Cover Drive gained a lot of subscribers on YouTube with videos of them covering popular songs. In April 2011, the band signed a publishing deal with Sony and a recording deal with Polydor Records.[11] After the band was signed they began writing and recording material for their debut album. Whilst in the studio, they met American producer J. R. Rotem who produced their debut single, "Lick Ya Down", which was released on 28 August 2011. After receiving heavy airplay and support on both the Radio and Music channels in the United Kingdom, the song debuted and peaked at number 9 on the UK Singles Chart and number 3 on the UK R&B Singles Chart.

That Girl begins with a nod to Rihanna's Rude Boy before bursting in to a glorious chorus that tips it's hat to the sounds of Shakira. Can't Live In A World is a beautiful ballad that shows off a more mature yet still feel good Cover Drive sound. Hot on the heels of the breezy, bass-driven Lick Ya Down and Twilight's Carib-Euro-pop, the album's third single will be Sparks, a gorgeous, mid-tempo, electro love song that sees Amanda duet with T-Ray. "Sparks is about the connection you feel with someone special, regardless of their age or race or background. It is a love song. It's about anyone who steps in to your life and changes it overnight. "Singing a love song with T-Ray isn't weird, although everyone expects me to say that it is. I've known him for ages and there's a lot of love between us.

When we sing it to each other, we can't stop smiling." Bajan Style will surely have the same effect on the fans who sent Twilight to No.1 and those who are about to discover the sunniest sound of 2012. "Our aim with the album was to have as much fun as we did in our basement doing covers," says Amanda. "We definitely did and you can hear it in every song on the album. They're all about being young and having fun. They're songs that bring that feeling of being on a beach in the blazing sun with your best friends to every day, whether it's sunny outside or not."

In Long and Winding Roads: The Evolving Artistry of the Beatles, Revised Edition, Kenneth Womack brings the band's story vividly to life-from their salad days as a Liverpool Skiffle group and their apprenticeship in the nightclubs and mean streets of Hamburg through their early triumphs at the legendary Cavern Club and the massive onslaught of Beatlemania itself. By mapping the group's development as an artistic fusion, Womack traces the Beatles' creative arc from their first, primitive recordings through Abbey Road and the twilight of their career.

In this revised edition, Womack addresses new insights in Beatles-related scholarship since the original publication of Long and Winding Roads, along with hundreds of the group's outtakes released in the intervening years. The updated edition also affords attention to the Beatles' musical debt to Rhythm and Blues, as well as to key recent discoveries that vastly shift our understanding of formative events in the band's timeless story.

That's What I Call Americana

Tuesday, March 1, 2011 Carolina Chocolate Drops/Luminiscent Orchestrii: tag_hash_111_______________________________________________ (Nonesuch)

The Chocolate Drops are an African-American string band from Durhamwhose first Nonesuch album avoided intimations of minstrelsy but notslavery times, which is when fiddle-banjo-harmonica-bones-kazooensembles first entertained both masters and comrades. As was bothhistorically accurate and the thing to do on the folk circuit wherethey plied their trade, their first Nonesuch album was arresting butcontained--soulful and rather slow, America having speeded upconsiderable since the 19th century. But on this EP they hook up withan NYC Gypsy band whose big moment up to now was one about puttin' thepuddin' in the punum, and whoosh, they're off to the camptownraces. All four songs are quick, sexy, and a trifle nasty. The firstand last celebrate a "short dress gal" who walks "like a queen in theAmazon" from male and female perspectives, both of which focus on thesame end. In between comes a fiddle-fed cover of the gold-digging BluCantrell hit "Hit 'Em Up Style" and one subtitled "Diga Diga Diga"that I say is about speed. Can't parse it further because it's inRoma. That's the 21st-century America I want to live in. A

"We don't tend to have many extra tracks lying around," aver PattersonHood's typically readable notes, and if there are no printed lyrics, maybe that's because four of said tracks were covers: revamped WarrenZevon, obscure Tom T. Hall, meaningful Tom Petty, Shonna-fied "Like aRolling Stone" (and I wouldn't say no to the "Moonlight Mile" I heardthem do once). There's a dirty joke Mike Cooley turns into achildren's song and a Christmas song Hood turns into a dirty joke, aJason Isbell song that's three minutes too long and a Jason Isbellsong that could be his own epitaph, a "Goode's Field Road" taken toofast and an "Uncle Frank" taken once more with feeling. And I haven'teven mentioned "George Jones Talkin' Cell Phone Blues." Leadtrack. Should be. Not much extra here. A MINUS

Israeli popular music includes many quotations from earlier Israeli songs as well as other Israeliana references. Quotations may take various forms, from cover versions to the mere evocation of song titles. This phenomenon preceded the rockisation of Israeli music, had its apex in the 1970s with early rockisation, and is continuing today, despite a certain decline. The purpose of the quotations is often a mere interaction with traditional materials, but it also sometimes expresses a striving towards an experience of life that is more sincere. Two subtopics of special significance are adolescence and political critique. Since earlier hegemony in Israel was maintained by the old left, the rock music rebellion was not as anti-capitalistic as in the Woodstock Festival, rather manifesting anti-authoritarian trends similar to (but milder than) those encountered in Eastern Europe. ff782bc1db
