For some context, we have a very large database that houses our warehouse data. As the database has grown to a large size, it's causing issues with space on the server along with some application performance. So looking at it from my perspective I suggested we archive and purge the PROD database, to house only 18 months data in the PROD environment.

Hey Guys, Hope someone here has experience with this issue/concern,

Picked up a new customer, a Law Office, the previous IT company did them wrong, now were the consulting firm. They have a Windows Server Standard FE, has Exchange Server 2008 running currently running. The entire office is connected to the domain. Mostly Windows 7 and 1 x Vista.

They are going to slowly upgrade the office, were migrating their email off the server in a few months and into O365, so Exchange will be, at some point decommissioned. Only keeping the serve for a file server/data. So, for now we have to work with it. They need 2 computers ASAP, so...

ISSUE: Has anyone had experience, or would know if Windows 10 Pro can successfully connect to the AD domain for this edition of Windows Server Standard FE??? We have the systems, but don't have a lab or access to 2007 FE for testing.

Some general info

- Each host needs to be licensed.

- A minimum of 8 core licenses is required for each physical processor and a minimum of 16 core licenses is required for each server.

- Core licenses are sold in packs of two.

- Standard Edition provides rights for up to 2 Operating System Environments or Windows Servers containers with Hyper-V isolation when all physical cores in the server are licensed. For each additional 1 or 2 VMs, all the physical cores in the server must be licensed again.

- DataCenter Edition provides rights for unlimited Operating System Environments or Windows Servers containers with Hyper-V isolation when all physical cores in the server are licensed.

Main differences between web and standard are the max memory and max number of cores. Both web and standard version don't have the possibility of online indexing, this is only possible in the enterprise edition.

More tomorrow when I hopefully share the link to the recording and some answers to questions. The webinar today talked a bit more about FCIs in SQL Server standard and utilizing block-level replication tools; SIOS Datakeeper is the tool we prefer, though there are others.

i have a purchased copy of server 2019 standard, loaded onto my physical server, activation key entered and accepted and then hyper service added to the roles, its the only role added to the physical server.

ive trawelled everywhere to get answer to this to no avail, it says my servers need activating so the code i find from numerous articles is StandardTNK62-RXVTB-4P47B-2D623-4GF74, entered using slmgr /ipk, it refused to activate just keeps saying in red writing it cant activate, if i go back to my purchased code it lets me activate 1 virtual server then wont let it be used on the second server as it says its being used, what am i doing wrong, telephone support is useless as its not uk itys an indian call centre

As far as WSUS even if oyu have 2 virtual and 2 physical machines this is taking up a lot of space and management time that would be unnecessary since you are managing the whole lot, just manually patch the servers once a month and your clients - you could set to automatic.

so as i understand it then the server licence allows me to install a copy on the physical server and then install 2 vm but only 1 of the vm macines can have the second copy of server 2019 and the other vm must be windows 10 or another operating system ?

yes, i had to talk to microsoft to force the activation over the phone as i loaded up a few months ago and then decided to add hyper manager to the server roles and the machine got into the rediculous loop of not being able to boot up which i cant believe microsoft hadnt tested that key role before release, it took ages to find out that a service pack had been released to fix it, because of all the reboot loop i endeed up re installing without the hyper service but then it wouldnt let me activate the server software as it said it was installed on another machine which was my machine before re-install, i have a nasty feeling my registry is messed up somewhere

so are these posts i have rread on other forums in correct. several different authors show a code for data center and a code for server standard and a code foe essentials i think, some people quote it can only work on data center in which case where have the codes come from

it was my understanding although very limited that i could put my copy on physical server then activate then install hyper manager only, then install 2 vm machines and they looked to the physical copy for their AVAM code, that would be my 2 uses of the operating system as the physical is hosting hyper manager, i wasnt even expecting to see an activate message never mind these problems

To deliver a managed service experience, Amazon RDS does not provide shell access to DBinstances, and it restricts access to certain system procedures and tables that requireadvanced privileges. Amazon RDS supports access to databases on a DB instance using any standardSQL client application such as Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. Amazon RDS does not allowdirect host access to a DB instance via Telnet, Secure Shell (SSH), or Windows RemoteDesktop Connection. When you create a DB instance, the master user is assigned to thedb_owner role for all user databases on that instance, and has alldatabase-level permissions except for those that are used for backups. Amazon RDS manages backupsfor you.

If you have a scenario that requires a larger amount of storage, you can usesharding across multiple DB instances to get around the limit. This approachrequires data-dependent routing logic in applications that connect to thesharded system. You can use an existing sharding framework, or you can writecustom code to enable sharding. If you use an existing framework, the frameworkcan't install any components on the same server as the DB instance.

To use these features, we recommend that you install SQL Server on an Amazon EC2 instance, oruse an on-premises SQL Server instance. In these cases, the EC2 or SQL Serverinstance acts as the Master Data Services server for your SQL Server DB instanceon Amazon RDS. You can install SQL Server on an Amazon EC2 instance with Amazon EBS storage, pursuant to Microsoft licensing policies.

The Microsoft SQL Server database engine uses role-based security. The master user name that you specify when you create a DB instance is a SQL Server Authentication login that is a member of the processadmin, public, and setupadmin fixed server roles.

To set up auditing, set the parameter rds.sqlserver_audit to the value fedramp_hipaa. If your DB instance is not already using a custom DB parameter group, you must create a custom parameter group and attach it to your DB instance before you can modify the rds.sqlserver_audit parameter. For more information, see Working with parameter groups.

Many Microsoft customers are rushing to implement encryption in order to meet the new California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) requirements. Your only protection from class action lawsuits in the event of a breach is through encryption of sensitive data, and proper protection of encryption keys. Storing encryption keys on the same server as the protected data will NOT provide you with CCPA protections. See California law AB 1130 for more information about encryption key management and data breaches.

You can run Alliance Key Manager as a dedicated key management server for your SQL Server Standard Edition database applications in Azure and AWS. You will find Alliance Key Manager in the Azure and AWS Marketplaces. You can even run Alliance Key Manager in your own data center and protect SQL Server in the cloud. You are never locked into a cloud platform.

Allocate and optimize resources for maximum efficiency with our server management software. Manage up to 70,000 virtual machines and 5,000 hosts across 15 vCenter Server instances. Use vSphere HA and DRS clusters to support up to 64 hosts and 8,000 virtual machines. Replicate roles, permissions, and licenses across the infrastructure so you can simultaneously log in, view, and search the inventories of all vCenter Servers. Link multiple vCenter Server Appliances and increase visibility without using costly load balancers.

vSphere Client Plug-ins from VMware partners allow IT admins to manage third-party elements in their data center directly from vCenter Server. Our server management software has the largest partner ecosystem in the industry, with our open vSphere Client Plug-in SDK. As a result, vCenter Server customers can implement back-up, data protection, server management, network management and security management, directly from vCenter Server. 006ab0faaa
