Work around is to use Citrix. My employer also has a web interface for which the secure id is also accepted to log in. This can be done over tethered android connection and then Citrix software supplied by employer also most all access I would otherwise get using normal VPN. Not a great solution, but it is workable.

the purpose of PDANet's Wireless Direct Hotspot feature on the android device is to handle all of the internet traffic to and from the laptop over the WiFi Direct capabilities in the android device, not just create a normal wifi direct connection for only sending files.

I've used an android smartphone for tethering over a usb line to the laptop with no limitations I was aware of, and wifi is also supposed to be supported out of the box by my device, with no need for extra apps to be installed. (What are the T-Mobile's "mobile hotspot" limitations?) Maybe try a net search on ' wifi tethering linux'?

all of the alternatives to PDANet+ (as far as android apps go) that i have tried only turn on the phone's regular built in hotspot feature and dont do what i need. i dont have the skill or knowledge to do it any other way.

You have to keep in mind that this is a short-range network designed to cover emergencies. That is why you will have to put your android close to the device that is going to receive the Internet connection.

*T-Mobile or MetroPCS users can only use USB mode with "Hide Tether Usage" enabled in PdaNet. This will break Netflix however.

*If your phone is not recognized by your computer after connecting USB, please see pdanet.co/driver

*Please treat Windows tablets (non RT) the same as Windows PC.

*To get around lockdowns on WiFi mode FoxFi may prompt you to install a certificate on your phone, this will cause the Android system to enforce a screen lock and show a security message in notification. For more detail and steps to remove screen lock please visit pdanet.co/wifi.

*If you receive a message asking for a "password for credential strorage" this is due to a bug in the Android system. Please see steps to clear this message at pdanet.co/wifi

Update: After continuing questions here is more information about this problem. He was using his android phone for his internet connection, he is still able to surf the internet and stream videos. This problem with not being able to connect with Global VPN client on his computer started after an update of the Android OS. He was originally using foxfi that is now broke due to the update
