I was wondering if there was a way to get the "normal" OneNote icon for my desktop shortcut? It has the icon without the odd purple background within the AppsFolder (which I created the shortcut from) but creating the shortcut adds the awful looking background. Any ideas?

I'm trying to create hyperlinks to my most frequently used OneNote notebooks and notes. It's easy to create the links (right-click a notebook/note and click "Copy Link to Notebook/Note"). But when I open the links, they start in the OneNote web app instead of the OneNote desktop app. Is there any way to create OneNote hyperlinks that open in the desktop app?

If you want to use an InternetShortcut you must use the "onenote:https:/..." part of the link as stated in the answer by GollyJer but you also have to have "IDList=" - at least that worked for me. Otherwise you might open the wrong page in OneNote.

I have posted on this before but I am still looking for a way to print documents into onenote on a Surface Pro X. It is so frustrating as it forces me to use the Win 10 version which is ok but not as good as the desktop version.

Hi! To open the online notebook in your desktop, you need to login with a personal Microsoft account. Once you are logged in with a personal Microsoft account, you can open a read-only version of the notebook in your desktop app and then copy from the master notebook to a personal notebook or your Class notebook. I find it easier to login with my personal Microsoft account at onedrive.com first, and then access the notebook to open it.

i've spent the last week or so trying to start developing an add-in for the desktop version of microsoft OneNote, but all i've been able to find in terms of documentation are add-ins that seem to run exclusively as task-pane add-ins for the web client. is there something i'm missing? where should i look?

Yes, pasting to word and then into Anki does work. This is definitely strange though, because I have been copy text from onenote and pasting it into Anki this whole semester without it pasting as an image. Not sure, where I need to go from here then.

It is a not critical thing since I have been able to get along for several years without OneNote features but it is super annoying when I want to see what I wrote in the client OneNote file in 2011 when OneNote was still a true desktop application. Much of the client files that are old are still pertinent today. I can open old Excel and Word documents from decades ago just not OneNote files.

I can confirm that if I launch OneNote from my Start menu and go to File | Options | Save & Backup it shows my OneNote desktop app is configured to save my notebooks to my local C:\Users\\ folder by default.

Equalizing the One Note web app with the two desktop versions is "so users can confidently get their jobs done on whatever platform they prefer," wrote Chetna Das, program manager at Microsoft, in a blog post.

The description of my problem is a bit long, and I hope you understand all the configurations/problems. PLEASE HELP! I hate it that dropbox has no real integration of onenote, I love both but they don't work together. And now with a new laptop I really have a problem.

I just got a new laptop and I use dropbox (this is obligatory, as I have a subscription that I pay for). With my last pc I had onenote-notes in a dropbox folder, so that they were safe in the cloud. Path like c://user/name/dropbox/onenote/name_notebook. And I have used onenote for ages and have A LOT of data in about 10 notebooks. I use it all the time, I need it on my new laptop!!!

If I can't transfer/copy the onenote notebooks to onedrive please advise how I transfer them onto the new laptop in/with dropbox - I don't get the structure. I know that I can change the path and that I can export but the export. But when I export one notebook into onepkg-file and I click on it on the new pc nothing happens (can't be read, search for app, nothing).

OneNote integration in Smartsheet to easily paste in a link to a OneNote page/paragraph/section/section group in one click, and then designate whether to open in the OneNote desktop version or web app.

We use OneNote internally for team collaboration on projects. Desktop OneNote is the version that offers all available features while the web app just offers a subset of that functionality, so for serious users that "live" in OneNote, the desktop version is the only option. We want to add hyperlinks to project tasks that directly open the relevant OneNote sections/pages we have set up for the task in desktop OneNote. I also mentioned a use case for external use with clients where it is preferable to have the hyperlink open the OneNote web app. Hope this explanation helps...

