Wildfires are unplanned, often burn out of control and their smoke impacts can be widespread and unpredictable. By contrast, prescribed fires are highly managed, less intense, smaller and slower-moving than wildfires. For these reasons, they produce less smoke, but can sometimes impact nearby communities. Because of the careful planning in designing each prescribed burn, the app can help ensure that nearby communities have an opportunity to prepare for possible smoke impacts.

Some research suggests that smoking cessation apps may help some people quit smoking, but there is significant inconsistency in the studies evaluating these tools. Your adherence to using the app may be what makes the most difference. If you feel as though you will not follow through, it's best to choose an app that includes a motivational component, community forum, or coaching aspect. Smoking cessation apps may be best used as a tool to complement other evidence-based treatments.

If you relapse while using a stop smoking app, it's best to use the app features designed for this situation. Some apps may require you to restart your "quit date," while others may allow you to enter your "slip-up." If you feel as though starting over will undermine your motivation, try to choose an app that allows for mistakes without having to reset your progress.

My understanding of a smoke test is that its a quick series of function tests that can be used to determine if the app has started up correctly and that its major subsystems are all online. For a web app, this might be to go to a health check URL and make sure that the app is up, and that it can reach all of its dependent subsystems (its database, its message broker, etc.).

If all you need is a bit of light touch support our missions are for you. Missions are short, fun, tasks given daily during the first month of your quit, then less frequently thereafter. Missions are designed to boost your motivation and self-confidence, help you deal with cravings and withdrawal, and come to see yourself as a proud non-smoker. They work too, a study found that like the chatbot, the missions doubled quit rates in users.

Smoke Sense is a crowdsourcing, citizen science research project developed by EPA researchers focused on increasing public awareness and engagement related to wildfire smoke health risks. Specifically, EPA wants to understand the extent that exposure to wildland fire smoke affects health and productivity, discover what steps people are willing to take to reduce their exposure, and develop health risk communication strategies that improve public health when there is wildfire smoke.

Smoke Sense is a research project that enables citizen scientists to engage with a mobile phone application to explore current and forecast maps of air quality, learn about how to protect health from wildfire smoke, and record their smoke experiences, health symptoms, and behaviors taken to reduce their exposures to smoke.

The Smoke Sense community grows in response to large wildfire smoke events. During smoke events, Smoke Sense helps citizen scientists understand where smoke is coming from, what it means for their health, and what actions they can take to reduce their exposure.

The graphic below shows the cumulative number of citizen scientists using Smoke Sense since the launch of the pilot study in August 2017. The graphic shows noticeable increases in participation during large wildfire smoke events, such as the Mendocino Complex Fire in August 2018 and the Camp Fire in November 2018.

Smoke Sense citizen scientists report health symptoms and actions taken to reduce their exposure or address their health. The graphic below shows the range of health symptoms reported when impacted by smoke, immediately and in weeks following the exposure.

Actions participants have taken when they experience smoke are also shown. The rings reveal the portion of all reported symptoms or actions that fall in each category. Note that each report can contain multiple symptoms.

The interface is clean and modern in design and full of useful statistics, such as how much time has passed since a person quit smoking, how much money they have saved, and the number of cigarettes that they have not smoked.

Shaking the phone displays motivational messages to help keep people on track. Kwit logs cigarettes that people may occasionally smoke. However, if a person does smoke a cigarette, their score on the app resets.

Smoke Free tracks how much money a person has saved, how long they have been smoke-free, and how many cigarettes they have avoided. As people experience cravings, they can record them, get tips on how to avoid them, and use the Smoke Free tools to work out the patterns behind them.

A bright dashboard details the number of smoke-free days, the number of cigarettes people have not smoked, and the total money they have saved. The app includes many extras, such as up-to-date smoking news, 40-Fact cards, and smoking galleries.

