A new prayer session is produced every day of the working week and one session for the weekend. It is not a 'Thought for the Day"", a sermon or a bible-study, but rather a framework for your own prayer.

There will be a captioned performance on Wednesday, October 18 @ 7PM. You will need to download GalaPro from your app store and create an account. Find (pray) from the list of productions. Choose your closed captioning as the service service for the show. Follow the steps on your screen (turn phone to airplane mode, connect to the GalaPro Wifi network, turn off all phone notifications). Your phone will be the device for closed captioning.

(pray) is wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp from the sidewalk to the lobby. If you wish or need to remain in your wheelchair throughout the show, our staff will remove the theater chair. This can be done by letting us know your needs/plans in advance; just email dzhang@arsnovanyc.com. It can also be done without prior notice when you arrive! If you wish to transfer to the theater seat from your wheelchair, we are happy to store your wheelchair or motorized mobility aid in the lobby during the performance. The House Manager will return your mobility device to you at the end of the performance as (pray) has no intermission.

Licensed service animals (any dogs that are trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities) are welcome at (pray). They must rest in your seating area throughout the performance and are unable to occupy the aisle. Please bring proof of certification or a license for your service animal and be prepared to present it to the House Manager upon request. You can send advance notice to dzhang@arsnovanyc.com, which is appreciated, but not required.

Tix to (pray) are Name Your Price, meaning you decide what you pay! The minimum price for Name Your Price tix start at $5 plus fees the first week of performances and go up in $10 increments each week of performances, so you can save by booking tix to earlier performances in the run. And fun fact: for every dollar you spend on your ticket, we spend the following on the show:

Can the secular world and the religious world understand each other? We ask that question while visiting Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Pastor Ted Haggard at the New Life Church has put in place a project to pray in front of the home of every person in the city, systematically, block by block and house by house. He's also helped organize a 24-hour, 365-day-a-year "prayer shield" over the city; all-night prayer vigils; and more.

The repetition in the Rosary is meant to lead one into restful and contemplative prayer related to each Mystery. The gentle repetition of the words helps us to enter into the silence of our hearts, where Christ's spirit dwells. The Rosary can be said privately or with a group.

Religion and spirituality in the United States have been shifting, and physicians are treating patients with increasingly diverse beliefs. Physicians' unfamiliarity with these beliefs poses critical challenges for medical education and practice. Despite efforts to improve medical education in religion/spirituality, most doctors feel their training in these areas is inadequate. This article draws on the author's conversations with providers and patients over several years in various clinical and research contexts in which religious/spiritual issues have arisen. These conversations provided insights into how patients and their families commonly, and often unexpectedly, make religious/spiritual comments to their providers or question their providers about these topics, directly or indirectly. Comments are of at least 9 types that fall within 4 broad domains: (1) perceiving God's role in disease and treatment (in causing disease, affecting treatment outcomes, and knowing disease outcomes), (2) making medical decisions (seeking God's help in making these decisions and determining types/extents of treatment), (3) interacting with providers (ascertaining providers' beliefs, having preferences regarding providers, and requesting prayer with or by providers), and (4) pondering an afterlife. Because of their beliefs or lack of knowledge, doctors face challenges in responding and often do so in 1 of 4 broad ways: (1) not commenting, (2) asking strictly medical questions, (3) referring the patient to a chaplain, or (4) commenting on the patient's remark. Medical education should thus encourage providers to recognize the potential significance of patients' remarks regarding these topics and to be prepared to respond, even if briefly, by developing appropriate responses to each statement type. Becoming aware of potential differences between key aspects of non-Western faiths (e.g., through case vignettes) could be helpful. Further research should examine in greater depth how patients broach these realms, how physicians respond, and how often medical school curricula mention non-Western traditions.

Our Father and our God, as we stand at the beginning of this new year we confess our need of Your presence and Your guidance as we face the future.

We each have our hopes and expectations for the year that is ahead of us-but You alone know what it holds for us, and only You can give us the strength and the wisdom we will need to meet its challenges. So help us to humbly put our hands into Your hand, and to trust You and to seek Your will for our lives during this coming year.

In the midst of life's uncertainties in the days ahead, assure us of the certainty of Your unchanging love.

In the midst of life's inevitable disappointments and heartaches, help us to turn to You for the stability and comfort we will need.

In the midst of life's temptations and the pull of our stubborn self-will, help us not to lose our way but to have the courage to do what is right in Your sight, regardless of the cost.

And in the midst of our daily preoccupations and pursuits, open our eyes to the sorrows and injustices of our hurting world, and help us to respond with compassion and sacrifice to those who are friendless and in need. May our constant prayer be that of the ancient Psalmist: "Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end" (Psalm 119:33).

We pray for our nation and its leaders during these difficult times, and for all those who are seeking to bring peace and justice to our dangerous and troubled world. We pray especially for Your protection on all those who serve in our armed forces, and we thank You for their commitment to defend our freedoms, even at the cost of their own lives. Be with their families also, and assure them of Your love and concern for them.

Bring our divided nation together, and give us a greater vision of what You would have us to be. Your Word reminds us that "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalm 33:12).

As we look back over this past year we thank You for Your goodness to us-far beyond what we have deserved. May we never presume on Your past goodness or forget all Your mercies to us, but may they instead lead us to repentance, and to a new commitment to make You the foundation and center of our lives this year.

And so, our Father, we thank You for the promise and hope of this new year, and we look forward to it with expectancy and faith. This I ask in the name of our Lord and Savior, who by His death and resurrection has given us hope both for this world and the world to come.

Contrary to popular portrayals and beliefs, not all forms of therapy work for all mental health issues. In fact, talk therapy can sometimes even make symptoms of OCD worse, not better. In ERP, a person is guided by a trained therapist to confront their obsessive thoughts and fears, without relying on compulsions like repetitive prayer to feel better temporarily. An ERP therapist will start low and slow. This means that a person in treatment will engage with a trigger that brings about a lower amount of fear, then work up to triggers that are likely to cause a great deal of fear.
