Perhaps I shoulda looked at this thread first.

Upgrade because I couldn't get 98 to recognise my Digital Camera on the USB ports.

Now that works fine with W2K but surprise surprise the effin' modem won't work.

I have a Via Technologies mobo and an internal Askey Comp Corp PCI modem

It was previously working fine with the standard Conexant drivers on 98 but neither these or the 'Pucker' ones downloaded from Askey seem to work with W2K.

What in heavens name is the PCI Simple Communications Controller and what does it do?

Theres a pint in it for anyone with the correct annswer.

Hi, I have a solution. If you go in device manager, click on the pci simple communications controller, go in property and then go in details. You will see a code like per example PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS...

In my case the pci simple communications controller was a Microsoft UAA Bus HD audio. I also had another pci device that didn't work properly, using the same method I found out that my pci device was an HSF PCI internal modem with code number CX11252-11. I had a hard time downloading one of the drivers, after 6 or 7 times the download started so be patient if you have the same hardware.

In contrast to all these papers, the focus of this work is on co-design of real-time control and wireless communications. But adaptation of the sampling periods of control loops is not considered. Through studying the impact of varying fading wireless channels on control performance, Mostofi and Murray [5] suggested that the controller parameters should be dynamically adapted with respect to channel conditions. An offline approach to optimize the stationary performance of a linear control system by jointly allocating communication resources and tuning parameters of the controller is presented in [20]. Different methods for adapting sampling periods at runtime have been developed in e.g. [10,11,21]. All these methods are based on algorithms with fixed parameters. Consequently, the effects of varying channel conditions such as changes in network transmission rates are not attacked. In our recent work [3,4,9], we presented several design methods for control systems over wireless networks. An integrated framework that adjusts the maximum number of allowable data retransmission attempts and tunes the controller parameters is given in [22]. Different approaches to dynamic bandwidth allocation through dynamically adjusting sampling periods are presented in [23,24] for wireline networked control systems. Additionally, almost all existing solutions for online sampling period adjustment are time triggered.

If you want the user interface to wait while each operation is performed, then having methods which simply perform operations directly but don't keep any state may be the simplest way of going about it. Such an approach is simple, and generally makes it easy to tell what's going on.
