The Chevron Maker Annex is a place for children to design, construct and showcase their work through both pre-paid and drop-in workshops. All workshops are designed to expose participants to a handful of tools and materials, from hand tools to 3D printers and laser cutters. The space encourages kid makers to tap into their creative potential with access to real tools and high-tech resources.

In the Chevron Maker Annex, a maker is someone who creates products by combining a variety of materials and sharing what they have learned with others. Our workshops begin by introducing various engineering concepts. The topics in the workshops focus on everything from electricity to structural integrity. After an interactive lesson, visitors are challenged to create products based on a prompt, which encourages learning through self-exploration.

What is the maker movement? It's do-it-yourself, it's craft, it's handmade, plus all the tools the 21st century can offer us. It's sewn, felted, rapid-prototyped, hewn, laser-cut, hand-finished and microchip-controlled.

We supply the tools and expertise to empower novice and experienced makers in three dedicated, on-campus makerspaces: the 7th Street Studio & Makerspace, the Maker-E and Mooney Innovation Laboratory. These makerspaces at Bucknell are open to all faculty, staff and students, and all have extended hours to support making day and night.

The Maker-E is a creative space for learning about and working on electronics, programming and similar projects. Located in the Dana Engineering Building, this makerspace is open on a 24/7 basis to anyone at Bucknell who has registered to use the space.

The Maker Lab launched in July 2013 as a six-month experiment to explore the role of the library in makerspaces, community-operated workspaces where people come together to learn, create and collaborate. Due to the overwhelmingly positive community response, we chose to keep the Maker Lab open and continue to offer exciting new workshops.
