I'm playing with a new document, and in some artistic text objects where I'm using Papryus, I can't get it to display as bold. With the few other fonts I've tried, I can just select the text and Ctrl-B (or select Bold instead of Regular) but this doesn't work (and bold isn't an option) w/ Papyrus.

Could this be a problem of your screen? Could you make a test using other applications with the same fonts and font size?

If the problem can be identified as a LibO issue, please file a bug report under:

This problem appears to relate either to the MacOS build of LO or the MacOS-provided copy of Papyrus TTC (which includes Regular and Condensed) v6.1d10e1 (i.e., the MacOS 10.6.8 version, dated 2009-01-09). The Apple font is generally better than the Microsoft-provided one. However in this case using LO v4.2.0.4 I am seeing the same thing as the OP:

Papyrus is a roman calligraphic typeface with distinctive human touches like rough edges, irregular curves, and high horizontal strokes in the caps. It imparts a warm and friendly ambience to everything from restaurant menus to book covers. American Chris Costello created the popular font Papyrus in 1983 and counts it as one of his proudest accomplishments. In addition to designing type, Costello is a prolific graphic designer, illustrator, and web designer.

One thing that could happen is if the object you are selecting is in a group with another object then path> convert to path will not work, that might be the issue you were having? If so right click and break group a few times till you can. But beyond that there are no fonts on inkscape that will work without that conversion on the dashboard as far as i know.

It has been a while since I loaded a file with text created within Inkscape to the GFUI, and never had the problem with it being lost because it was a font in the GF Text library. Was usually error because of forgetting to convert the text to path & turning the outline off and the fill on (to get an engrave and not a cut!)

if loaded is true then the font was correctly loaded and it will register with batik/fop and render correctly.Note that the font.cfg.xml (from my question) still needs to be present and the path of the font needs to match the regitered font.

2. Unlike Word processors, bold is not an available option when editing text in Nitro. For example, if you are using Calibri and you want to make a section bold, you have to swap to the 'Calibri-Bold' font. To do this, click on the Edit tool, then select the text. The format tab will appear and here you can change the font type using the dropdown menu. Kindly refer to the screenshot attached.

Thanks for your help, but I downloaded the latest build as you suggested, and unfortunately, the Montserrat fonts still do not appear. I ran a Support Tools Report and see the fonts that I want at the bottom of the fonts list (see below),

Fonts and typefaces were more easily differentiated before the widespread adoption of desktop publishing software, when a font was understood to mean a specific member of a type family such as italic or bold. For example Papyrus regular, Papyrus italic and Papyrus bold are all different fonts within the typeface, Papyrus.

In common usage today, a font is a complete character set of a single size and style of a typeface. If you have used any sort of office software, such as a word processor or spreadsheet program, you are likely familiar with several types of fonts, such as Helvetica, Verdana, or Comic Sans (which is despised by professional graphic artists).

Computer-based typesetting began around 1973 when hybrids of photocomposition machines and digital output came together. Many of these machines were programmed with proprietary command languages to allow communication between output devices. Because none of these machines used a widely used command language, each machine output fonts in different ways, which was not optimal

The weight of a specific font is the thickness of the strokes of the characters. Fonts will appear lighter or darker depending on the weight of the typeface. Most typefaces have around 2-6 weight variances while others may have as many as 12 ranging in variances from ultra-light to extra-bold.

With the widespread use of computers today, professional type designers, web designers, and even hobbyists are using many types of font creation software to create their own fonts. The first commercial font editing software was actually released in the mid-80s for the Apple Macintosh, called Fontastic. Since then, many more font creation programs have become available, such as the very popular Fontlab Studio, and Fontographer.

There are various other popular font design programs available in addition to the high-end programs mentioned above such as Typelight, FontForge, FontCreator, Typetool, FontStruct, and FontExplorer. Many of these programs are available on both Mac and PC and are offered at various levels of expertise.

The content descriptions are preceded by a letter in bold font, indicating the literary genre it belongs to. In the case of collections of texts of various kinds, the first letter refers to the most important text on the papyrus.

Papyrus is one of those fonts that are far too popular for their own good. I cannot for instance recount the number of times it is being (mis)used for copyright notices or titles in digital pictures. Some people even use it for PowerPoint presentations. That is why it is one of the typefaces that made it to my list of interesting fonts.

Chris Costello, a designer and illustrator, created Papyrus in 1982 using a calligraphy pen and textured paper. His intent was to create a typeface that looked as if written on papyrus 2000 years ago. Letraset released the typeface in 1983. It is now owned by ITC.

While this typeface has become the punch line of most designer jokes, there are a handful of other fonts out there that are equally as offensive. So to help you avoid a design crime, we've outlined a list of 10 other fonts to steer clear of.

Sure, dotting your "i"s with hearts was cute when you were writing a note to your crush in middle school, but it's hard to take this sweet style seriously. Not to mention, the designer blatantly ignored the need for an apostrophe when naming this font. Yikes.

But it's really hard not to associate this with long, over-caffeinated nights spent trying to write and format a college paper hours before it's due. It's a good idea to steer clear of a font with so much emotional baggage.

About this font:

A Typeface that has ink/watercolor texture of its own. No need to overlay anything, just throw it over your photographs and projects! This font is a camouflage to whatever background you lay under it. Have fun! Note: Try typing the underscore symbol, it's a License Free For Personal Use

If the downloaded file is in zip format, extract the file  Windows 10/8/7/Vista: Right-click on the font files > "Install" Windows XP: Put the font files into C:\Windows\Fonts Mac OS X: Double-click the font file > "Install font" button.

I can see commercial fonts being offered to download for free on this website.

If you find anything wrong with any font whether a commercial font is allowed to be downloaded for free or your font is presented by other author, use the Report Font feature.

To simplify using the variations, when you apply the bold or italic formatting to text in Publisher, Microsoft Windows applies the appropriate font if it is available. For example, if you select some text in Times New Roman and then click Bold on theFormatting toolbar, Windows substitutes Times New Roman Bold for the font.

Many typefaces do not have separate fonts to represent bold and italic. When you apply bold or italic formatting to these fonts, Windows creates a synthetic version of the typeface in that style. For example, the typeface Comic Sans MS does not have an italic font version. When you apply italic formatting to text in Comic Sans MS, Windows makes the text look italic by slanting the characters.

The Fonts window opens and displays a list of all the fonts and font variations that are installed on your computer. On the View menu, make sure that there is no check mark next to the Hide Variations (Bold, Italic, etc.) option, and then click Details.Check to see if the typefaces that you are using in your publication have separate fonts available for the styles that you want to use.If a typeface is listed with only one variation, no separate fonts are available for bold, italic, or bold italic formatting. Most of the typefaces that have only one font available are decorative fonts and are not designed to be used in other variations. e24fc04721
