No garden remains static from day to day, week to week, month to month, and year to year. Every day you walk the garden looking for photo ops provides a one-time opportunity to capture something you may never see again.

The biggest problem you may have is how to organize the many photos in some meaningful way. With about 9,000 pictures of plants, gardens, past and present, I have yet to satisfactorily solve that. But the camera will keep on clicking!

Throughout the garden, there are a bunch of red brick structures and walkways. I love the look of these in pictures! The color and texture of the bricks gives a really good look. And they do a great job complimenting the plants and flowers ?

Dear Margaret

You SO live in the garden of Eden. I loved your slides and wish that I could magically step into the one with your spring ephemerals under the old apple tree. it is just so breathtakingly beautiful! You are a wizard!

I am really enjoying your blog and have been perusing your older posts; your home and garden just Wow me!!

It is so nice to see that I am not the only person dragging all sorts of tidbits from the outdoors to bring inside. Pretty soon there will be no distinction between the two!

I just had to say thak-you for sharing your piece of heaven on earth after seeing your wonderful photos.

It is very inspiring.

I love your chairs outside, too!

Sincerely, Wendy C

Welcome, Stephen from Dallas. Yes, our old gardening friends are here with me, gradually showing up season by season. Glad to have you along, and hear of your backyard adventures. See you soon again, I hope.

The Honolulu Botanical Gardens offer five garden sites for weddings and other gatherings. These beautiful settings created by our tropical plant collections are home to many rare and endangered plants from around the world. Likewise, our visitors come from around the world to view these highly valued collections. The following permit guidelines help protect the many cherished plants growing here and maintain the tranquil atmosphere enjoyed by our visitors. We appreciate your cooperation in observing these guidelines.

Behind the garden gate the side vegetable garden {which is heavily shaded} is doing well. We harvested a cabbage and some Swiss chard this week and I am starting to see beet seedlings pop through the soil.

Hanging pictures in combination with plates can make for a punchier arrangement than pictures alone. In the bathroom of his Worcestershire house, Farrow & Ball brand ambassador Patrick O'Donnell has hung Spanish lebrillo plates from Brownrigg Interiors in Tetbury at either side of two small landscape paintings.

Every bit of wall space in Violet Dent's London flat has been used to display pictures, prints and paintings soured from all manner of places. There is no rhyme or reason to it, it's simply a gloriously eclectic gallery wall across the entire flat.

This graceful drawing room in the Cotswolds is blessed with light thanks to a large bay window overlooking the garden. Architect Robert Hardwick designed the panelling, which is painted in Farrow & Ball's 'Old White'. Antique textiles and paintings enhance the airy feel. The house in its present form is only 20 years old, the result of hard work and imagination on the part of the owners and Robert, who is an expert in Costwolds vernacular.

Colefax and Fowler's Emma Burns combines pictures of all shapes and sizes over the fireplace of Alexandra Tolstoy's cottage for a charming, higgledy-piggledy look that works wonderfully with the cosy feel of the room.

Maps look fantastic in frames. This huge example in a Dartmoor house by designer Guy Goodfellow has been neatly cut into sections spanning floor to ceiling, taking on a similar look to a mural or finely patterned wallpaper. Symmetry is key to getting this look right. Make sure the gaps between your pictures are scrupulously even.

After their intimate first look, we walked the gardens and just had a great time photographing these two! Even though Lauren and Emmett are laid back and know how to make each other laugh, their sweet and romantic, too.

Once a best-kept secret, Petitti Garden Centers is now a premiere destination in Northeast Ohio for pictures with Santa. Our beautiful stores, combined with whimsical scenery and exceptional service, create a truly magical moment. We looking forward to sharing the season with you!

Thank you for these tips. Some moments the garden and/or my pots just shout out loud with beauty or an amazing combo of colors or any one of amazing qualities. I grab my iPhone and photo. But I don't really understand the info on "optimal sizes for posting on social media". How can I set or control those with an iPhone? I also appreciate the tip on overcast lighting...I also thought that a sunny day would be best.

The Lake Harriet Rose Gardens in Minneapolis, is one of my favorite places to photographing during the morning hours. The grounds have just been maintained, it is easy to get to, and it is never too busy during in the morning. The morning sun that peaks through the gardens is so beautiful in the morning and you can never go wrong with a cloudy morning at this location.

