Android has a nifty feature to disable auto-rotation... Is there some sort of gesture or key combination to rotate your screen? (Say I am in a browser and want to rotate). The idea is to be on auto-rotate = off (mostly desired) and manually change the orientation when needed without exiting the application (preferably).

I use Quick Settings and there's an option to toggle auto-rotate. I have it so the shortcut to Quick Settings lives in my Notification bar so to toggle it requires a swipe, two taps and the back button to toggle it and get back to the app I was in.

Since you've said toggling auto is fine, you can just use the quick settings pull-down in Jelly Bean and later. Hold the phone in the orientation you want, then pull down the settings tray, and turn auto-rotate back on. When it's rotated, turn it off again right away.

You can even use it on phones that don't have the stock settings tray, if they have a replacement. Samsung phones are an example of this: instead of two trays, they have one notification panel with "quick access settings" at the top. You can configure which settings are shown, and auto rotate is one of the options.

In your profiles screen, click the + button and select application. In the following screen that shows with the list of your installed apps, choose the app that you would wish to turn the Orientation lock to off when opened.

I don't think so. If your auto-rotation is off, only the application which you are running can force the screen to rotate programmatically. You can do this with code but only for your application not for others.

The landscape orientation of mobile phone only works on one side of the landscape.

So I suggest to also enable the game to rotate on the other side.

You may say this suggestion is not really important, but here are the reasons that may change your mind:

1.) Convenience. When earphones/charger were connected to your phone while playing, it becomes a disturbance (especially when you were holding your phone or using your thumb on using the virtual controls), so you tend to rotate your phone to eliminate this such inconvenience.

I have a website that is best viewed in Landscape mode. How can I have it so if the user loads the website in landscape mode it is fine but if it loads in Portrait mode or they rotate from Landscape to Portrait mode a image or something popups up taking up the entire screen asking them to rotate back to landscape? Thinking Javascript/jQuery can do this.

I have seen this done on my iPad with the Game Informer app where if the user opens the app in Portrait or rotates from Landscape to Portrait a opaque image pops up asking them to rotate back to landscape. [see iPad screenshot]

Ring Video Doorbell no longer plays video back in Landscape Mode. have an iPhone 14 Pro Max and have had no issues until yesterday when your doorbell no longer allows you to flip your phone to landscape mode and watch a video playback? Whats the issue? When will this be fixed?

Hi @Angie1966. I just tested out watching a video from the Event History on my iPhone and was able to swap to landscape mode, with the screen orientation lock off. Make sure you do not have your phone locked to portrait mode, as that would prevent the video from swapping to landscape when you rotate your phone. Also, which version of iOS and which version of the Ring app are you currently on?

I've never had this type of problem before the past few days but it's getting rather annoying! When online, I keep getting a message saying "Please rotate your device". I would understand it if I needed to do this whilst viewing an article, say, but I have never needed to. Has anyone else come across this issue? Many thanks in advance.

Open an app that supports the landscape view, such as YouTube or Netflix. Instead of holding your phone in the normal portrait orientation, rotate it on its side. The content on your screen should now rotate into landscape mode.

2. Locate the icon featuring a small lock with an arrow curving around it. If Screen Rotation Lock is active, this will appear highlighted. Tap it to unhighlight it, which will disable Screen Rotation Lock and allow your screen to rotate freely.

3. Contact Apple Support. If you've restarted your device and disabled Screen Rotation Lock but your screen still won't rotate, it may be time to contact Apple Support to fix the problem. Your phone may have a broken accelerometer or another issue that you'd need a professional to fix. Taking your phone to your local Apple store or authorized Apple repair store is the first step to getting the issue fixed.

Open the picture you want to rotate in the Photos app, and then select Edit. Choose the Crop/Rotate icon at the bottom of the screen. There needs to be a way to turn off screen rotation in app. Despite having it locked on my device, the app will automatically rotate everything when the screen is slightly tilted. I used to enjoy working on my notes while lying down but now I can't do that and honestly it makes the app a pain to use. Ever since the update that made this app like the web browser, it's really gone down in quality in my opinion. It's so much harder to use.

Sorry to respond to this so many months later, but the issue is a persistent one. I have a Samsung S22 Ultra with Android 13 on Verizon, and there is no auto-rotate setting anywhere in the Accessibility settings (or elsewhere). @RachelGomez, can you indicate what version of Android this works on (including phone and provider, since the phone makers and providers always mess with the OS)?
