(Feb 2017) I recently converted 254 Yamaha song styles from 4 variations to 2 variations for a friend who still uses a PSR8000. These might be of use to members who use some of the more recent keyboards that still use 2 variation styles. Click on 2 Part styles.zip to download this collection.

January 29, 1998 -- The PSR8000 is the new flagship of Yamaha's Portable Keyboard line to be introduced at the Winter NAMM (98 Session in Los Angeles. "Incredible power and innovation best describes this keyboard," states Jim Presley, marketing manager, Portable Keyboard Department, Pro Audio & Combo Division, Yamaha Corporation of America. The PSR8000 is a 61 key, touch sensitive, 64 note polyphonic, keyboard using Yamaha's remarkable "XG" MIDI standard. A direct to computer, "To Host" port, and both pitch bend and mod wheels are included. This instrument was designed for the professional, live performance, musician, the serious hobbyist, or anyone who loves to play and sing music. The surprising list of professional features continue with an optional hard drive, SIMMs expandable wave RAM, after touch, multiple pedal control outputs, and a 3.5" HD disk drive with "Style File" and "Disk Orchestra" compatibility (enabling access to a huge library of songs on disk).

Yamaha's XG MIDI format, never before available in a portable keyboard, is backwards-compatible with GM (General MIDI) but adds a super set of voices and controls for audio, effects and more, resulting in unparalleled life-like sound reproduction. The "To Host" port enables the direct connection to the serial port of a PC or Macintosh without the need of a MIDI interface card or box. A simple cable from the keyboard to the serial port is all the hardware needed. This opens a world of music, educational, and creative possibilities to the more than thirty million U.S. households with personal computers. Especially important for laptop users, where the addition of cards may not be an option. Laptop users are becoming a bigger part of the total computer market. Much attention has been paid to ease of use, with a larger, icon-based, backlit display. All user interfaces have been completely redesigned, taking the PSR8000 to a new level of user-friendliness. Yamaha's auto accompaniment is world renowned for its styles being natural, musically correct, and a joy to play. VA (Virtual Arranger), a new innovation from Yamaha, adds more than a simple variation of the style the user plays. It will add riffs, phrases, chord changes, and other embellishments appropriate for that style, making users sound even more professional.

Voice & Style Expansion Packs enable you to customize the PSR with a wide range of additional content from all over the world. When loaded into the keyboard, you can instantly access authentic new sounds, rhythms and backing in the musical style of your choice.

Reggae employs similar instrumentation as pop tunes found in the United States. The instruments that form the foundation of a typical reggae song would be drums, electric bass, electric guitar, and keyboard. However, over the years, other instruments such as horns, brass, and afro-cuban percussion have also been introduced to reggae.

Imagine if there was an app that could take a song you love, analyze the audio and convert it to a chord chart! Now imagine taking that data and sending it wirelessly so that Genos could play the song back in a totally different style of music.

Our favorite song lyrics on relationships, and the love, joy, or pain they cause, might say a lot about our attachment styles. We turn to music to lift our mood, process sadness or anger, feel understood, and cope with difficult emotions. But do our favorite lyrics have a positive or negative impact on our ability to feel more secure in relationships?

A child that experiences inconsistent love and care, or is neglected, emotionally deprived, or abused, has a higher chance of developing an insecure attachment style. There are three types of insecure attachment:

Disorganized: adults with a disorganized attachment style want to be loved and be in a relationship but feel uncomfortable with emotional intimacy. Their behavior tends to fluctuate between seeking closeness but fearing rejection, and therefore distancing themselves. This attachment style often develops as a result of experiencing or witnessing trauma and abuse in childhood.

The research into the relationship between attachment style and song lyrics confirms the important role music plays in our lives. It also shows that being mindful of our song choices can help us to understand ourselves better.

Acting as a secure base for a loved one with an insecure attachment style can help them feel less anxious in general, and also more secure in your presence - strengthening the bond in your relationship.

First of all, if you are not confident nor comfortable with keys, it is important to be aware of these components when you practice keys; being functional, practical, and motivating (Jones, 2016). Functional accompaniments make you engage with clients effectively without any barriers or distraction. Practical accompaniments help you think whatever you provide with the accompaniment is necessary for the client to achieve a goal. If you find yourself making it more challenging than it actually is, do not be afraid of keeping it simple. The last component encourages you to ask questions if whatever song you are attempting to learn on keys is motivating or not. Music therapists regularly take time to practice and use client-preferred music. However, when you start learning a new instrument, it is important to use therapist-preferred music and to keep yourself motivated. Therefore, consider to start learning your favorite music first. As long as you can learn some accompaniment styles in a song, you can use the skill in sessions as well. I believe these components could be beneficial to consider when you practice, especially if you are new to keys.

Think about how your experience with love is relatable. Halle Payne, Singer-Songwriter tells us: "You want your song to be about your own experiences, because that's what makes it personal and interesting. But, at the same time, if you can communicate some feeling in a way that people relate to it, you've got yourself a great love song. You want to ask yourself: 'How do I say something specific about my experience, that will also resonate with others?'"
