Because ICMP can be used to identify the operating system of a remote machine,[1][2] it is sometimes blocked.[3][4] If ICMP is blocked, ping cannot be used to identify if the service is responding. Publicly available services must keep their relevant TCP or UDP ports open, paping can attempt to make connections to these ports to determine if a service is responding. Similar utilities such as nmap allow a range of ports to be scanned, however they do not allow you to repetitively scan the same ports.

A good example of this might be testing connectivity to an SCCM Distribution Point where SMB (TCP port 445) has been allowed through a firewall but standard ping is blocked: simply copy the paping.exe onto the machine you wish to initiate the connectivity test from and run the following command from a command prompt:

I have a port scanning tool and it uses a command line Program called paping.exe, (If you want it you can install it here, ) and so far i can make it scan a few ports on a ip or website but it would be too time consuming to make it manually scan all ports from 1-65,535 so i need it to scan all 65,535 ports and display which ports are open without taking a lot of time

Most of the time specific servers ping is disabled and their specific ports are UP, to check whether that server is up or down remotely. We usually test it by ping command but it is disabled. So if you know which port is open for that server then you can check its up or down by using a third party utility called as "paping". e24fc04721
