I have an old Windows 7 Toshiba Tecra A9 with a locked BIOS which won't let me boot off anything but the internal hard drive. I sadly lost the BIOS password a long time ago. I am however administrator on this machine. Is it possible somehow to replace windows by linux in such a situation?

I had exactly the same - bought the card in Nov 2020, worked perfectly and suddenly in Feb 2021 it exactly behaved the way you described. I tried several things, installing a fresh windows installation onto a new SSD, put it into another mainboard, changed power supply, etc... - nothing worked - after installing drivers and updates of Win10 it always freezed booting up Windows.

I've used malwarebytes products for years and I'll get straight to the point. I ran adw cleaner on my windows 10 hp notebook 15 laptop. As it was closing it asked me if I wanted to save work in one of my files, I went back and closed the file and then right clicked on the start menu and chose restart. It then sat on restarting for a while so I did a hard reset with the power button. When it powered up it took me to a language menu where I could access bios settings, I could never get to a boot menu. I ended up trying to remove the cmos battery and in the process destroyed the actual hardware on my laptop. Second computer I ran adw cleaner and again it took a while to restart and then when it did it came up with the hp logo and the spinning dots continue forever. I eventually hard reset it after a long time. Now when it starts up I have similar problems where I can't access really anything, it freezes when I click advanced trouble shooting, not the mouse, and that's the screen I would need to restore to factory settings. I pressed f2 and ran a quick hardware diagnostics test and it says short dst hard drive failure. Seems as though my hard drive has failed now. This seriously needs to be fixed, I understand the first hard reset on my laptop may have caused a problem but the exact same long restart and infinite loop happened on the second computer which seems to have failed now. This seriously needs to be fixed.

Ill try and explain again what happened. Similar things have happened in the past like if I were to schedule an avast boot time scan and also have adwcleaner restart I remember having problems although I can't remember specifics.

I ran adwcleaner on my laptop, clicked restart, it asked me if I wanted to save a notepad so I went back and saved it and then went to the start menu and clicked restart. It sat at the restarting page for a few minutes so I decided to press the power button. It then started up with the logo saying please wait, then I chose my keyboard set up and it brought me to the system recovery environment. I tried clicking start up repair and it would attempt repairs and then say failed. There was some other glitchy things happening, I was trying to get into safe mode but the key that would open the boot menu was not working. I ended up backing up my Important files to a USB through one of the recovery options.long story short I tried to find the cmos battery and ended up loosing something to where it would beep 3 times in a row, lopped, when I tried to start it without a display. One of the arms to the ram broke off and then the other arm broke off later on. On the second computer I ran the scan, clicked restart on adwcleaner and then it sat at the restarting page just like the other one and then ended up restarting. From there it came up with the logo and the dots spinning indefinitely. Anything after this point took hours to complete. It would say diagnosing for hours and then maybe attempting to repair before it would say failed, restart or shut down. I tried rolling back the Bios as well as disconnecting the ac power and holding the power button. I remember trying to launch the boot menu and nothing came of it. I found out that if I pressed f11 the recovery would come up after a little while and then if I pressed trouble shoot it would freeze and take 3 hours to get to the next page. Same thing for trying to use a device in that menu, would freeze. I tried to go into safe mode and that failed. I eventually used the option to factory reset which took hours to complete.

I don't know much about any of it but from my experience over the last couple days and from having similar issues in the last - adwcleaners restarting needs to be looked at. The second computer got put into an indefinite loop and the first one I suspect would have had problems as well even if I didn't restart it.

I looked up many ways to fix my acer r3-131t, and all of them said to take out my cmos battery for 5-10 minutes and I did for 5 tries now. I even tried just running my computer without it, but the bios is still the same! My problem with the bios is that everything is greyed out even the load default setup button and I don't know what to do at this point. One day I pushed my power button expecting windows to boot, and nothing happened, instead I had the Windows Boot screen (the loading dots thing) frozen, I thought it was weird, so I tried troubleshooting, so I restarted and entered bios to access to the troubleshooting reboot menu of windows, there I verified the OS files, tried a few things, safely ofc, and when it rebooted, it worked.

Expecting it to fail again, I made a save of all the files that were on the nvMe on my HDD just in case, then performed a clean reinstall (Win10), (the windows installer froze 2 times and I had to restart it, worked on third try), everything worked fine so I put the RAM back in, it worked again, so I kept updating drivers and had to restart a few times for that, and as expected, it failed after 2 or 3 restarts as I was updating everything.
