I'm working with a project its related to Offline map application.Because of that I searched for offline map which shows the defined area. I used MapBox for offline mapping. I can add annotation on this map and draw lines.

Offline implies no internet, the iPhone is still able in most cases to get the users current location from the GPS. That means that you can be quite confidant that you can find out the current location of the user whilst offline.

For each mapping service you will find a different route, maybe not in terms of actual path, but in estimated time, effort etc, what this means is that if you have your own maps (offline in a database), it's up to you to use that data, so you should make your own routing algorithm which I'm sure isn't what you want to do.

You can make offline routing by using graphhopper library by making graph data which contains (Street names, routes, edges) . Graph data is taken by .pbf file which can be taken by (Use this: ) and use commands(in Terminal) that was given by ( -ios/tree/master/graphhopper-ios-sample) to convert .pbf into graph data. Then we can make offline routing with its instruction (All given in graphhopper iOS sample).please refer that carefully. because i have done and finish my project successfully.

Hello @IsmaelChivite Developed a survey form with Survey123 Connect V3.13.234 and enabled Standard map option, published vector tile and mobile map package .vtpk for offline use, but got feedback from end users who are using iPhone 8 with iOS 14.8.1 that they can't download the offline map but got message: "There are no compatible maps available online to download".

Navigating unfamiliar areas or conserving mobile data is made simpler with the offline maps feature now available in iOS 17. This feature lets users download maps of specific regions to their devices, allowing them to access detailed geographical information anytime without needing an internet connection.

The utility of offline maps extends beyond just saving on data costs, it's a critical tool in areas with unstable or non-existent network coverage, ensuring that users can always find their way. Moreover, it enables smoother travel experiences in foreign countries where roaming charges can be exorbitantly high.

Various options in the menu include choosing to download on Wi-Fi-Only or Wi-Fi and Cellular, having the offline maps automatically updated, optimizing storage, and an option only to use offline maps for navigation.

My problem with "offline" anything and that includes music streaming and maps (google/apple) is that the iPhone does not intelligently detect when it is offline.

In the UK the problem I encounter is; I am driving and my phone says it IS connected to the network, and displays (for example) 1bar of signal and the 3G/4G logo. But it IS NOT actually working.

Rather than the apps switching into offline mode - the apps just stall and continually try and download data.

To get the offline mode to work I need to manually put it into airplane mode.

First world problem. But heck it is annoying.

How can I get offline maps on to my iPhone for geocaching? (kuwait specifically since I'm traveling there). I will have data/phone turned off but I will use the phones GPS system..just need some maps.

The official Geocaching App for iPhone can be used offline, but you have to save the caches you want to look for to your favorites first. Go to each individual cache's page from within the App and click on "Add to Saved List" to save them to your favorites. Then you choose to include images or not and pick the maps you want to save (street, topo, satellite). Keep in mind you cannot have Google Maps chosen in the App's settings...those can't be saved. Any cache in your saved list can then be searched for offline.

With the official Geocaching app you can upload your PQs via Wi-Fi and use them offline. As for offline maps with a smartphone thats always an issue. You may want to invest in a decent hand held GPSr. You'll get better durability and much longer battery life.

In addition to the above comments, you can also change your map preferences in the Menu -> Settings to openstreetmaps or Bing maps to save the street or satellite maps for offline use. Google's API prevents us from allowing to save Google maps for offline use.

Browse offline maps with just a tap using Apple Maps. Users can easily select an area on their device and download it with just a tap. While offline, users will be able to access turn-by-turn navigation for driving, walking, transit, and cycling; see their estimated time of arrival; find places in Maps; and more.

I use "offline" Google maps as well. However the offline version does not support walking directions. I would like to figure out some way to make it work. (It does do driving directions.) I just follow my location on the map to make sure i am going the right way.

I started with CityMaps2Go back in 2015 and initially found it workable. Then it went through a difficult patch and seemed to struggle to load maps. Sometimes I waited 20 minutes; it was strange. I also noticed, over time, that it didn't always find the places I searched for. I wasn't sure whether the issue was with diacritical marks in languages like Czech or an incomplete database of places and addresses. Places I could see if I looked manually on the zoomed-in map weren't always found via Search. I have now switched to Google's MyMaps, and its database seems to be a lot more robust.

Someone on this forum suggested an app to me some time ago and I wanted to pass it on. It's called mapy.cz and I have found it to be wonderful. I haven't taken it overseas yet but it works great on the trains in my local state/national parks with real time GPS location of my position on the trails. The app uses cell phone signals but you can also download maps by state/region for use offline. The app is available for Apple devices in the iTunes AppStore an it was free.

It took me a few years to consider switching to Apple Maps, but I finally did in 2019 after Apple's incremental improvements. Still, there are some features (like offline maps) that have led me to keep Google Maps installed for occasional use. I've been using the developer beta of iOS 17 for a couple of weeks now, so this seems like a good time to compare how the feature works on an iPhone running either Apple Maps or Google Maps.

To start, you can simply look up a city or place and a "download" button will appear next to the buttons for getting directions or going into flyover mode. Alternatively, you can tap on your user picture to open up the app's options, then tap offline maps, then tap "download new map." There are a few other settings here, like toggling whether maps download over mobile networks or just Wi-Fi, whether to use downloaded maps even when you have an Internet connection, and whether updates should be automatic. There's also an "optimize storage" button, but it's not entirely clear as a user what it does.

Once you decide to download a map, you can move or resize a box on top of the map to decide where to capture it. The map will download, and that's all you have to do to get going. When you're navigating that area without a cellular data connection, Apple Maps will default to the offline map. You can get directions, search for businesses, or access location pages.

A box will pop up for you to select your map area. If you couldn't find your area or place in the search box at the last step, you can now move the map select box to the area you want it to be in. Pinch to zoom and drag a finger on the background to move around the map. Tap, hold and drag the anchor points to select a map area to download. Wait for the download to complete. When it's done, it'll appear in the Offline Maps page.

\nFrom here on, all you really need to do is use Maps as usual. If you have no cell signal in an area, your offline map will allow you to plot and follow routes within the offline area. It'll be just like having an internet connection.

From the Offline Maps menu, tap Update All to ensure all your offline maps are fully up to date. Obviously, this requires an internet connection. Make sure you also toggle on Automatic Updates for this to happen automatically.

Thanks to iOS 17, you can now download Apple Maps, so you can view maps even when you aren't connected to the internet. If you know how to download offline Google Maps, you'll know exactly how useful this feature can be, allowing you to navigate, find your way and carry on traveling even if you're in an area that isn't covered by Wi-Fi or cellular networks.

Downloading offline Apple Maps is super easy, too, and can be done with just a few taps. Bear in mind that the downloaded maps can get quite large, and for good reason: you'll have all the functionality of using Maps online, offline, meaning you can zoom right into maps to see all roads and places. A map area covering most of England (which is about as big as the offline map area capture allows) works out at about 6GB. Needless to say, these maps will eat up your storage space very quickly, so use them wisely and delete any you no longer use. We'll show you how to find and manage your downloaded maps, too.

From here on, all you really need to do is use Maps as usual. If you have no cell signal in an area, your offline map will allow you to plot and follow routes within the offline area. It'll be just like having an internet connection.

Given the size of downloaded maps, you'll want to exercise some prudence in which maps you keep downloaded. As such, it'll pay to learn how to manage your offline Apple Maps. Thankfully, this is a super simple thing to do. ff782bc1db
