From Eisner Award-winning author and executive producer ND Stevenson ... comes a modern take on the '80s girl power icon for a new generation of young fans. The trailblazing property originally debuted in 1985 to satisfy overwhelming demand for a female lead fantasy series. With Stevenson's unique voice at the helm, fans are in store for an epic and timely tale that celebrates female friendship and empowerment, lead by a warrior princess tailor made for today. The series will be available to Netflix members worldwide in 2018.[1]

The eight Elemental Princesses of Etheria are the princesses charged, because of their connections to the Runestones, with maintaining the balance of Etheria through the Heart of Etheria. Only seven of the Elemental Princesses were connected to the Heart of Etheria: Glimmer, Perfuma, Frosta, Scorpia, Mermista, Adora and Mara (formerly). The rest of the princesses do not have Runestones and are Non-Elemental Princesses.

The elemental princesses regulate Etheria's weather and seismic activity, they are conduits of the Runestones' power. They are not the only beings or things bound to a runestone; for more information please see the Elemental page. The princesses harness elemental power through the runestone and gain immense control over the natural and magical powers given by Etheria and it's moons via the runestones.

He also gathered an all-female writing staff to update this team of powerful women. In the original show, the princesses are white, skinny and presumably straight. The new rebellion includes women of color. They're women in all different shapes and sizes. And there are women who love other women.

"It's not accidental that every gay person I know loved Sailor Moon growing up," Tobia says. "It's because there was embedded in the story a transformation narrative for each of the characters. You went from the clothes you had to wear to school, to then getting your magical uniform that gave you your special powers that was shiny, and sparkly and cute."

Good and evil are clearly distinguished, and most of the characters' intentions are obvious. Shadow Weaver and the Horde control by force, but also by manipulation and lies. When She-Ra learns the truth, however, she chooses the side of honesty and fairness over that of power, despite the danger it causes her and the friends it costs.

She-Ra willingly departs from her past and the only reality she's ever known to fight for the oppressed. Doing so pits her against old friends for the sake of new ones. She embraces a new destiny and steps up to the challenges it poses for her, and her new compatriots help her find her way. Villains will stop at nothing to achieve power.

Parents need to know that She-Ra and the Princesses of Power revamps the titular character first introduced to viewers in the '80s series She-Ra: Princess of Power. The story has lots of images of girl power, from She-Ra herself to her many strong female compatriots. Women really do dominate on both sides of the good/evil divide, and She-Ra and her Etherian friends model courage, determination, and adherence to a strong sense of justice. While the Horde soldiers are inspired by power and driven by manipulation, She-Ra and her friends fight for peace. Expect battle scenes that show unarmed characters being hurt by explosions or laser blasts, suggesting that some are killed.

Intimacy comes not only from character-driven storytelling but also from formatting that allows audiences to binge-watch content from a variety of locations and contexts. My use of the term queer seriality focuses on how the seriality of streaming television is inherently intimate, breaking down boundaries between various binaries and (for creators and audiences at least, if not necessarily for platforms) prioritizing affect above profit. Care and community manifest in the streaming context of She-Ra because audiences are empowered, not just to see themselves represented but to do so repeatedly.

She figures out that fascism isn't cool and rebels. In the process she comes into possession of the Sword of Protection. By using it, she becomes She-Ra, a superpowered version of herself with heightened abilities including strength, speed, and endurance.

The Alliance had existed in the past but crumbled due to infighting and the overwhelming might of Hordak. She-Ra travels through Etheria, visiting each kingdom and winning over the princesses of power to her cause.

One key element held over from the original show is how Adora becomes She-Ra. All of the other princesses on Etheria possess some kind of power - Glimmer can teleport, for instance - but She-Ra's power comes from a more ancient and cosmic source.

Of course, the show resists this messaging. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (notice the subtle title change?) is itself a rebellion. Much like Wonder Woman, She-Ra is a female power fantasy that casts off the male gaze and masculine norms in general. In fact, the show goes further than Wonder Woman in terms of re-assessing what is coded as heroic, and allows its characters to be unashamedly bright, colourful and girlie. If they want.

Glimmer gets everything she wants but nothing she deserves, in her opinion. She has a keen mind, brute strength, and problems with impulse control, but she deserves to lead just like her mother. On a hunt for more strategic battle plans after a failed mission, she sneaks into the Fright Zone and overhears Hordak and Shadow Weaver talk about the power of magic and technology. Glimmer, frustrated with her mother's doubts and eager for power, rebuilds the Princess Alliance with plans to tear it down by defecting to the Horde and work with one of the greatest sorcerers of all time. With new allies to fight with and old friends to fight against, how will the tides of war change.

In this Horde-less Etheria, seven kingdoms live harmoniously. Every year, the princesses of every kingdom host a day of celebration during the last week of the year, beginning with Bright Moon, and ending with Mystacor, where the year is received with a show of magical lights in the sky, visible everywhere on the planet.

It was barely the first celebration of the week when the past came back for Castaspella. She was conversing with her brother when they saw the woman arrive, the one who had long ago been Micah's tutor and, not so long ago, unbeknownst to everyone, Castaspella's lover.

They have a week to reconnect, to reminiscence, and get to know each other again. Will that old ember light up again, or is this the final goodbye? e24fc04721
