The soundtrack features nine songs composed by Achu, with lyrics by Rohini, Narayan Nagendra Rao and Achu himself. A single track for the film was expected to be launched in September 2011, it but did not happen.[7] The soundtrack was launched on 15 February 2012, by Ameer, who used the platform to make controversial statements about the FEFSI strike of 2012.[8] The event included other film personalities like Mysskin, Cheran, Balaji, Thamarai, and Prabhu Solomon.[9]

Rahman considered Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal to be "the biggest milestone in [his] career" in Tamil, saying, "It helped me set my two legs permanently in [Tamil cinema]".[23] The song "Keladi Kanmani" inspired the title of a 1990 film.[24] A Hindi remake of Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal entered production with Rahul Roy starring, but the film never had a theatrical release.[25]

came forward supporting Late M.D.Ramanadhan's criticism.

 Anyway, I praise Ilayaraja for having made the Karnatic music easily

 accessible thru his song "Paadariyaen".

 But this posting is not really about "Paadariyaen". I am interested in

 knowing the raga of the song "Poomaalai vaanki .." performed by K.J.Yesudoss

 in the same movie . It sounds like the raga "Vishwapriya" to me ..

 Who wrote the lyrics for this song? "kaviyarasu" Vairamuthu?

 What about the raga of the song "Kalaivaaniyae?"

 Thanks,

 S.Pandian,

Here is what I know about the ragas for the songs in the film

Sindhu Bhairavi.* Maha ganapathim: As you correctly observed, this is a

Muthuswamy Dikshithar composition in the raga Nattai and is used

without any modification in the film.* Mari mari ninne moralida: In the film, both Yesudoss and Chitra

sing this song in the raga Saramathi (a janya of Nata Bhairavi,

the scale of this raga is: s r2 g2 m1 p d1 n2 S; S n2 d1 m1 g2

s). However, the original compostion "Mari Mari ninne" is by

Tyagaraja in the raga Kambhoji. The complaint M.D.Ramanathan and

many other musicians had with Ilayaraja was not that there was an

error in the raga Saramathi (after all the singers have to be

faulted for such a mistake) but that Ilayaraja had not followed

the Tyagaraja padhati (tradition) of ragas. The purists contend

that Tyagaraja was not only a composer but also a vaggeyakara --

this means that he specified the raga and tala for every kriti he

wrote and these have to followed strictly. On the other hand,

Ilayaraja's claim is that, the Tyagaraja padhati is only heresay

and as long as he can improvise, he should not be faulted for

changing the raga of the original composition.* Poomaalai vaangivandhan: This composition is in the raga

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Kaanada", certainly *not* Vishwapriya. Vishwapriya is a janya
of Gamanasrama (and is quite similar to Hamsanandi and Sunadha
Vinodini). I do not know who the lyricist is.* Kalaivaaniye: This kriti is based on the scale of Kalyani.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

However, the "judge" who introduces the concert says that the

composition has no avaroha prayogas. Still the aroha prayogas

used are based on Kalyani.There are some more songs from the film based on classical ragas.* Un dayavillaiya: This song is meant to be a translation of the

Telugu kriti, "Nee dayaraadha" in the raga Vasantha Bhairavi.

The composer is Tyagaraja.* Yochana Kamala lochana: This kriti in the raga Darbar,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tyagaraja compostion, is sung in a concert hall. "JKB" corrects a
faulting musician for his poor bhava and demonstrates a solfa
passage in the "proper style".-- Krishna
