Whatever font I choose on Firefox, it keeps using Nimbus Sans only for some websites like Facebook, Twitter, etc. This what it looks like on a post from Facebook. I already selected Liberation font but it keeps using Nimbus font. This is my font preferences and inspecting an element on the page shows Nimbus font is selected. I tried Firefox on Windows and it uses the one I chose on font preferences. So problem is within Arch Linux. Not sure how to fix it.

It is a family supporting Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, CJK ideographic, Japanese kana, Korean Hangul syllables, Thai characters. The family includes 5 fonts in 1 (medium) width, with 4 proportional and 1 monospaced fonts. The proportional fonts are in 4 weights (bold, medium, regular, light), while the monospace font is in medium weight.

Nimbus Sans L is a version of Nimbus Sans using Adobe font sources. It was designed in 1987. The family includes 17 fonts in 5 weights and 2 widths, with Nimbus Sans L Extra Black only available in condensed roman format.

A subset of Nimbus Sans L, which includes regular and bold weight fonts in all widths and styles, were released under the GPL and AFPL in Type 1 format in 1996[1][2][3][4][5][6] and LPPL in 2009,[7] and is one of several freely licensed fonts offered by URW++.

Although the characters are not exactly the same, Nimbus Sans L has metrics almost identical to Helvetica and Arial. Nimbus Sans L is one of the Ghostscript fonts, a set of free alternatives to the 35 basic PostScript fonts (which include Helvetica).[8][9][10][11]

It is a standard typeface in many Linux distributions.[12] It was used as default font in OpenOffice.org Calc and Impress in some Linux distributions (e.g. Ubuntu - up to version 8.10; since Ubuntu 9.04 the default font was changed to Liberation Sans).

While the design of the characters is based on Neue Helvetica, the two typefaces differ metrically: Nimbus Sans Novus has smaller x-height and is narrower at the same font size (but not at the same x-height).

I just can't understand how an API can be so messy. If a method is calledsetFont(..) then I expect it to set the font. If this method fails toset the font in any thinkable circumstances, then it should be deprecated.

One thing that amazes me to this day is that the LaF setters [setFont, setBackground, etc] do not actually set real properties. The spec says that LaFs are allowed to ignore user set fonts, colors, etc. This is why GTKLaF is completely broken. It uses the system gtk theme settings, not the programmer's settings. IIRC Nimbus has a separate, package private class that contains defaults (NimbusDefaults?) and can't be easily accessed.

We'll supply a kit containing webfonts that can be used within digital ads, such as banner ads. This kit may be shared with third parties who are working on your behalf to produce the ad creatives, however you are wholly responsible for it.

Webfonts can be used on a single domain. Agencies responsible for multiple websites, for example web design agencies or hosting providers, may not share a single webfont license across multiple websites.

Every time the webpage using the webfont kit is loaded (i.e, the webfont kit CSS which holds the @font-face rule is called) the counting system counts a single pageview for each webfont within the webfont kit.

An Electronic Doc license is based on the number of publications in which the font is used. Each issue counts as a separate publication. Regional or format variations don't count as separate publications.

1. Are you using any autocomplete / autotext add-ons / plugins / shortcuts / keyboard layouts with either FF or system wide that would become active for Nimbus Sans L and not any other font face (at least FreeSans)? The fact that ligatures are not displayed with Nimbus while abbrevs are turned into symbols (as opposed to FreeSans) may indicate this. (Nimbus T1 has ligatures coded into as far as I can tell.) As the problem doesn't seem to occur with other applications (you mentioned LibreOffice behaving properly), try temporarily renaming .mozilla directory into .mozilla.bkp and see if FF with a clean profile acts differently. (Some desktop environments can automatically switch to a different keyboard layout for a particular application, so before proceding make sure nothing like that happens in your case.)

2. The problem may be related only to PostScript fonts and not to TTF/OTF ones in general. In such a case, fontconfig may be responsible for things to act this way. A bit rough way to check if this is the case: temporarily rename /etc/fonts/conf.d into /etc/fonts/conf.d.bkp and check if anything has changed. However, I'm not quite sure which sort of fontconfig settings could be involved. Going even further you may try reinstalling both fontconfig and psfonts in case there is really something wrong with any of them.