Upgrading to the premium version turns off the ads, adds a home screen widget, and increases the virtual rewards that people can achieve. Quit Tracker could be useful for an ex-smoker who would like to see positive motivational facts to keep them from restarting smoking.

Quit It Lite is a motivational app that aims to support and encourage people to stop smoking and stay smoke-free. The basic and straightforward interface allows people to input their smoking habits and costs per pack to view metrics on the cigarettes they have not smoked and the dollars they have saved.

Butt Out tracks cravings and presents real-time progress through the use of a graph and health improvement indicators. The app provides encouragement not to give up if people miss their targets or smoke a cigarette. It also displays motivational pictures and quotes.

Transdermal patches provide the body with nicotine at a sustained and steady rate. People can choose different strengths depending on how many cigarettes they smoke and the severity of their withdrawal symptoms.

Other NRT options deliver an acute amount of nicotine to the body. These fast-acting products may be more beneficial for people who are experiencing more intense withdrawal symptoms. More intense symptoms can lead to a person continuing to smoke or ending a period of abstinence.

About 30.8 million adults in the U.S. currently smoke cigarettes, and more than 16 million are living with a smoking-related illness. Smoking damages almost every organ in the body and increases the risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, lung cancer, and several other types of cancer.

Background: Smartphone applications (apps) are popular aids for smoking cessation. Smoke Free is an app that delivers behaviour change techniques used in effective face-to-face behavioural support programmes. The aim of this study was to assess whether the full version of Smoke Free is more effective than the reduced version. Methods: This was a two-arm exploratory randomised controlled trial. Smokers who downloaded Smoke Free were randomly offered the full or reduced version; 28,112 smokers aged 18+ years who set a quit date were included. The full version provided updates on benefits of abstinence, progress (days smoke free), virtual 'badges' and daily 'missions' with push notifications aimed at preventing and managing cravings. The reduced version did not include the missions. At baseline the app recorded users': device type (iPhone or Android), age, sex, daily cigarette consumption, time to first cigarette of the day, and educational level. The primary outcome was self-reported complete abstinence from the quit date in a 3-month follow-up questionnaire delivered via the app. Analyses conducted included logistic regressions of outcome on to app version (full versus reduced) with adjustment for baseline variables using both intention-to-treat/missing-equals smoking (MES) and follow-up-only (FUO) analyses. Results: The 3-month follow-up rate was 8.5% (n=1,213) for the intervention and 6.5% (n=901) for the control. A total of 234 participants reported not smoking in the intervention versus 124 in the control, representing 1.6% versus 0.9% in the MES analysis and 19.3% versus 13.8% in the FUO analysis. Adjusted odds ratios were 1.90, 95%CI=1.53-2.37 (p

Just complaining for the sake of complaining, but why does it seem like everyone on dating apps smokes weed?? I'm not a fan of substances in general but weed especially is an ick for me because my dad's a massive stoner lol.

I would add smoked deviled eggs to this list. I boil the eggs then peel them. Smoke the eggs for approx 20-30 mins then make deviled eggs like normal. I use my own rub mix that has no sugar in it to season the yolk mixture.

For weeks, smoke has blanketed the west coast. The Bay Area has seen a vast improvement in the past few days, but terrible air lingers in Portland and Seattle. Millions of people have been furiously checking the air quality ratings in their neighborhood regularly. On the worst days, in some places the Air Quality Index (AQI) measured 600. Readings over 150 trigger emergency health warnings if a person is exposed for 24 hours. For many, the only way to confront the smoke- and ash-filled days was with the help of AQI apps.

I have been using the Nest app. I have cameras, thermostats and smoke detectors at multiple houses. I just bought a new 2nd generation camera. It required google home. I added the camera to google home:

A good friend of mine just built a new townhome. He installed a ring doorbell, ring camera, security, water/freeze and smoke/CO2 detectors throughout his home. The camera resolution is higher than Nest. Everything works in a single app. 006ab0faaa
