I have noticed that not all uploaded photos are being shown under 'Photos' when I log into dropbox via a browser. The missing photos appear to be random and they are all .jpg files. (I see no correlation with file size etc.) The .jpg files are present if I look for them in the relevant folder. If i use the dropbox app on my iphone or ipad then they appear under 'photos' as expected. The issue only seems to be when i access dropbox via a browser.

The photos folder is the old way of sharing photos with Dropbox. Basically, the idea was you could go to www.dropbox.com/photos_folder and see & share nice photo galleries. The simple idea was that each folder within the photos folder was automatically mapped to a gallery.

This feature has been deprecated, and probably won't be around much longer (i.e. the photos folder will be treated just like any other regular folder). Instead, you should use the photos tab (www.dropbox.com/photos), which shows all the photos in your Dropbox, no matter which folder they are in. Also, sharing is now not restricted to being everything in a particular folder - you can share any set of pictures you want from the photos tab, without having to worry about where they are in your Dropbox (This also means that if you want to share two overlapping sets of photos with different people, there is no need to duplicate the common images). It's still possible to share any folder with anyone - just use the "get link" feature (which works for all filetypes, not just images) - and if that folder is full of images, the resulting page is a photo gallery (with the new & better design).

Google's auto-upload will upload the video, in whatever quality your phone supports, and post it to Google Drive as well so you can share it with others or post it to YouTube.

To be fair, getting your photos back from Google+ Photos isn't difficult; you can download individuals or whole galleries at once with a few clicks. Plus, they're still on your phone, where you can just sync them to your computer. However, it's clear that Google wants you to stay in its playground and share your photos out from there.

Google Drive/Google+ is ideal if you want a service that will both host your photos and help you edit, tweak, and organize those photos all from the same interface. You get pretty solid editing controls, and Google's "Auto Awesome" features actually do improve your photos. The trouble with Google however is that sharing photos is locked in to Google+, which may or may not be a good thing. If you need more space, need editing tools, and like using Google+, Google is the way to go.

First, install the new version of Dropbox. Then right-click the Dropbox icon in the System tray and select Preferences. You should see a section that says Import photos and videos using Dropbox. Click the link to Change Autoplay Settings. In the AutoPlay window, look for the devices that you want to include in the automatic upload, such as your camera, phone, or tablet.
