I've heard cases of kpop songs that are really popular internationally, but not so much in Korea. So, I was wondering of cases that are the opposite; songs that are really popular in Korea, but no internationally.

We wanted to learn more about the history of non-English music in the United States, so we decided to take a look at the songs that made it to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Since mid-1958, Billboard has been the foremost resource for tracking singles in the United States. This gives us over 60 years to work with, and over 1,000 number-one hits. Despite that, only eight foreign-language songs managed to make it to the top of the list. Here, we look at each of them. Scroll to the bottom to listen to our playlist of all the songs, and read on to find out the stories behind them.

International applicants are expected to follow the same application procedure that domestic applicants follow. There is no special international application for admission; however, international applicants are required to submit a few extra items that are not required from domestic applicants. Additionally, the academic review process for international applicants can be time consuming; thus international applicants are encouraged to submit official transcripts and test scores by the published application deadlines. Failure to do so could cause the entire application to be withdrawn from consideration.

After consolidating her initial commercial success with the albums Umpatampa (1994) and Maganuna (1996), she was selected in 1998 to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Diva". Placing first at the international competition, she came to public attention throughout Europe.

Dana was chosen to represent Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 1998 in Birmingham with the song "Diva". Orthodox Jews and others with conservative views were opposed to the choice and attempted to void her participation in the contest. In May 1998, Dana performed "Diva" at the Eurovision final and won the contest with 172 points. She became known internationally, and was interviewed by CNN, BBC, Sky News, and MTV among others mostly focusing on her life as a transsexual person before winning the contest. Dana's own words "the message of reconciliation" were; "My victory proves God is on my side. I want to send my critics a message of forgiveness and say to them: try to accept me and the kind of life I lead. I am what I am and this does not mean I don't believe in God, and I am part of the Jewish Nation."[11]

Dana was about to sign with a major label, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, for an international recording contract. There were disagreements that led to Sony Music cancelling the deal before it was completed.

A few years later, in 2005, Dana participated in the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Copenhagen, after "Diva" was selected as one of fourteen songs considered to be the best Eurovision songs. The song did not make it into the final top five. Dana got the chance to perform both "Diva" and an old Eurovision favourite of hers, Baccara's 1978 entry "Parlez-Vous Franais?". She also recorded the song "Lola" (sung in French), to which she released a video. This video can be found on the CD Hakol Ze Letova, released in 2007 as a bonus CD-rom video.

I am half Japanese, so I know and discover more Japanese artists and songs every year. But when I search for the song/album/artist in the U.S. iTunes store, it gives me these lame (and sometimes not even the actual song, or like, covers or music box versions of the song) excuses for what I was searching for. Or it lists some of their albums but not all... It really makes me mad! Because I feel like iTunes should have like, every song and artist listed no matter which region or country you are using the iTunes store through so that everyone can get whatever they want.

I also tried switching regions/countries to see if that was my problem. I was hoping I could easy-breazy switch so that I could buy the songs on the Japanese iTunes site, but I guess not. It said I had to use up my whole balance first.... I have like less than 50cents left, I cannot buy anything with that...! So does this mean I can't ever switch regions unless I figure out a way to methodically get it down to perfectly $0....? ***

This course focuses on comparing and contrasting the licensing frameworks in the United States and European communities, paying special attention to the monetization of new licensing opportunities in media vehicles such as gaming, film, television, and the internet. Financial analysis and valuation of properties will be addressed through music industry case studies as used by business professionals in the international publishing corporations. In the first few weeks, students acquire a thorough understanding of the structure of the global music publishing industry, including its history, function, laws, and an overview of the financial income streams. In the following weeks, students unravel research subjects, analyze companies, acquire a song catalogue, and find ways to exploit and market their catalogue. The goal is to give students the competencies to work as a Music Supervisor at a film or television studio, an international music publishing company, or to start their own company. Note: Students in this class may have the option of visiting Inholland University in Haarlem, Netherlands for a week during the semester, as part of the student exchange program with Inholland students who are also studying international music licensing. This trip is not a requirement of the class. The cost of this trip is approximately $1,500. 2351a5e196
