Whether you are playing the hottest new games or working with the latest creative applications, NVIDIA drivers are custom tailored to provide the best possible experience. If you are a gamer who prioritizes day of launch support for the latest games, patches, and DLCs, choose Game Ready Drivers. If you are a content creator who prioritizes reliability for creative workflows including video editing, animation, photography, graphic design, and livestreaming, choose Studio Drivers. Do a little bit of both? No worries, either can support running the best games and creative apps.

"Beta Release" Beta drivers are provided by NVIDIA as preview releases for quick bug fixes and access to new features. Beta drivers are under qualification testing, and may include significant issues. It is the end user's responsibility to protect system and data when using Beta drivers with NVIDIA products. It is strongly recommended that end users back up all the data prior to using Beta drivers from this site. Please ensure that newer Recommended/Certified drivers are not already posted on NVIDIA.com prior to installation and usage of Beta drivers. Beta drivers posted do not carry any warranties nor support services.

DKMS should be installed automatically once you install the nvidia driver using Software&Updates or using apt. Installing the non-dkms driver version requires manual intervention. Please post the output of

dkms status

Otherwise, it might be that the nvidia driver is installed but not added to the initrd:

 -mint-nvidia-driver-loads-with-startx-but-not-on-initial-startup/168262/2

I re-checked ubuntu packaging and seems I missed that tey now switched to using pre-compiled, signed modules instead of dkms when using the third party software option or drivers autoinstall. So the modules are now in the packages

I was having a similar issue on my debian machine. Whenever the kernel is updated, the nvidia driver fails to load. I created a script that automates the process of downloading the latest driver and installing it afterwards. You can find it here: GitHub - BdN3504/nvidia-driver-update

Please be sure if you have a problem to always include a screenshot from the Plugin page, a screenshot of the output of the command 'nvidia-smi' (simply open up a Unraid terminal with the button on the top right of Unraid and type in 'nvidia-smi' without quotes) and the error from the startup of the Container/App if there is any.

After starting the container and playing some movie that needs to be transcoded that your graphics card is capable of you should see that you can now successfully transcode using your Nvidia graphics card (Jellyfin doesn't display if it's actually transcoding with the graphics card at time of writing but you can also open up a Unraid terminal and type in 'watch nvidia-smi' then you will see at the bottom that Jellyfin is using your card) :

I upgraded to 6.9.0-beta35 from the 6.8.3 nvidia kernel with hardware transcoding working in all containers (Plex, Jellyfin, etc.). After successful installation of the nvidia-plugin, the graphics card is showing up in settings and nvidia-smi, but I am unable to get hardware transcoding to work. As soon as I activate hardware transcoding in Plex, I get a black screen instead of the video. Software transcoding works fine.

From what I know about this driver is that it integrates support for the RTX 3000 series (at least for the 3070), fixes a few minor bugs adds also a new Vulkan beta driver but is also still not fully compatible with Kernel 5.9

I have a weird issue with Unraid 6.9.0-beta35, these drivers (455.38)) and Plex (plexinc/pms-docker:1.20.5.3600-47c0d9038), the hardware transcoding/decoding do work, nvidiaa-smi send correct informations BUT when you're watchig the stream there are some very annoying glitches who completely ruin the exeperience :

I had exactly the same problem (same behaviour : microskip and skipping few secondes every 1 minute) with Nvidia-Unraid 6.8.3 and older nvidia drivers while using latests versions of plex... Upgrading to Nvidia-Unraid 6.9.0.beta-29 with newer nvidia drivers solved the problem...

It seems tha Plex is very picky concerning Nvidia drivers...

Let's say it like this the latest driver from the link above where it only displays the driver number is the 'consumer' driver or better speaking with all features working corretly (at least they should) and all other newer are for 'developers/testers', is that OK for you if we say it like this?

The problem was my former Plex version 1.20.5.3600-47c0d9038 (from plexinc) was installed BEFORE with Unraid-Nvidia, and i kept this untouched then upgraded to Unraid 6.9.0-beta35 with Nvidia-drivers... I think something in Plex didn't liked switching driver or Unraid version...

I had an issue with the linuxserver plex container. For some reason even with all of the correct parameters it would not do hardware accelerated encoding. My nvidia-smi process showed no use. I added the same parameters to the binhex plexpass container and everything started working correctly. I am using Unraid 6.9.0 beta 35. Thanks to ich777 for the suggestion.

Will this work on a GTX560Ti? I need it for Jellyfin. nVidia website only recommends up to version 390.138. On my app search, nothing came up with "nvidia" so my card may be too old for this world. Does that mean it is not compatible?

I also reinstalled ubuntu 20.04.2 by usb iso, and I found out that the kernel source tree has nvidia-460 driver, which impact DKMS rebuild.

e.g. my kernel source tree in following structure.

/usr/lib/modules/5.8.0-44-generic/kernel/nvidia-460/

Any help is appreciated, the only other thing I can think of is reinstalling my OS, which I do not want to do. This nvidia driver installation has never been easy for me but usually Ive been able to get it working after a few hours of trying things.

Update. I tried doing some more installs, but now anytime I install a nvidia driver my system no longer boots. I am able to boot fine with nouveau, and the additional software and drivers tab of the software updater still reports I am using a manually installed driver when this cant be possible.

@generix and I should install the driver first obviously, through the additional drivers tab in ubuntu? Then run all your steps, or reboot and then run the steps from the recovery mode (since my desktop GUI will not load)

I have a new laptop which has an Intel i5-7200u processor (which means his GPU is the Intel HD 620) and an NVIDIA Geforce 940mx. my problem is that I have to use windows 7 (company rule) and when i try to install nvidia driver it asks me to install intel driver first and this GPU Intel HD 620 does not have a driver compatible with Windows 7 so im not able to install it on windows 7 hence im not able to install Nvidia driver do you have any solution in mind please help.

Is there a way to install nvidia driver without installing intel driver ? or is it possible to use the driver dedicated for windows 10 in windows 7 (knowing that when i try to install it an error message pops up "this system does not have the minimum requirement ") ?

I had the same problem with a new Kaby Lake laptop I put Windows 7 on with Intel i7-7500u, HD 620 and AMD R7 M445. The Intel drivers would not install because of the reason you stated above. I am not happy about the forced Windows 10 migration and I refuse to believe that all this new hardware will not "support" Windows 7.

I have the Acer Aspire E5-774G with Intel i5-7200U Kaby Lake and Geforce 940MX. I have done the same like ounurpazar, but it won't install it manuelly over the Device Manager by changing the Standard VGA-Adapter and choosing the inf or the whole Intel driver folder.

Nvidia claim its optimisations include Blender, so might have some merit for Cycles, but who knows? (@nathanletwory?). I elected to use it because I figured it might not be subject to so much development churn as the Game driver.

Tested installing the drivers in the OS didn't solve the issue, After some testing and contact with Citrix support i found that it seems to be an issue with the filterdriver used for elastic layering, When i publish the image via ELM with elastic layering DISABLED it works just fine.

Not sure if you remember but you help me and Jake over the course of several days with trying to get the GRID drivers to work with our environment. We were not successful and you guys came out with the patch article. I am following it now to test out.

I am running through the process and wanted to get your thoughts on the install process. I have a new Platform Layer and installed the Nvidia GRID M10-1b drivers on it. Tested the GRID drivers and they worked fine. THEN added the registry entries per the CTX241448 article and rebooted. After the reboot, I could not access the NVidia control panel and it caused some subdirectories to C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\ and C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\ to disappear. Trying to launch the Nvidia control panel located C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\Control Panel Client\nvcplui.exe failed and the directory is empty. e24fc04721
