Setting up my Google maps, I attempted to download an offline map to my SD card which I had formatted in my new phone and repeatedly got the "Couldn't download" message for every attempt to download to SD card. Swapped SD card - same result. Download to device works OK.

Now luckily (for the test) my wife had postponed her UI 5.1 update on her own A33 5G and she was still on UI 5.0. So first I attempted to download an offline map on her phone with UI 5.0 and it was successful. Swapped her SD for my SD card on her phone and a download was successful again with my SD card with UI 5.0.

I have a volunteer that is having an issue downloading the offline maps within Field Maps that have been set up for data collection in the field. They have uninstalled and reinstalled Field Maps multiple times and they continue to get a message that says the "Download failed" when they are trying to download the offline areas. They are able to download an offline map in Survey123 just fine.

Is there anything that someone sees that I might be missing here or a setting that I am not asking them to check that might be changed inadvertently? It is working on others' Android based devices without issue. What has thrown me off is that they are able to download the offline map in Survey123.

I had a similar issue with my Samsung FE S20 phone...it would not download any pre-made offline areas that were bigger than 100mb. The same areas worked fine on iPad. The weird thing is that I could generate and download quite larger user-defined offline areas from the app. It would only fail with the pre-defined offline areas that were created in the Field Map setup webapp.

For example, c:geo is a open source project, which I found today by recommendation, and the map engine supports both raster and vector maps (and plenty of other features). I did test the engine, and it does run smoothly, even with a 4Gb .map Mapsforge vector map. Sharing offline map files, to save space, with other mapping applications can be done: -howto

I think this is a great idea. But until 1.0 the only thing I can sign up for is the current current maps. I used mapbox because it is super well documented and free for up to 15Kish map views per month.

Hi just for info re hiking with offline maps. I would use openandromaps.org to download maps and use them on cartograph. Usually I do this on my iphone but cartograph do have an Android equivalent although I have not tested it.

Openandromaps offer mapsforge maps which are great for hiking. You also get POIs.

Cartograph allows you to record your track.

I have no idea how you could code the Meshtastic app to allow you to have a selection of offline providers unfortunately. So I cannot help much!

Hey guys, have a look into API for Locus Maps. They were helpful when I tried to design a prototype of LORA based tracker integrated with their maps and API. They offer free version and of course the paid one (for approx. 10USD per phone installation). They have great offline maps and huge community.

I'm setting up Field Maps for my organization including a workflow document. I am pretty familiar with the offline capability of Field Maps. However, I was asked an interesting question by my program lead, that is, can we save our data, and upload to a laptop directly, all while offline. To my current knowledge that this is not possible as you have to wait until there is connectivity (Wi-Fi or cell service) and then sync all your changes.
