If you mean alternative Skype client, no such tool exists because protocol used in the Skype is closed and they didn't published the source code of Skype. So you can't access Skype through another client.

Goober messenger by far is the best VOIP, video chat & text chat client I have found. OoVoo would be my second runner up, both are far better than Skype. However, all communications using Goober are encrypted for security and Goober uses very little memory. Goober is completely free and does not have any ads unlike ooVoo.

The Skype for Business Basic client is designed to be used on systems that need only basic functionality. It provides instant messaging (IM), audio and video calls, online meetings, availability (presence) information, and sharing capabilities.

If you want to deploy Skype for Business Basic to a large number of people in your business, see Deploy the Skype for Business client in Microsoft 365 for information about deployment tools you can use.

We use Office 365 / Sfb in our Citrix Xendesktop 7.15 MCS / App Layering environment and looking to get into Video Calls. Knowing that to make this not **** for video quality the HDX Optimization pack is needed. Our iGel thin clients have the Realtime Engine feature baked in and enabled and the Connector installed on the VDA and all works fine for the most part (we are also testing w/ Windows & Mac endpoints where the Engine is installed there and working the same)

I know to make that optimization magic happen it has to do a lot of behind the scenes connections from the VDA/client etc but these behaviors are pretty much making it unusable and making day to do operations w/ just IM functions less than ideal to where we may have to just remove that option. In case it matters our SfB server is in the cloud (365) so not sure if that plays a role in issues like this but wanted to mention. I am going to open a ticket as well but thought i'd toss it out here as well to see what others think. We'd like to move to MS Teams soon enough to replace SfB but cant until optimized video calling is released

yup i can confirm that Windows 10 i have zero issues. Windows 7 i even simplified my image to have only Windows 7, Office 365 & the HDX connector (excluded the VDA agent at this point). Joined the image to the domain and RDP'd in since support told me that its all based on the RDP protocol. I have the same issue ....any new message that comes in gives the pop up but clicking it seems like it does nothing for several seconds and locks up the entire Skype client until it finishes doing whatever its doing. then it works fine. Video calls are even more delayed and sometimes locks it up for minutes. Support told me since it happens w/ RDP too there's nothing that they can do. If i remove the HDX connector Skype works perfect and i have no issues so it so it seems like its either something w/ that connector or how Skype works w/ it on Windows 7. Would anyone have any ideas ? i'm not sure I have the ability to contact Microsoft on this

Basically when RTC is installed it takes over the A/V functions from Skype client. Even when in un-optimized mode (fallback mode). The connector has a small engine in it that will kick in when in fallback mode. But it very unusual to have this behavior regarding to UI. SIP and UI are still handled by Skype.

- What version is the RTC?

they are in separate layers but when i set the HDX connector layer up i use my 365 layer as a dependency (so basically when it spins up the temporary packaging machine it presents 365/skype) there for the install so basically does the same thing

As far as when at we see its when a new video / audio call comes in (and w/ IM's too ) you'll see the pop up in the corner but if you click on it it acts like you didnt click it and the entire skype client is frozen for a little bit (sometimes 5 seconds, sometimes up to 30 seconds......it varies). then once it finishes whatever its doing then all seems fine. If we remove either the HDX connector or User Layer it acts normal (pop up comes up , you click it and it opens right up)

If your failure scenario involves a Skype for Business desktop client as the remote endpoint in a chat conversation or AV call, then you should include the logs from the desktop client in your error report. You can view the desktop client logs on your own, but we haven't documented the logging format so you probably won't find resources to make sense of them. Instead, collect the logs and submit them with your bug report.

If I run this script, it will return "Presence unknown". However, if I open up the Skype client manually and search for the user, I can see their availability then (let's say this user is set to Available).

It would appear as though it is unable to query their availability until it is manually loaded into cache(?) from my client. Any idea why this would possibly happen or how I can have it return the proper results without manually searching for the user first?

A super bonus would be if this program also had an Android app so I could also use it on my Galaxy S6, but my laptop & desktop are my main concerns. I spent about 10 minutes Googling for an answer, but I was constantly getting results from as far back as 2009 even when I would put 2016 in my search window. I feel silly even asking this question, but I'm at the end of my rope with the official Skype client.

A key element to understanding this is that you have ALREADY BEEN HIRED by the client using an Upwork contract. So that means there are no limitations on how you may communicate with that client OR with anybody else on the team.

we have both cisco call manager and skype for business options on the table for new implementation and we are trying to get the benefits from both applications, but the only concern for the management is that every user will have two extension number one for cisco devices and one for skype.

3. Stop Ringing: 18

One issue with this setup that we're starting to see in our environment, is when the call comes in, with the wait time set to 0.0, it forks immediately to Skype. If the user is unavailable, away, offline, or otherwise unreachable within the skype environment, the call can't be completed and if voice mail is configured within Skype, as ours is, the call will be diverted almost immediately from the Skype system, sending a missed call email and cucm will lose the call.

The other possibility is that the call comes in, forks out to both systems, user answers their desk phone, call dies that was heading to Skype. User then gets a missed call email within Skype.

By default, Skype for Business for Windows launches automatically when you log into Windows, although you can change this setting. You can also set this option in macOS. All clients will log you in with your primary user account by default; you may be prompted to authenticate to complete the login. If you need to log into an alternate account (such as a group account), you may need to sign out and log in manually. For more, see ARCHIVED: Log into UniCom with Skype for Business in Windows or macOS.

Note: With the release of Lync Server 2013 in October 2012, a new collaboration feature "Persistent Group Chat" which allows multi-party chat with preservation of content between chat sessions was introduced. However, only the native Windows OS client and no other platform supports this feature at this time.[15] The main new features of this version are the addition of real-time multi-client collaborative software capabilities, (which allow teams of people to see and simultaneously work on the same documents and communications session). Lync and Skype for Business implement these features as follows:

All collaboration sessions get automatically defined as conferences, where clients can invite more contacts.Conference initiators (usually called "organizers") can either promote participants to act as presenters or demote them to act as attendees. They can also define some basic policies about what presenters and attendees can see and do. Deeper details of policy permissions are defined at server level.

Skype for Business uses a number of extensions to the SIP/SIMPLE instant-messaging protocol for some features. As with most instant-messaging platforms, non-Microsoft instant-messaging clients[17] that have not implemented these publicly available extensions[14] may not work correctly or have complete functionality. Skype for Business supports federated presence and IM to other popular instant message services such as AOL, Yahoo, MSN, and any service using the XMPP protocol, although support for XMPP has been deprecated in Skype for Business 2019.[18] Text instant-messaging in a web browser is available via Skype for Business integration within Exchange Outlook Web App. ff782bc1db
