The descriptions of each video give you some context for each track and Pascal Michael Stiefel also replies to comments, with two comments giving a little insight into the development of the game and his music, with one reply to the 'Empress Conflict' track letting us know that the track was made before it was settled on what sound/theme Nyakuza Metro was going to have. So it seems that The Empress was created before Nyakuza Metro even had a sound/theme, which I found interesting, as I find it hard to imagine The Empress in an environment that isn't a futuristic looking neon environment.

It's replies like that, that make me think that we'll find out more things about 'A Hat in Time' in the future that we didn't already know, along with getting a musical insight into the original ideas for things we've come to know and love about the game and its various worlds.

Adam Pascal (born October 25, 1970) is an American actor, singer, and musician, known for his performance as Roger Davis in the original 1996 cast of Jonathan Larson's musical Rent on Broadway, the 2005 movie version of the musical, and the Broadway tour of Rent in 2009. He is also known for originating the role of Radames in Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida, for playing the Emcee in the 1998 revival of Cabaret, and for playing Huey Calhoun in the Broadway company of Memphis. More recently, he played William Shakespeare in the Tony Award-winning musical Something Rotten![1]

Pascal was born in The Bronx, New York, and grew up in Woodbury, Nassau County, New York, with his mother, Wendy (ne Frishman), and stepfather, Mel Seamon.[2][3] He was raised Jewish.[4] He graduated from Syosset High School.[5] He then graduated from New York Institute of Technology.[6] Before his interest in music, he was a personal trainer. Although he began as a rock musician playing in a number of bands (such as Mute) formed with his schoolmates, Pascal became drawn to musical theater.

The role helped Pascal gain fame on Broadway, and he was cast in the Elton John and Tim Rice musical Aida as the Egyptian general Radames with the original and final casts[7] (former Rent castmate Idina Menzel would co-star as Amneris in 2001), and Kander and Ebb's Cabaret, appearing in the show as the Emcee (closing cast).[8] He also participated in several charity performances, including Chess in 2003 (playing the American, Freddie Trumper),[9] Hair in 2004 (singing "I Got Life"),[10] and the 24 Hour Plays in 2005.[11] He returned to Aida in 2004 to close the run of the show as Radames.[12][13]

As of 2009 and later,[update] Pascal is developing a theatrical stage version of the classic 1988 concept album, Operation: Mindcrime by the progressive metal band, Queensrche. The band is one of Pascal's musical influences, and has fully endorsed his efforts.[32]

Pascal made his film debut in SLC Punk! (1999) and also appeared in School of Rock (2003) and Temptation (2004). The audio for Temptation, a musical, was recorded live on set during filming.

From a very young age, I had beautiful opportunities to travel the world via my music and to learn so much about life by observing people all over the planet. I understood that music is an ideal means of transport. Later, I also learned that I meet exceptional people via traveling with music. I became addicted to this cocktail and cannot help it anymore.

As a performing musician success is when I get the feeling after a concert that the magic happened and that I was able to allow my audience to completely let go for a while. As a composer I feel successful when musicians like to play my music and keep on whistling little bits of it for the rest of the day.

As a composer/producer, I believe the end result is not the score or the performance, but the recording (and sometimes the music video). There are many creative choices that influence a piece of music that transcend page and performance. I believe every stage of the production process is a part of composing the music.

The Rock typifies the bigger-is-better film scoring sensibilities that defined Hollywood in the mid-'90s -- with its bombastic electronics, constant bass, and eruptions of dissonance, the music is an overwhelming sensory experience, and virtually impossible to absorb over the course of a single sitting.

Recently, Pascal has enjoyed playing recitals for four-hands/two-pianos with his partner in life and in music, Ami Rog. Together, they have travelled the world appearing at prestigious festivals and concert halls and recorded several CDs .

This chapter will introduce you on how to load music and sounds since these are key features of every game and many applications. An easy way to play music (.wav, .mod, .mid, .ogg, .mp3) and sound files (.wav, .aif, .ogg, .voc) is the usage of an additional unit called SDL_MIXER. This unit is maintained by the same author which also provides the core SDL library, Sam Lantinga and the co-authors Stephane Peter and Ryan Gordon. Fortunately the JEDI-SDL team translated this unit so it is available for Pascal programmers.

In this demo we just want to demonstrate the music/sound abilities of SDL so we only initialize the audio subsystem by SDL_INIT_AUDIO. Similar to the initilization of the graphic system we then have to set up the audio system by the function MIX_OPENAUDIO(parameters). The four paramteters needed we already defined and discussed above. The function will return 0 on error.

Similarly sounds are played. Contrary to music which has its own seperated channel, sounds have up to eight channels (channel numbers 0 to 7) where they can be played at. This means you can have up to eight sounds that play at the same time and can be heard at the same time! As for music files you have to say which sound you want to play and how often but additionally you have to say at which channel you want it to play. The function is MIX_PLAYCHANNEL(paramters) which returns the channel number the sound is played on or -1 on error. The first parameter is the channel you want the music to be played. -1 means the first free channel will be chosen automatically. What will happen when all channels are used but a further sound is going to be played? One playing sound will be stopped and the new sound will be played on this channel. The next two parameters are the same as for music, the sound pointer and the integer how often the sound will be played.

The commands MIX_HALTMUSIC and MIX_HALTCHANNEL(channel number) are used to stop playing the music/sound immediatly. As for surfaces the msuic/sound files have to be freed when they are not used anymore. The functions MIX_FREEMUSIC(music pointer) and MIX_FREECHUNK(sound pointer) are used for this. Finally the audiosystem and SDL have to be shut down by MIX_CLOSEAUDIO and SDL_QUIT.
