Come Thou Fount, a favorite of many people, is probably the first hymn I remember loving to sing. It is really a prayer for help in our walk with the Lord. This song expresses the desire of the believer to have his or her heart completely devoted to the Lord. We love this song!

The lyrics in hymns which we do not understand should not be removed, but rather studied so that we may worship the Lord with greater depth, affection and understanding of his unfailing and faithful character. I hope to sing this song again with you all soon, and when we sing this lyric, let us now worship with the knowledge that he is a God who is faithful to help those who call upon him!

So nice to see you yesterday Natasha, How I know the pain of unsucessful pregnacy and barrenness. The frustration of it all, til we come to the place where God shows us He can open the waters, He can help us pass through, and bring us to a place where we have raised our Ebenezer and found filling for our emptiness.

Ebenezer moments are times when you know without a doubt that God has intervened in your life. You realize that only God could have allowed the outcomes you have experienced. His help has brought you through.

I will lift my eyes to the hills-/ Where is my help going to come from?/ My help comes from You, Lord,/ Who made heaven and earth./ You will not allow my foot to be moved; You, who keep me, will not slumber./ You keep all Israel,/ And You will neither slumber nor sleep./ You are my keeper, and the keeper of my family,/ You are our shade/ And the sun shall not strike us by day,/ Nor the moon by night./ You shall preserve us from all evil;/ You shall preserve our souls./ You shall preserve our going out and our coming in,/ From this time forth, and even forevermore. Psalm 121

Here I raise my Ebenezer/ Hither by Thy help I come/ And I hope by Thy good pleasure/ Safely to arrive at home/ Jesus sought me when a stranger/ Wandering from the fold of God/ He, to rescue me from danger/ Interposed His precious blood.

When I look back on my life, it is quite evident that I am where I am by the great help of God. I need to remember that. Every victory I experience is cause to celebrate. And every victory -- in my family, in my job, in my church . . . in any area of my life -- ultimately comes by the great help of God. As Robert Robinson wrote in 1757, that kind of help "call[s] for songs of loudest praise."

Hello 2022! Happy New Year! Welcome to season 4 of the By His Grace podcast! Misty Phillip is back to kick off the first episode of 2022 and she is flying solo in this episode of By His Grace to talk about the year ahead, walking into the new year in intention, how her word of the year has helped clarify the year ahead, and the importance of an Ebenezer & Remembrance Stones.

While we were still sinners, Love gave Himself up for us, and walked out of the grave, so that we could taste the sweetness of mercy and belonging. That song is powerful. Lord, would you help us to sing it?

Rather than sit back and simply envision a life beyond the small-town confines of Vanadzor, Armenia, Rosa Linn stood up and grinded tirelessly to transform her musical dream into reality. The trilingual singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer crossed a seemingly unbridgeable gap from composing music in her childhood bedroom to multiplatinum success and international renown. She did so by creatively sticking to her guns, trusting her gut, and singing straight from the heart, delivering an unfiltered perspective on pop underlined by conversational honesty, a palpable sense of personality, and live instrumentation. After generating over 1 billion streams and earning widespread acclaim from the likes of FLAUNT, Wonderland., Billboard, and The BBC, to name a few, she continues to progress personally and creatively on her debut EP, Lay Your Hands Upon My Heart, [Columbia Records], and more to come.

In 2023, she formally dove into assembling what would become her debut EP, Lay Your Hands Upon My Heart. She found a trusted creative confidant and collaborator in legendary GRAMMY Award-winning producer and songwriter Rick Nowels [Fleetwood Mac, Dua Lipa, Madonna]. In the sessions, she pushed herself by gleaning wisdom from Nowels and leveling up as an artist all around. "From the first day we jammed together, I really connected with him," says Rosa. "We spent a lot of time writing and recording, and he taught me so much. I was a sponge. He made my vocals sound like nothing I'd ever heard before, and we finished the EP together."

Curiosity and a desire to dig deeper caused me to seek the definitions of these words. I discovered that an Ebenezer symbolizes a stone of remembrance, representing God's faithfulness throughout history. A fetter is a chain or restraint that binds. Understanding these definitions brought a new level of richness to the hymn's lyrics, allowing me to connect more deeply with the message the author was trying to convey. It reminded me of the importance of being aware of what we sing in worship, not just blindly following along, but engaging our minds and actually knowing the profound truths we sing to our God.

"Come, thou Fount of every blessing,

Tune my heart to sing thy grace;

Streams of mercy, never ceasing,

Call for songs of loudest praise."

