The really fun part for lead trainers Chris Shank of Cockatoo Downs, Cari Clements Inserra of the San Diego Zoo, myself, and assisting trainer Kathryne Thorpe was being able to provide guidance where needed, but allowing the guests to be the drivers of the sessions. We saw complicated sessions, teaching the hoofstock some abstract concepts like walking away from the trainer until coming back when called. Targeting sessions, teaching the donkeys voluntary hoof trimming, turning circles on cue and stationing. Guests taught birds and donkeys to retrieve items. There was lots of chicken training of all kinds, which is always rewarding. Chickens are eager learners, virtual bottomless pits, and offer quick feedback and help us work on mechanics and other subtle aspects of a successful relationship. Both chickens and an African Crowned Crane learned the beginnings of color discrimination, in which they would peck a coordinating color when a certain color marker was presented. And in addition to step up training with the parrots that allowed the lead trainers to draw the lens closer in on building sensitivity to body language working with animals and how our movements influence theirs, there were many sessions with the guests that wanted to challenge themselves to work with animals that they had anxiety about due to previous encounters or simply wanted to build their skillset with more difficult animals. One trainer even target trained one of our baby education American Alligators, an animal which had previously not been worked with at all.

Suppose wanted to train a machine learning algorithm on some dataset including some categorical parameters. (New to machine learning, but my thinking is...) Even if converted all the categorical data to 1-hot-encoded vectors, how will this encoding map be "remembered" after training?

How then during future predictions will data inputs remember that mapping (where "good" maps to index 0, etc.) (Specifically, when planning on using a keras RNN or LSTM model)? Do I need to save it somewhere (eg. python pickle)(if so, how do I get the explicit mapping)? Or is there a way to have the model automatically handle categorical inputs internally so can just input the original label data during training and future use?

How bad is the problem? How much do people forget? Research onthe forgetting curve (Figure 1) shows that withinone hour, people will have forgotten an average of 50 percent of the information youpresented. Within 24 hours, they have forgotten an average of 70 percent of new information, and within a week, forgetting claims an average of 90 percent of it. Some people remember more or less, but in general, the situation isappalling, and it is the dirty secret of corporate training: no matter how muchyou invest into training and development, nearly everything you teach to youremployees will be forgotten. Indeed, although corporations spend 60 billiondollars a year on training, this investment is like pumping gas into a car thathas a hole in the tank. All of your hard work simply drains away.

If our brain suppresses active sensory inputs, it also needsto suppress active memories so that it can focus only on essential information. When you think about it, every minute of the day we receive a river ofinformation that is relevant only for a short period of time. For example, youmay have remembered the phone number of a restaurant for a couple of minutes, but then it was no longer useful, and your brain managed to quickly forget it. Likewise, you parked your car last Thursday and you remembered where it was for the restof the day, but now that the information is no longer useful, your brain hasforgotten it.

Although the brain will inevitably purge most of what itlearns, it does retain some information, and contemporary neuroscience hasdiscovered the signals that teach your brain which signals to remember andwhich information to purge and which information to retain. Next month, we willteach you ways to talk to the brain, and tell it to retain the importantinformation.

Keep in mind that the stage is different from the television or the computer screen in the actual performance approach by the trainer. Just like acting for the stage is different from acting for television or film; one is a distance medium and the other is filled with close-ups.

The same can be said for digital learning, and, in fact, any kind of training that does not take place where the trainer can see his or her audience and react to them. Even an actor, with lines memorized, does not act in a void. An actor wants an audience because it makes the performance complete; it also makes each performance a little different. So it should be with training.

Anki is a program which makes remembering things easy. Because it's a lot more efficient than traditional study methods, you can either greatly decrease your time spent studying, or greatly increase the amount you learn.

Anyone who needs to remember things in their daily life can benefit from Anki. Since it is content-agnostic and supports images, audio, videos and scientific markup (via LaTeX), the possibilities are endless.

 For example:

"The single biggest change that Anki brings about is that it means memory is no longer a haphazard event, to be left to chance. Rather, it guarantees I will remember something, with minimal effort. That is, Anki makes memory a choice."

Does anyone remember the old Matzie Swing Trainer? It had a bend in the shaft and the head was sort of an outline of a clubhead. I think they were supposed to teach the release, maybe not. How were they supposed to work? How did they help?

So if you hold training sessions, and your employees seem to forget the training immediately, it may be time to quit blaming them and turn your thoughts inward: what can you do to create more memorable training experiences? How can you help workers remember and apply what they learned during training when they're back on the job?

And second, because there are things you can do as a trainer to help your learners with each of the five steps above. Do it well, and your training will succeed. Do it poorly, and your training will fail. So it pays to be aware of these steps and to create training that helps your learners through all the different parts of the process.

Showing your trainer respect is important. There are so many articles to be found on how to be a good coach or trainer. But there are actually few on how to be a good student. How do you behave in order for the trainer to fell that you respect him or her? Here are some tips that can help you build a healthy and educational relationship with your trainer, in order to get a really good collaboration.

You do not get rich from teaching others, unless maybe you are a famous top rider. While teaching might feel like the weekly luxury you give yourself and your horse, it is also what gives your trainer butter on the bread. Do not complain about the price and make sure to pay on time. If you feel that it is not worth the money, it is better to search the market for a different instructor.

Sometimes it can be difficult to get going and you may have a clothing crisis or have forgotten your stuff. Maybe these are some of the reasons why you sometimes arrive late? We recognize the need to look sharp for your training session, but the time you have with your trainer is short and there are probably other students coming in after you.

If for some reason you cannot make it to a training session, remember to let your instructor know as early as possible. Of course, emergencies can occur, but if you are unable to give a 24-hour notice, you will have to pay for the lesson. Most other professionals have a fee they charge for last minute cancellations and your trainer is a professional like any other professional.

If your lesson is 45 minutes, then you should respect when your time is up. Sometimes you can be lucky enough and get 5-10 minutes more and other times less. Most trainers keep very good track of time and are completely fair about how they spend it.

If he or she tells you that your left leg has slipped forward, it is probably because it actually has. Your trainer sees your body from the outside and can see when you are doing something wrong. Do not start a discussion about it. Instead use your energy to ride.

Do not expect your trainer to be a psychologist or therapist who can pay attention to all your problems at work or at home. That is an unreasonable expectation, and that is not what they are here for. So, unless it has a direct impact on your riding, park your mental challenges in the stable. Whatever you do, do not bring your problems with you onto the back of your horse. He will notice them right away and act upon it.

Your trainer may be amazing but remember that he or she is also just made of flesh and blood and cannot perform miracles. No trainer can enable you to ride at the Olympics after 30 days of training. You cannot get full-time results with part-time efforts. If you can only ride two days a week, you need to be realistic about what it means for your progress as a rider.

Your horse cannot go from Beginner to Grand Prix in two months. Also be realistic about your horse's abilities and talent and do not push it beyond the limit of what it is physically capable of. It is unfair to expect your trainer to teach your horse to do something it will never be able to achieve. 17dc91bb1f