Global tourism has reached an all time high and nature photography in botanic gardens has also grown tremendously over the years. This is wonderful for the gardens, as it brings increased revenue to support the gardens and helps further educate the public about the importance of nature and the environment. Many botanic gardens do important scientific research aimed at understanding and protecting the plants so important to us. The green space gives us all a place to de-stress, unwind and be in nature. The beauty and inspiration of a garden is there for everyone that visits to enjoy, making it important that we all do our part to preserve that beauty and do no harm.

Most photographers I have worked with and most visitors to gardens show great respect for the gardens. I have on occasions; however, witnessed behavior that dumbfounded me. As gardens have more visitors, the incidents have grown.

As someone who has done much of my nature photography in a botanic garden, I have come to know the staff and horticulturists that work at the garden where I photograph most often, Chicago Botanic Garden. I am fortunate to live very close to this garden. The close proximity makes it a wonderful place for me to capture the beauty of nature. By taking the time to develop those relationships and learn from the staff, my respect for their dedicated work has grown deeply through the years and led me to understand that no photograph is worth damaging the careful work they do. Horticulturists are passionate about what they do and are eager to share that passion with visitors. Learning more about the subjects we photograph only serves to deepen our relationship with and respect for our subjects and, I believe, is reflected in our work.

I have had many discussions with garden staff and horticulturists about what we can do as nature photographers to be respected and seen as an asset to the garden, rather than a nuisance. With those discussions and some research into various garden guidelines for nature photography, I have compiled the following list:

By following these simple nature photography guidelines, we improve the relationship photographers have with the gardens they visit. In addition, we alleviate the need for tigher guidelines which would limit our access to opportunities to photograph. Gardens compose these guidelines with the nature photographer in mind. Portrait and wedding photographers observe other guidelines while doing photoshoots within botanic gardens.

The Sun Picture Gardens (also known as Sun Pictures) is the world's oldest picture gardens still in operation. It is located in Broome, Western Australia.[1] Unlike most outdoor cinemas, it screens multiple films per night; the majority of outdoor cinemas screen one or two films a week.[2]

Is Longwood Gardens accessible for people with mobility or physical disabilities?

Yes, our Gardens are easily accessible to guests with mobility or physical disabilities. There are 45 spaces reserved for accessible parking at the front of the Parking Lot near the Visitor Center. Most restrooms and drinking fountains are wheelchair accessible. The Main Fountain Garden Overlook, The Conservatory and The Terrace are equipped with elevators, and some of the doors in the Visitor Center, Conservatory, and The Terrace are automated. Most garden paths are wide and paved, and a wheelchair route is suggested on our map. While most of the route is level or gently sloping, a few areas are more steeply graded but manageable with an able-bodied assistant. The Lookout Loft is the only accessible treehouse. The Chimes Tower and portions of the Peirce-du Pont House are not wheelchair accessible.

Etiquette

Your photography, videography and/or art may not interfere with other guests' enjoyment or block paths. We encourage our guests to take casual photographs and videos of their visit for their own personal use and sharing on social media. Professional and amateur photo shoots (i.e., engagement, family, maternity, wedding, birthday, prom, and similar events) are permitted only in the outdoor gardens, but never indoors, including the Conservatory and Peirce-du Pont House. Equipment, props, or signs that cannot be carried by one individual in their hands are not permitted. Any prop, apparel/attire or sign deemed controversial or offensive in nature will not be permitted. Longwood does not have a place to store personal belongings. Please come to the Gardens prepared for your shoot. Hair, makeup and elaborate wardrobe changes are not permitted in our gardens or public restrooms. There are certain items that are not permitted inside the Gardens. Please review the list prior to visiting to avoid disappointment.

Are tripods, monopods, and easels allowed in the Gardens?

Tripods, monopods, and artist easels may be used in the outdoor gardens at any time with exceptions noted below. Small rolled or carried portable chairs and equipment carts are also permitted. Large scale equipment carts and stand-alone equipment (i.e., light stands and reflectors) are not permitted. 2351a5e196
