Suryakanth's younger brother Ramakanth is a fanboy of Silk and starts to befriend her. Silk develops a liking for him after she realizes that he is the first man who loves her for more than just her body and sex appeal. Silk visits her hometown with Ramakanth and is happy to see the crowd gathering around to see her, but is left heartbroken as her mother slams the door on her face. At an awards ceremony Silk is praised for her performance but is insulted by Suryakanth who tells her that she is nothing more than everyone's "dirty secret". Hurt by his remarks, Silk announces that she will continue to make her "dirty pictures" and that she has no qualms about doing so. She begins to spend more time with Ramakanth and becomes the focus of tabloid gossip after noted journalist Naila criticizes Silk for having a romantic relationship with both brothers. To avoid a scandal and also to get revenge, Suryakanth drops Silk from his forthcoming films, forcing her to work with smaller, unknown filmmakers. She loses interest in her work and begins to feel threatened by a younger aspiring actress, Shakeela. During a dance challenge, she tries to outshine Shakeela by dancing more and more erotically and finally intentionally trips Shakeela, much to the embarrassment of Ramakanth who had been planning to introduce Silk to his parents as a prospective bride. Ramakanth then decides to end their relationship. Silk says she has no shame about what she is, and drives away Ramakanth. Silk also walks out from a film set when the director calls her out for being inattentive at the shoot. The film transitions 2 months after the incident. To ease her heartbreak and the rejection from her mother, Silk, who had already been into drinking and smoking, goes full-fledged turns to alcohol and chain smoking. She shows symptoms of depression. She also gains weight, causing her to lose her status as a sex symbol. Silk approaches Selva Ganesh with an offer to produce a film together. Ultimately, the audience and industry lost interest in her, and the film fails. On the other hand, Abraham directs a film starring himself, containing commercial eroticism and that turns out to be a huge hit. He feels that he has finally proven to Silk (and himself) that he has defeated Silk. But Abraham takes a liking towards Silk even though he claims that he hate her. Having lost her fame and fortune, Silk has accumulated so much debt that she approaches a small-time filmmaker, willing to take on any role. She is shocked to find that he wants her to do a pornographic film, and she refuses. He intoxicates her with alcohol and starts filming, without her permission. The place is raided by the police but Silk manages to escape. She has several visions of her past and encounters Rathnamma's shop on the way and tries to hide from being seen by her. Completely heartbroken and inundated with substance abuse, she reaches her house and cries bitterly.

Ekta Kapoor launched the film with director Milan Luthria soon after their collaboration Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai became a hit.[13] She said that The Dirty Picture is my picture it shows how life had been to mewould be India's answer to the Academy Award-nominated film Boogie Nights.[14] Later in a press conference, Kapoor clarified that neither of Balaji's forthcoming films, Ragini MMS nor The Dirty Picture, were "porn films" as they had been made out to be.[15]

"Dirty Picture" is a song by British R&B singer Taio Cruz, which features vocals from American singer Kesha and was released from his second studio album, Rokstarr (2009). The song was written and produced by Cruz alongside Fraser T Smith, and later released as the album's third single on 5 April 2010. Originally, Cruz wanted the female vocals to be done by Lady Gaga but opted to switch to Kesha due to heavy influence by Dr. Luke and for finding her voice unique. The song was later re-recorded as an album bonus track for Kesha's debut album, Animal (2010), and dubbed the "Kesha edit" or "Dirty Picture Pt. 2". Lyrically, the song is about sending a dirty picture to a significant other whom you miss.

"Dirty Picture" is song composed in the dance genre, that encompasses a techno beat infused in its backing, as well as synthesizers.[4] The song features auto-tuned vocals by Kesha.[4][5] According to Robert Cospey of Digital Spy, the song's chorus contains "trancey" elements and is reminiscent of Benny Benassi's song, "Satisfaction".[6] Lyrically, Cruz explained the song's message saying, "the song is actually about sending sexy pictures to your significant other, if you miss each other and you can't see each other, you're far away from each other, you send pictures to remind each other of how sexy you are."[7] According to sheet music published at Musicnotes.com by EMI Music Publishing, "Dirty Picture" is written in the time signature of common time, with a moderate beat rate of 125 beats per minute. The song is written in the key of F minor; Cruz' vocal range spans from the note of Eb4 to the note of F5.[8]

The Guardian's Caroline Sullivan first criticized Cruz for his evident "facelessness" in his music while reviewing his album; she, however, wrote that the song "saves the day" and wrote that it exemplified "British humour by impersonating a camera ('Snap, snap, click!')."[12] Sara Anderson from AOL Radio was positive in her review of the song. Anderson wrote, "Building from strobing, techno back beats, Taio melodically, and bluntly, asks his muse to take a few, er, risque pictures for him, before transitioning into speaking voice with the help of party queen Kesha."[4] David Jeffries of AllMusic listed the song as one of the album's three best tracks, alongside "Break Your Heart" and "Take You Back."[13] Melanie Bertoldi of Billboard praised Cruz' vocal delivery, calling it the "most impressive" on the album.[5]

The video opens with Cruz driving a car speeding through the desert. It then cuts to a new scene where Cruz is at a house party where everyone is drinking and sending dirty text messages. Throughout the scenes Cruz is seen taking pictures with different women and singing karaoke. Kesha's vocals cut in and she is seen standing in a bathroom stall standing on top of a toilet "asking that her man do the same [and send a dirty picture]."[3] Once again the video then cuts to scenes of Cruz standing next to his car in the desert singing his verses. The video then cuts back to the party where all of the party goers are seen "sexting, kissing, touching and bumping and grinding as the flashes flash."[3] Kesha's vocals once again cut in and this time she is seen laying on top of the bathroom sink singing her verses. The video ends with Cruz and Kesha standing next to each other telling their loved ones to "click, click, snap" that dirty picture their way.[3]

A film producer, desperately seeking a hit, sees a starlet in the small time but sexy and extremely ambitious girl Reshma. He immediately rechristens her as Silk. She instantaneously renames him askeeda (worm) justifying that keede hi toh banate hain silk (worms produce silk). That smart and symbolic line pretty much sums up the bigger picture behind the dirty picture.
