The origins of the game are a little hazy. One of the first documented references to the word "solitaire" was in a 17th-century engraving featuring Anne-Joulie de Rohan-Chabot, Princess Soubise, playing solitaire. However, this was a different game as it used pegs instead of cards.

Lately I've been covering some of the most popular builder solitaires that use two decks of cards. After shuffling, a tableau is set up with seven columns of cards. From left to right, each column contains one more card, so the first one contains just one card, the second one - two cards and so on. In each pile, all of the cards are placed face down except for the last one which is upturned. The remaining cards are placed in the stock at the upper left of the layout (face down).

Your goal in free Klondike solitaire is to build the four foundations (in the rectangles in the upper right part). Foundations are built up by suit, starting from Ace, then Two, Three and up to King. Contrary to that the tableau piles are built down by alternate colors. You can move a single card, a part of any pile or a complete pile on top of any other pile, but according to this rule - alternate colors and downwards order.

The remaining cards are placed in the stock at the lower right of the layout (face down).

Your goal when playing Spider solitaire free online is to build stacks of cards on the tableau forming descending suit sequences (from King to Ace). If a whole sequence is formed in one of the columns it is removed from the tableau completely. When all 104 cards are removed (as separate King to Ace sequences), you win the game.

A little more difficult free online solitaire, FreeCell (or Free Cell Solitaire) is played with one standard 52-card deck (no Joker). After shuffling, a tableau is set up of a total of 52 cards, placed into eight columns row by row, so at the end first four rows contain seven cards and the last four contain six cards each.

I stumbled across the deck of cards picture ring in LabVIEW a bit ago, and have been developing a classic solitaire game application . While I do want to stress that this is still a bit of a work in progress (version 1.0), I wish to share this with the community as there is a lot of content ideas here. I made the front panel as aesthetically pleasing as a regular solitaire game with a custom icon and run time menu containing "New Game", "Exit" and "About" options which are called in the Menu Selection event of the producer loop. If the user selects Exit, a command is passed into the queue to stop the consumer and display loops, but what is quite cool is at the end I have it so that if you are in deployment mode it quits LabVIEW, but not if you are in development mode .
