"We heard that people want to send and receive high resolution photos in Messenger," reads the release from Facebook, "and considering people send more than 17 billion photos through Messenger every month, we're making your conversations richer, sharper, and better than ever."

Not really - I use the messenger quite often to send downsized photos to myself to review them on my cellphone after PP on my desktop - fb changes often color saturation and especially contrast of posted photos; so before I post such photo on fb, I check how it looks via messenger.

Ah and I also forgot, by uploading, you grant them the right to give third parties licences to use your photos. So your photo becomes worthless as FB could sell or give it freely away to others for commercial use. Why should they pay you if they can get a royalty free sub-license from facebook?

@Scottelly: yes, but I learned my lesson after I had photos stolen from me after posting to social networks. So....I cannot avoid that people download and save shared photos, but I can make it difficult to reuse them without my permission. Another reason for me is that fb keeps the right to "own" posted photos - again, making a photo less attractive for copycats is the best protection.

@RedFox88: the photos were stolen from Flickr (not fb!) and then published on commercial sites as examples to sell camera gear without my permission (they were removed later after I found out about it). Since then I downsize and watermark all my photos which I post online. Yes, there is still a remaining risk, but at least I make it not easy for the copycats.

@Roman Korcek: I wrote this in a comment above, so I just copy it here since it replies to your comment: I use the messenger quite often to send downsized photos to myself to review them on my cellphone after PP on my desktop - fb changes often color saturation and especially contrast of posted photos; so before I post such photo on fb, I check how it looks via messenger.

I disabled the default sony album when i first got the sony zx, without having the option of albums inside the app I find it impossible to save photos in an organised manner. I have always used quickpics on all my sony phones. My sony z3 and z5 never had this issue with attaching photos in fb messenger.

Many here rely on facebook for sharing/selling 360 content as it is the biggest platfrom supporting both photos and videos in that format.

One of the latest attempts by Facebook and Instagram owner Meta at synergy between the sites is a prompt to encourage automatic cross-posting from Instagram to Facebook. Unfortunately, some users don't know they've allowed the cross-posting and are surprised to see their Instagram photos showing up on their Facebook profiles.
