previous works to form a funny movie. She stated, "Eclipse eclipse[s] its predecessors."[95] The film was also listed in 49th place by Moviefone on its list of the 50 best movies of 2010.[96]

Eclipse was the first of the three varieties from these crosses to move from the test fields to final selection. Its name was changed from ORUS 2816-4 to Eclipse to commemorate the total solar eclipse visible in Corvallis in 2017.

On April 8, a 100-mile-wide shadow will race toward the Pacific coast of Mexico, just below the tip of Baja California, at the speed of sound. For those living on the North American continent, this will mark the beginning of a highly anticipated celestial spectacle: the total solar eclipse of 2024.

While solar eclipses happen two to three times each year, not all of them are total, and few occur in areas with densely populated swaths of land, which makes the upcoming eclipse particularly special. For those in North America, the next total solar eclipse won't happen for another 20 years.

Solar eclipses happen when the moon moves into the line of sight between the Earth and the sun. A crucial ingredient in the magic that makes for a total solar eclipse is a whim of nature: The relative size of the moon's disc exactly matches that of the sun when viewed from Earth. If it wasn't for this cosmic coincidence, solar eclipses would not nearly be as awe-inspiring as they are when viewed in the path of totality.

Reddy says that even with today's technology, there still is something special about witnessing a total solar eclipse that can't be accomplished otherwise. Typically, researchers who study the sun have to suppress its intense brightness using a device known as a coronagraph if they want to detect our star's more tenuous features, such as the sun's corona, which can be thought of as the outermost wisps of the sun's atmosphere, which is called the chromosphere.

"The chromosphere is a different layer about 250 to 1,250 miles above the photosphere. It's extremely difficult to photograph because it's hidden in the bright sunlight," Reddy said. "The only time it appears is during a total solar eclipse. During those 4 minutes and 28 seconds, nature provides us with a coronagraph that allows us to see features that aren't normally visible."

Those planning to travel into the path of totality will need proper eye protection from the time the eclipse begins until it reaches the stage referred to as the "diamond effect." This visually stunning phenomenon occurs in the last few seconds before the moon's disc covers the entire sun. At that time, the sunlight shines through crater valleys and troughs of the lunar horizon, resulting in what looks like a brilliant ring studded with diamonds. The same effect will appear just after totality, as the moon's disc slips across the sun, this time lighting up "diamonds" on the opposite side

"Many of us don't really think much about the sun on any given day beyond trying to not get sunburnt," Reddy said. "A solar eclipse is a way to get millions of people interested in our very own star. It is our way to get people to focus on science, and it's also the first total eclipse since the COVID pandemic."

Spacecraft such as the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, a joint mission between NASA and the European Space Agency, observe the sun with spectacular detail. A t the same time, there is a huge potential for using the eclipse to collect new datasets, Reddy says.

"For example, if you have an instrument that's too large to go on a spacecraft, or if you want to try out new technology that isn't mature yet to be put on a spacecraft, you can use ground observations to study the sun in a new way, and solar eclipses offer great opportunities to do that," he says.

"It's the next best way to see the event for those of us who can't go to the path of totality," said Nick Letson, Flandrau's marketing and communications manager. "We invite the community to experience the solar eclipse right here, where they can get excited about the event and learn about the mechanics behind it at the same time."

Those willing to stay up late will be treated to another celestial event: a penumbral lunar eclipse, which is when the full moon dips into the Earth's shadow. Visible from Southern Arizona, the eclipse will peak around 1:12 a.m. Tucson time on March 25.

So i re-read eclipse today, and realised it's not my favourite book but it is deffintly amazing......... when i read eclipse for the first time, i thought it would be alot more violent, i thought wrong. Although it is pretty violent, i mean its not every day you read about vampires killing new born vampires :P. My favourite bit in eclipse either has to be the bonfire or the fight (obvs).

I think the bonfire bit is just emotional especially when you read about the 3rd wife story, thats quite emotional but for anyone to do such a thing it's extremely brave :). I think when you read about the bonfire you get a sense of why the wolf ppack is there, why it's called for and neccessary for their excistence. I love how emily (sams soon to be wife) is so interested and fastinated in the stories as anyone would be i can imagine. In eclipse we finally meet leah and seth, although they have been mentioned we finally meet them :)

The fighting scene in eclipse may not be obviouse to what i'm talking about, when is say fighting i'm regarding the chapters which insist on the cullens and the wolves join forces to take on the newborns. In this we meet bree and riley which are the two newborns mentioned. Riley has been tricked by victoria, her claiming she loves him when the only person she has or ever will love is james. But riley doesnt know this. Riley is later killed by seth, the new wolf. Seth gets along with edward and they dont mind being called friends. Seth is fond of edward, but obviously thats because he isnt jake and seth knows they can't do no harm. Edward is also very fond of seth quoting "He has one of the purest, sincerest, kindest minds I've ever heard. You're lucky to share his thoughts." which is what edward said about seth to jacob. I think only in breaking dawn does jacob kinda see that seths not annoying and in a way he kinda needs him, which is sweet seth looks up to jacob and idolizes his every word. Soooooooooooooooo thats is it for todays blog, so come back tommorrow xxx

The tour cost includes: 3 nights' accommodation, daily breakfast during the tour, transportation to/from our reserved observing site (located < 20 miles from the eclipse centerline), a celebration banquet following the eclipse event, and Twilight Tours' expert logistical/technical guidance and support that have been a hallmark of our trips for 37 years.

If you plan to be anywhere from the southern third of Africa, to southern and eastern India, southeastern China, Southeast Asia, and virtually all of Australia on Monday, January 26, you will be treated to a view of a solar eclipse.

This will be an annular or ring eclipse of the sun, so called because the moon's disk will appear too small to completely cover the sun's disk. This circumstance is due to the fact that the moon will be a bit farther from Earth than average.

An annular eclipse, though a rare and amazing sight, is far different from a total solar eclipse. Since the sun's brilliant surface or photosphere never completely disappears, the panoply of striking phenomena seen during a total eclipse such as the corona and prominences and the dramatic darkening of the sky accompanied by some of the brighter stars and planets, will not be seen.

From here, the path of the annular eclipse curves east-southeast, completely missing southernmost Africa. As seen from Cape Agulhas, the geographic southern tip of the African continent, the moon will appear to cover 74 percent of the sun's diameter as the antumbra passes a few hundred miles to the south.

Unfortunately, virtually the entire annularity track falls over open waters, sliding first over the South Atlantic, and then tracking east, then northeast over the Indian Ocean. The eclipse reaches its maximum at local apparent noon, pretty much over the middle of the Indian Ocean. A shipboard observer would see the moon's dark outline wholly inside the sun for 7 minutes and 54 seconds, changing the sun into a "ring of fire."

Outside the path of annularity, a partial eclipse will be visible. The closer you are to the annular track, the larger the "bite" that the passing moon will appear to take out of the sun. In Australia, the eclipse falls on Australia Day; a National holiday. Much of that country (except Tasmania) will get a glimpse of the eclipse coinciding (or nearly so) with local sunset.

By far, the safest way to view a solar eclipse is to construct a "pinhole camera." A pinhole or small opening is used to form an image of the sun on a screen placed about three feet behind the opening. Binoculars or a small telescope mounted on a tripod can also be used to project a magnified image of the sun onto a white card. Just be sure not to look through the binoculars or telescope when they are pointed toward the sun! 0852c4b9a8