In this opening verse, we find the author recognized God as the source of all blessings. The streams of mercy that never cease invite us to respond with songs of the loudest praise, expressing our gratitude and awe for God's abundant grace in our lives.

"Teach me some melodious sonnet,

Sung by flaming tongues above;

Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,

Mount of thy redeeming love."

As I looked into the meaning of the lyrics, I discovered that the "mount" symbolizes Calvary, where Christ's redeeming love was demonstrated through His sacrifice. This verse invites you to fix your gaze upon God's love, to learn from the melodious songs sung by heavenly beings, and to join in praising the mount of His redeeming love.

"Here I raise my Ebenezer;

Hither by thy help I'm come;

And I hope, by thy good pleasure,

Safely to arrive at home."

Knowing the reference to raising an Ebenezer causes you to reflect on your own personal journey of experiencing God's faithfulness. With each milestone and testimony, we can acknowledge God's guidance and provision. The lyrics continue to resonate as we sing in hopefulness that by God's good pleasure, we will safely arrive at our eternal home. It reminds me that faith is a journey, and in every step, we raise our own Ebenezers, acknowledging the faithfulness of God in our lives.

The goal of this study is to examine the Scriptures that describe Jehovah as our Helper so that we might be equipped to stand fast on this great truth when the storms of life come and we find ourselves in narrow straits and in need of Jehovah's help. Before you begin you might pause and praise God for being our very present help in our time of need as you listen to the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir's version "My Help"

(2) Boetheo (click more detailed word study) (997) is Greek verb which means to help or to come to the aid of someone. Boetheo is derived two words boe = a cry, exclamation + th = to run. Can you see the incredible word picture that results from combining these two words? The idea conveyed is of one who upon hearing a cry for help, runs to give aid to assist (or to use an old but very good synonym, to succor).

Do not miss the incredible picture "painted" by boethos the Greek word used to translate 'azar, the Hebrew word for help. Boethos (see note above) is derived from two words (boe = cry out + theo = to run) which together give the picture of one who upon hearing a cry, runs to the aid of the one in distress! In Deut 33:26 the picture is of Jehovah Himself "riding the heavens" upon hearing the cry of His beloved to give them divine help ("Jehovah Ezer!") What is the implied condition? We need to make the choice to cry out. This might mean we need to relinquish our pride and be willing to humble ourselves and cry out. To whom do you cry out when you are in anguish, difficulty or distress? May God give us all the grace to not hesitate to cry out to Jehovah Ezer, Who will come to our aid in Jesus. Amen.

2 Chronicles 14:11 Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, "Jehovah, there is no one besides You to help (azar, boetheo) in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help (azar in the imperative, boetheo) us, O LORD our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; let not man prevail against You."

Psalm 121:1 (Psalm 121- A Commentary) A Song of Ascents. I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? 2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.

When you are in trouble, ask God for help. Ask believing that He is able to give it. Ask expecting that He will bestow it. Do not grieve the Spirit of God with doubts and mistrust. These things will be fiery arrows in your soul to drink away the very life of your strength. However hard the struggle, however difficult the trial, seek the Lord, and seek Him in the confidence He deserves. Depend only on the arm invisible, the arm omnipotent. Be a scholar in the school of faith. Become proficient in the divine art of prayer and praise.

"The LORD is my strength and my shield. My heart trusted in Him, and I am HELPED; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him." (Ps 28:7NKJV-note) Notice the growth "in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2Pe 3:18-note), proceeding from "trusted" (past tense), to "am helped...rejoices" (present tense), culminating in "praise" to Him (future tense). Indeed, the pattern is "Supplicating, seeing, singing." (Phillips) Notice that based on past experiences with God, David resolved to trust in JEHOVAH EZER, his "Hiding Place," and was filled with "songs of deliverance." (Ps 32:7-note) John Phillips reminds us that none of us "live our Christian lives in a vacuum. Where we are today is the result of where we were yesterday; where we will be tomorrow is being determined by where we are today." Samuel modeled this timeless truth when he "took a large stone (Heb = 'eben) and set it between the towns of Mizpah and Shen, and named it EBENEZER (literally "Stone of Help")" testifying "Up to this point JEHOVAH has HELPED us (Lxx = verb boetheia ~ "run to our aid upon hearing our cry").(1Sa 7:12-note) Beloved, may the Spirit enable all of us to ever sing these triumphant words "Here I raise my EBENEZER. Hither by Thy great HELP I've come. And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at Home." (Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing by Robert Robinson) 17dc91bb1f