A few months ago, I was researching why Type 1 fonts from gsfonts weren't available in my applications. I used this trick to make a custom PKGBUILD of gsfonts that creates copies of the Type 1 fonts in TTF format using a small fontforge script. Since doing this, I could use the Type 1 fonts but they were actually TTF, and I they were possibly broken because I have shallow technical knowledge of what I was doing.

One last clarification before closing: I know that LibreOffice has it's own font rendering engine. This may explain the different behavior. When I tried writing in Nimbus Sans L in Inkscape, I saw the same thing as in Firefox. But I'd rather not have the font than use a broken one.

Hello, i have this font in my system and could not find what package it originates from, i suspect this is gsfonts package, but i can't remove it because it required by evince.

I have this setting in fonts.conf, but it seem not very useful, because that "Nimbus Roman" still shows it presense in various apps.

I'm not convinced that a subscription to Acrobat DC includes access to fonts, as that is not normally needed. You can check that, however, by going to fonts.adobe.com ( -sans), sign in if you aren't, and search for the font you need. If you can install, install.

I created a few brochures for print last year and the headline font was NimbusSansCondensed Bold. I recall (hopefully correctly) that I used typekit for the font. Is it retired - because it is not available anymore? I paid for typekit, used the font and now I have to go buy the font again elsewhere to make edits? Can someone clarify please

I have a subscription Creative Cloud All Apps, Annual plan, paid monthly (ongoing for many years). I use only one apple mac so the work was not generated elsewhere. The fonts in the screengrab above are also available to me but they are very different to the one I used last year. The line lenghts are much longer now. All my documents reflowed when I tried the fonts available on typekit this week. The only solution I could find in time for my deadline was to buy again buy from a supplier and I had to pay another 30 for a license (uk). Here is a screen grab to show the difference between Nimbus Sans Condensed Bold (top row) and Nimbus Sans Cond L (bottom row). They are really different except the names.

I am having the exact same problem. I've been using Nimbus Sans Cond Bold through typekit and realized it doesn't seem available anymore. Now the font on typekit (Nimbus Sans Cond L Bold) looks very different.

I just opened a project in Premiere that I needed to make adjustments to, and I'm having the same issue. The original font was NimbusSansCon Bold. The new one, NimbusSansCond L Bold isn't even close.

EDIT: I've found out that the font is URW Nimbus Roman (thanks for pointing me towards the posts telling me how to figure it out). So my question is how can I get this font? What packages do I have to load etc? Sorry, complete amateur here! Thanks for the help!

XeLaTeX can use any of your system fonts, so if you have the desired font installed, you simply include that in your document as you would any other font. This can even be done on a per-language basis. For example, if you wish to use Angsana New font for Thai language text in your document, you can define it as follows:

A typical desktop font EULA will allow you to install the font on your computer for use with authoring tools including word processors, design tools and other applications that permit font selection. Fonts can also be used for the creation of print documents, static images (JPEG, TIFF, PNG) and logos. The cost of a desktop font license is determined by the number of users who will have access to the font. View the desktop EULA for this family

Webfonts are licensed from Fonts.com for use on websites in accordance with the conditions of the CSS@font face declaration and are supported by all major browsers. When you've used all of your purchased pageviews, you can return to Fonts.com to purchase an incremental web font license to cover your future needs. Pageviews are valid for 1 years. Electronic Doc licensing allows the embedding of fonts in electronic publications, like eBooks, digital magazines and journals. At checkout, just specify the number of issues. Yet if the font is not embedded but used to create a static image, like the cover of an e-book, you will need a separate Desktop font license. Each Electronic Publishing license is valid for one year. This also covers format variations, and updated versions of publications that are issued free to already existing readers. However every new issue of an e-periodical is considered a separate, new publication, as are newly issued versions of existing publications. Learn more about licenses for Electronic Doc
