Here is an example of what a scholarly database search would look like for the following research question: What impact is global climate changing having on coastal environments in Maryland? Note that the quotation marks tell the database to search those words as a phrase (so we'll find articles that say "global warming" as a phrase, rather than articles that say "global" in one paragraph and "warming" in another, for example).

Peer review is a process that most scholarly articles go through prior to publication. When authors submit their research to an academic journal, that journal's editorial board will send it along to peer reviewers, who are other researchers that are knowledgeable about the topic that the article is about. The reviewers read it and leave comments on the overall quality of the article. Then, the authors will usually have the opportunity to make revisions to the article based on these comments, resubmit, and hopefully get published.

This journal publishes articles and papers that report on and analyze the latest research and innovation in every area of security. The journal also presents reviews of books, videos and security sector reports, opinion essays and expert commentary on important current issues.

Peer-reviewed (or refereed) scholarly articles are based on research. They relate to research studies, methodology and/or theory. They are usually lengthy articles divided into sections that may include a literature review, a description of the methodology used in the study, data presentation (statistical charts, tables, graphs ), a discussion and conclusions. (Note that if the article is based on qualitative methodology, the data presentation section may not contain numerical data, but will rather be text-dense). You will also see an abstract, in-text citations, and an extensive bibliography (or reference list). The author's affiliations are listed as well as contact information.

If you have located an article in a library database, you can click on the link to the journal the article is contained in to get to more information about the journal. Information indicating that articles in the journal are peer-reviewed (or refereed) is usually included here.

Sometime you want to track down the full-text of an article that you see in reference list of another article. This research technique is called footnote chasing  or backwards searching. Because the library owns articles electronically and in print, you'll need to use two different tools to track down the full text.

SpringerLink allows searching of articles from hundreds of electronic journals and thousands of electronic books published by Springer and its subsidiaries. Many of the journals and books are available for full-text display.

SpringerLink does not have a built-in citation generator (the "Cite This Article" link does not conform to either APA or MLA styles). You may use the following template for citing articles found using this database.

Novel design methods such as fabrication-aware design, structurally informed design, material based design reflect increased interest towards creating new relations between geometry and fabrication in architecture. The objective of this special edition is to examine different relationships between geometry, architecture and fabrication. How can we efficiently fabricate complex geometric shapes in architecture? How can architectural design be enhanced through the connection of geometry and material constraints? Can we use fabrication tools to develop new language of geometric forms? Researchers, designers and builders are invited to submit articles on the relationship between geometry and fabrication process in architecture addressing these and similar questions and objectives.

This special issue will comprise a set of articles advancing theoretical explanations of crime reporting behavior and studying the practical implications of under-reporting for the criminal justice system.

2. While I have read several articles (see the references to the paper) that talks about the fabrication/hallucinations that ChatGPT creates. However, if you are seeking the medical literature, please see this trick (see the Figure I uploaded) to simply ask ChatGPT to generate the Boolean search for PubMed. For us, this was quite successful as noted in the article.

Springer is a member of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association.[19] For some of its journals, Springer does not require its authors to transfer their copyrights, and allows them to decide whether their articles are published under an open-access license or in the traditional restricted licence model.[20] While open-access publishing typically requires the author to pay a fee for copyright retention, this fee is sometimes covered by a third party. For example, a national institution in Poland allows authors to publish in open-access journals without incurring any personal cost but using public funds.[21]

These tasks can be done in any order, but reference books are a good starting place to find an overview of a topic or to look up basic facts quickly. Books and journal articles will contain more in-depth information. There may be more commentary in journals or magazines than in books if the topic is very recent. e24fc04721
