I am new to Xiaomi. This is my first Android phone since I remember that doesn't have option to separately control volume level for ringtone and notifications. And there is so little to read about that. Cannot believe that it doesn't bother more people. I just hate those overly loud notification sounds while phone is close to my face. I want to have ringtone to ~60% and notifications to ~10%. I have already tried apps like Ultra Volume and Volume Control. They do have separate sliders for notifications and for ringtone, but sliding one controls other too. So those apps weren't able to truly separate volume control even though sliders were separated.

My friend has a notification ringtone that I want on my phone but I can't find it on hers so I can send it to myself. The ringtone came on her phone and is not on her SD card. Does anyone know how I can do this? We both have the same LG android phone. Or at least know where I can download it off the Internet. It's simply called "POP" and goes something like "Ch'pow" LOL. Thanks

Pre-installed ringtones can be found below /system/media/audio (see also my answer here for additional details). If you want to know where to place your custom ringtones on your device, take a look at my other answer here.

I'm writing an app that notifies a user of very time sensitive information, and I think a lot of them would want to use a phone ringtone instead of just the short notification sounds. I enabled this feature by setting android:ringtoneType="all" in my PreferenceScreen, and it works great EXCEPT that when a phone ringtone is chosen, it keeps playing FOREVER until the user touches the notification bar... how can I get it to turn off after 30 seconds or so, without canceling the notification?

Android does not give you access to interfere with the notification playing the sound but if you have the full control of the ringtone you are playing, then you can stop it after 30 seconds or do whatever you want with it.

1) IF YOU ARE EXECUTING THE NOTIFICATION ON THE SPOT: Create a MediaPlayer object, start playing the ringtone the user picked right after you start the notification. Then count 30 seconds with a Timer and TimerTask (see example here on how to use them) or ScheduledThreadPoolExecutor and call MediaPlayer stop() to stop the ringtone after 30 seconds.

2) IF YOU ARE SCHEDULING THE NOTIFICATION FOR A LATER TIME: As soon as you set your notification, create an AlarmManager and schedule it so that it will be triggered at the same time with your notification. Your alarm could trigger another background service that you wrote in which you play the ringtone for 30 seconds using a MediaPlayer object as explained in part 1).

In both cases, the notification will still be there and the way you will play the ringtone will totally be independent of it. You will have full control over the ringtone. You can even replay it for another 30 seconds after some scheduled time if the user has not checked the notification till that time (since you are saying that the notification delivers a very time sensitive information, otherwise I wouldn't bug the user with ringtones playing insistingly).

Exactly. The worst change in all iOS 17. They also changed the vibration so all apps have the same vibration. I used to recognize apps via the vibration and I knew what is important and what is not only by the vibration. So now I am looking for a way to downgrade because notifications are the BASICS of the phone and they changed it without a chance to customise it back yourself. No thanks.

Dear Apple,After os17 update the notification sound has changed, liked other people are also mentioning and it is becoming very annoying and not able change it make situation more worst. It unnecessarily make us think that what compromise we can face without our consent in the upcoming updates !!

There really needs to be a way to change the Ring Alarm notification sound (iOS App) that the alarm has been tripped and is going off. Exactly the same way you can change it for camera and sensor notifications. I would love to have that sound be as annoying as a siren so I take notice ASAP instead of the current non-changeable sound.

There are a lot of apps for making custom ringtones (including Garageband), but none of them seem to be able to save these as "alert tones" (notification tones) in iOS, but rather just ringtones.

The problem with this is that most other apps that allow you to customize their notification sounds (e.g. Signal, Telegram, WhatsApp etc), only allow you to choose from the "alert tones" list in iOS, rather than the "ringtones" list, which makes this distinction critical indeed.

There a lots and lots of tutorials and apps online that claim to be able to install custom alert tones / notification tones, but every single one that I have found end up installing a custom "ringtone" after all. :-(

Method one requires that you install iTunes on a Windows computer. (I presume that there's a way to do this with an Apple computer as well, but it would probably be different because iTunes no longer exists as a discrete application for MacOS.) See -to-add-custom-ringtones-to-your-iphone/

Method two requires that you install GarageBand on your iPhone. You can either create a ringtone in GarageBand, or import an audio clip from the Files app, and then use the Share function to export it as a ringtonge. See -to-make-ringtone-garageband/

i'm very surprised as well, nobody seems to notice this was possible on Android but not on iOS, for YEARS!Ok i will add a detail that will blow your mind even more...On the Signal app on iOS, is possible to set your own custom notification sound, different for every single contact. Apparently Whatsapp and Telegram developers have no excuses

I didn't see my custom files on ringtone list even after few restarts. But then I switched in sound settings sound mode from "sound" to "vibration" then to "silent" and again to "sound" and my custom files appeared on a ringtone list. Maybe it will help others too.

5. Click and hold until it turned blue, clicked the 3 dots. Then cut , then pressed the arrow at top of screen pointing left twice to get to main folder, then went down to ringtone, clicked into the folder then pressed blue tick.

I got it to work. After copying it to the watch I tried restarting it, the notification tone didn't appear, tried to switch to mute, vibration and back to sound, still no luck. Then i went on the Galaxy Wearable app on the phone and went though the different standard tones and the last one, while still showing the standard name, played my custom tone instead. Set it and tried it and my watch now makes the sound of a star trek communicator when a notification plays

:Now its just a matter of going to your galaxy wearable app on your phone, selecting watch settings, sounds and vibrations, selecting either ringtone or notification, and playing each sound option, till your sound file plays.

but i will say this if you have the app on both your watch and phone your 95% there, the rest is above,, and if you can do above and it show's the files in the ringtone folder on your watch,, reboot your watch it should work then as the files on your watch are in the right place.....

Sorry I miswrote! I get text notifications for arming, disarming, lost/regained connection and secret alerts. NOT outdoor camera motion. It would be nice if all this was well laid out/documented/available to read. Just a push alert for camera motion.

Maybe a new system alert SMS Recipient togglable category or a specific individual camera setting to text with motion detection or a motion "secret alert". Currently motion notifications "on" only provides a push notification.

Yes, I have done this. The notification setting isn't in the Google Home app, it's in the Settings>Notifications>App Settings area. Once there, find the Google Home (it's under just "Home") and scroll down to "Doorbell press notifications". There you can change the sound and other things like vibration and pop up notifications. I've set mine to "Royal Fanfare", You can also change the notification for just people who come to the door, but don't press the doorbell button - that's "presence sensing notifications". You can make it the same sound or something else.

I will generally say that I have personally seen a lot of Samsung device users have some issues with notifications. However, there is no such option to have a custom ring tone for our Doorbells. It gives you just the default tone and nothing more. Please leave your feedback or feature request on the app.

5. Scroll to the notification sound you want to change. We are all interested in the Doorbell press sound on your phone, so scroll down to "Doorbell press notifications" and tap on the vibrating bell icon on the left.

6. Make sure the slider is slid to the right on "Show Notifications". When you do, it should bring up options for you to change. Tap on the "Sound" choice and make a choice based on the notifications that are present on your phone. Make sure and tap "Save" in the top right corner after you make your decision.

Kudos for the detailed steps. This will be very beneficial for anyone who has this question. On my phone (Pixel 6), I can also set the notification for when the Camera detects someone. That's great for deliveries as they don't usually press the doorbell. It also alerts me when the deer are eating my landscaping shubbery!!! 006ab0faaa