I agree! This is something that I am seeing as a gap as well. The only thought right now as a workaround is to create a folder on another drive that has the onenote files on there and create a link to the file on the smartsheet. This way people would be able to access the notes and the OneNote can be synced with the desktop application for the PM to use.

I used the proposed solution successfully. I am able to add a text "Notes" and after editing the dual links in the URL get it to launch the OneNote page in the web. However, after I use this process, the desktop app no longer works. I get the following:

I created a flow to send out an email when a new page is created in a section of shared notebook. when i create a page from the web browser for onenote, it works. when i create a page from my desktop onenote app, it doesn't. I'm able to see pages I create from the desktop show up in the web browser, and visa versa. Is there any restriction from the desktop app?

My desktop and sharepoint are synced and the same. I type in the section ID to match but it doesn't run as expected. Now when i go back to the flow, my section Id changed from "Status Updates" to something crazy " -981c-4ec6-a784-2d159c92342d..."

My itgroove colleague Colin Phillips, author of the SharePoint MMMan blog, was experiencing an odd behaviour with OneNote 2013 (desktop) after upgrading the operating system on his Surface Pro to Windows 10.

When he called me over to inquire if I was experiencing the same issue, I went and checked his OneNote Settings as I knew where the option to make OneNote desktop the default version lived. It was not selected. Made that change to the option and thought the pesky pop ups would disappear. Surprisingly that was not the case. Additionally the change to the setting would not be retained. It would continuously revert back to being not selected.

The following steps are for users who use the OneNote desktop application for macOS. Of importance, there is no method to export and import notebooks but you can move or copy sections and pages into other notebooks.

Hello everyone. I am a very avid user of OneNote. I use it to keep all my programming notes, snippets, diagrams, documentation, etc. I have been using the desktop version OneNote on Windows 10 so far. It works very well.

I make copious use of the fact that Chromium-based browsers will let you turn any web-page into an app, which you can then run on your desktop in its own dedicated window. Setting them up like this, you can then start them separately from their own Menu entry without needing to fire the browser itself up.

Everyone with a @ucsf.edu email address has access. However, a separate license is needed for desktop and mobile apps and some add-ins. A license can be requested using the Office 365 License Request form.

Microsoft Office Online allows for individuals to create, collaborate and share documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online. Office Online files are stored and shared via OneDrive for Business, Accessible either online (using a browser), on your desktop computer, or your mobile device.

Office Online brings the power of the core Microsoft Office suite to a web browser, allowing for increased collaboration and ease of access. Although limited in some ways (see differences for each application below), Office Online allows for functionality not available in the desktop applications, including:

If you wish to use the installed Windows or macOS desktop applications of Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote) you will need to purchase a new Microsoft 365 Personal subscription. A personal subscription comes with 1 TB of storage in OneDrive.

After transferring relevant data, you will then need to uninstall the desktop applications of Office, Office 365 ProPlus (your IC subscription) from your Windows or macOS device(s). You will then need to install a new copy of Office using your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription (instructions for both Windows and macOS).

The computer is essentially a PC with dual screens -- one standard desktop PC monitor and one Wacom pen display. The screens can be duplicates of each other for simplicity, or they can be used as separate screens for extra real estate -- dual monitors will allow you to display one monitor on the projector and use the second monitor to view your remote students through the Teams meeting window.

There is a built-in PowerPoint sharing option in Teams, however, using this method is not ideal for MIXED teaching modalities with in-person and remote students. The best option for sharing a PowerPoint presentation is to share a desktop and to open the PowerPoint application on the desktop that is being shared.

This is a great tool for taking notes in class and make them available to your students. Using the class notebook associated with your class team also keeps the content in a familiar and easy to find place. This guide will show you how to share the desktop and open the OneNote class notebook associated with your class team.

This guide assumes that you've completed the steps above of sharing your desktop with the teams meeting, and that you've already opened the MS Whiteboard app. These steps will outline how to create a sharable link to your Whiteboard that you can be posted in the chat of your teams meeting. ff782bc1db
