A pirate named Burger Beard travels to Bikini Atoll, where he obtains a magical book that has the power to make any text written upon it real. The book tells the story of SpongeBob SquarePants and his adventures in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob works for Mr. Krabs at the Krusty Krab fast food restaurant, where he cooks Krabby Patties. SpongeBob has spent several years protecting the secret formula of the Krabby Patty from Plankton, the owner of the rival Chum Bucket.

BACKSTORY: Saturday January 31st, my best friend Gil and I try to be early as possible to attend the premiere of The Spongebob Movie: Sponge out of Water in 3D. Though we were ignored to be bought to the fan pen (personally pissed me off), we got our own theater to watch the film in 3D. Oh yeah and while being confused walking into the wrong theater we were given awesome 3D spongebob glasses and Slash walked by us, but we were like "it's too early for this shit." I'm going to call this movie out for what it is. An experiment. Sponge out of Water is an experimental film for Paramount's Animation Studio to showcase how detailed they can be in their CG can be. After their release of Rango, they needed an experimental film to show how well they can stand on their own. For what they showed as an experiment, I'm very impressed. But as a Spongebob movie? I'm nothing more than disappointed.

REVIEW: For anybody thinking the whole movie is the 3D Spongebob movie where most of it is 3D live action and he is out of water, YOU'RE WERE HOODWINKED! Most of the Spongebob movie is in 2D and has a very dark theme going for it for the first part. UNFORTUNATELY the movie is completely unbalanced where all three acts felt as they were inspired from several other sources. The 1st act being Lord of the Flies/Apocalypto, the second being Dr. Who (in the most dumbest way possible), and the last segment being Avengers. The thing about the movie that ultimately fails is the spitballing of its humor. Most of the film is funny with visual gags, and bad puns galore, but then there are moments and jokes that are so random, that even the youngest of children would be confused on what's going on. For sponge stakes, the film ends with an epic rap battle. Whereas the 1st film released a decade ago had a great moral, the one in here feels so forced and muttered it's not even memorable.The live action scenes of "exposition" with Banderas and several seagulls that surround him are annoying, but when the seagulls disappearand the action battle sequence comes in that's when things really start become fun. Sadly it's nothing more than 15 minutes of the movie.

The movie opens above the sea, as we see the Nick logo coming out of the water. Now that is awesome. Once the camera manages to find it, see see Bikini Atoll, the island from the opening. We zoom in as we meet a Pirate played by Antonio Banderas.

Parents need to know that The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Sponge Out of Water stars the most famous talking sponge in popular culture. Like the Nickelodeon cartoon series on which it's based, the movie has occasional insult language ("jerk," "stupid") and exaggerated violence (basically everything Plankton does with weapons -- like guns and cannons -- and the threat of death to SpongeBob, who's offered as a sacrifice at one point). Some of the movie's humor will likely go over young kids' head (like the way everyone in "post-apocalyptic Bikini Bottom" wears Mad Max-like leather costumes, or when one of the gang accidentally lands on a sunbathing woman's back and she murmurs that it feels good), but kids will definitely get the bird poop and blowhole laser gags. SpongeBob isn't known for being educational, but the movie, like most of the shows, does stress the importance of teamwork and friendship. SpongeBob fans will love the trippy nature of their favorite underwater talking friends. The show's wild and unpredictable storylines and goofball antics are charming -- if difficult for those who aren't fans to understand or appreciate. The movie, like the show, is a frenzied and "out there" ... in other words, totally what you'd expect from the movie version of the show, except that the "out of water" experiences in the third act aren't nearly as lovable as the underwater scenes. Although the addition of Banderas as the movie's main antagonist is entertaining, it's the back-and-forth between SpongeBob and his archnemesis, Plankton, that's the best part of the story -- not the sight gag of the gang acquiring superpowers and heading to the beach.

It and Paddington certainly show with a good script and the right creative team anything can be good. Even a time traveling sponge with square pants. :). This is a bright, colorful, fun, and creative movie.

With Squidward as Sour Note, he plays the clarinet, producing a horrible sound that stuns Burger-Beard. Patrick (Mr. Superawesomeness) summons an Ice Cream storm, but instead of attacking Burger-Beard, he eats it. As the Pirate tries to escape, Mr. Krabs (Sir Pinch-a-Lot) traps him. As the team celebrates, Burger-Beard drives off on his Pirate Ship Car. The gang chasing him. Mr. Superawesomeness, riding on SpongeBob Invincibubble), tries to grab the anchor but fails. Then, Sour Note, riding Sandy Cheeks (The Rodent) makes Burger-Beard drop the book, which Invincibubble's wand catches putting the book in a bubble. In a failed attempt to retrieve the Formula, the team is wounded. Finally, as Burger-Beard stops the ship, Plankton (Plank-Ton) lifts the ship, takes the book and the formula, and places the pirate on the ground. As their last act of teamwork, Plankton blows a Plank-Ton of bubbles sending Burger-Beard back to the island assumed to be Bikini Atoll. The heroes go back underwater (with Bikini Bottom back to normal after the defeat of Burger-Beard), as Plankton goes back to being a business rival and plots for his latest scheme yet, but if SpongeBob defeats him, he has Patrick, Squidward, Mr. Krabs, and Sandy to keep him company.

Plankton sets up one final trick to try and steal the Krabby Patty Secret Formula. In his attempt the formula dissapears and Bikini Bottom falls into chaos. The only way to save it is for our heros to leave their watery environment and travel across land to get the formula back.

Burger Beard, who's removed the final page of the book and rewritten the story so that he gets the formula, converts his ship into a food truck to sell Krabby Patties at a beach community. The final page, which Burger Beard discarded in the ocean, lands on the tree dome of Sandy Cheeks, SpongeBob's friend and a squirrel living underwater. Crazed by the lack of Krabby Patties, Sandy thinks the page is a sign from the burger gods, and suggests a sacrifice be made to appease them. The town attempts to sacrifice SpongeBob, but he smells Krabby Patties, and the crowd allows him to follow the scent, which leads to the surface. Bubbles returns because SpongeBob, who'd neglected to keep Saturn and Jupiter from colliding, cost him his job as overseer of the universe. However, he hated the job and is glad to be out of it, and thanks SpongeBob by allowing him and his friends (Mr. Krabs, Sandy, Squidward and Patrick) the ability to breathe on land. Plankton joins also, stowed away in SpongeBob's sock. Bubbles shoots them out of his blowhole and they land on a beach.

When Opaline is contacted her old ally Burger Beard for a sinister mission, our pony heroes are called into action once again-- this time to the waters of Bikini Bottom, where they meet the lovable SpongeBob SquarePants and all his friends.

While the trailers show the main characters, SpongeBob, Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Sandy Cheeks, and Squidward Tenticals out of water for the majority of the trailer, the movie really only has them out of water for what felt like a 30 minutes on a action packed journey to save the secret formula.

Now you may be wondering, how do they get to the surface and still be able to breathe? Well, Bubbles is there for the rescue. He comes back from the future and helps them out by giving them the ability to breathe outside of water. The main characters make their way to the surface and discover the beach life we all thrive for on a summer vacation. As they make their path to get closer to the smell, they discover who the formula-stealer is, Burger-Beard. 2351a5e196
