I just made this. Ugh. What a project for someone who can hardly sew. But, it came out 83% alright. The zipper area is a little snug/close to the kindle, but I think I'll keep it.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Both Kindle 2 and nook have a 6-inch display with E-Ink technology, 16-level grayscale contrast and adjustable text size. However, the display of the nook is less responsive than the Kindle's. David Pogue at the New York Times writes that

The Nook also has a 3.5-inch color touch screen that is used for highlighting text, adding bookmarks and navigating the internal library. The touch screen can be turned into a keyboard for making annotations and taking notes, or a controller for the MP3 player. Arrow keys on either side of the device control page-turning. When not in use, the nook's touch screen goes dark.

According to Amazon, the Kindle has access to more than 360,000 e-books as well as newspapers, magazines and blogs that can be wirelessly downloaded from Amazon.com. According to Barnes & Noble, more than one million newspaper, magazine and e-book titles can be purchased online at BN.com for the nook. This includes access to over 500,000 free e-books. These e-books are also available on the Kindle but Amazon does not count them when they advertise because they are copyright-free, low-resolution scans available on Google Books.

The Kindle 2 3G uses Sprint's network to connect to Amazon.com to download content. The nook uses AT&T's network for the same purpose. The nook also offers 802.11b/g Wi-Fi connectivity to get online, plus a free Wi-Fi connection in all Barnes & Noble stores. However, you get no notification when you are near a wireless hot spot. And if the wireless network requires a login or welcome screen, you cannot log on to it.

Hi, i have had a kindle. Let me tell you about my exprence with this device. Bought 7 kindle device under one month. All 7 kindle device froze on me. I had to call the company about my exprience. The only thing they told me it was because it was out of date. So i went to best buy because there was were i bought the kindle and told them what had happen to my device. So they went and tray it for another kindle device. So what i did i open the box and buy all the information they ask for. I did it infront of one of the managers of best buy so he could see that i was not doing anything wrong it just froze in front of his eyes. So he call the company and they told him the samething that they told me. About 3 hours trying to figure out what was wrong they offer me the Nook for free and gave me my money back from the kindle device. Let me tell you about it i had the nook about 10 months already and i just love it. I had no major issue with my nook. If i have a question about something I just walk to barns & nobles and they just help me out. Plus every 1st and 3rd monday of the month 7pm to 9pm the employes from barns and nobles offer free class or a group gather and show you how to work and used your Nook device. They are great and i live in houston tx. In christmas my husband bought me the ipad because he shaw that i had bought books from kindle. He also saw that i was upset about it because amazon would not give me a refound so that why he bought me a ipad, so i could download kindle application and i did. When i download the kindle application all my books that i had bought were there.

I also download the nook application and borders application. Let me tell you about my expreinces it been amazing. Its been a month now that i have my ipad and i have alot of books. I just love my ipad to dead. I also have education application like the tracing ABC and numbers for my 4 yr old twins dauther and this application had help them to improve there handwriting. There teacher are amaze with their handwriting. Now im planning to give my nook to one of my nice because she loves to read and stay with the ipad. I love my nook buy i love more my ipad it is worth the cost.

I dissagree compleatly. I have a nook color and i love it. I am 12. It is the BEST Christmas presant ever. I think the nook is better than the kindle because

1. Nook lend me feture flawless

2. More books

3. I can go to the BandN store any time and get help. Unlike with Amozon

4. The nook is just planly prettyer. The kindle keybord looks like a old coculater

Thats why i picked Nook over kindle.

I read that the nook does better than the kindle for reading mathematical texts, I saw that on I am looking for an ebook reader to use at school, I am a physics and mathematics undergraduate. Any recommendations?

Let's be honest, there are few things more stress relieving than finally flipping your lid and telling your boss where he can go and what he can sit on when he gets there...but in terms of stress relief that is less likely to cause security guards to arrive is reading in the bathtub.

This is also a handy way to protect your kindle if you are reading in your kiddie pool in the front yard with your boxer shorts and hot dog. I assure you that the Kindle classes the situation up a lot.

Also applicable, regular pools, the beach, on a boat, while cooking...

I like this even better than using an old book, since the Kindle is protected and you don't need to fiddle with turning pages through a bag. Even the touch screen on a Kindle Fire works through the bag!

On the right, you will see book jackets for all of the items you've downloaded using Adobe Digital Editions. Note the banner over the upper right-hand corner of each book jacket that shows you how many days you have left in your loan period. On the left, you'll see your bookshelves, and at the bottom, you'll see your eReader (in this case a nook).

Click on the cover of the title you would like to transfer to your eReader, drag it to the icon for your eReader (in this case a nook), and let go of the mouse button. You will see a brief message that it is copying the file.

At this point you have transferred the eBook to your eReader and it is ready to read once you eject your eReader and disconnect it from your computer.

I want to buy a kindle for backpacking. I usually take along a book on solo long trips and I was surprised to put them on a scale recently and found them to be heavier than a basic kindle which is 5.98 oz. Therefore, I will be buying an e-reader mainly for use when backckpacking longer trips 7-12 days, especially for when one is stuck in a tent because of stormy weather and sometimes when I'm bored and not quite tired enough at night.

What e-reader would you suggest? Kindle (5.98 oz and 69 dollars) or kindle paperwhite (7.3 oz and 119 dollars)? The paperwhite has a light so reading at night may be easier, but I always carry a long lasting headlamp. I'd also consider a nook if you like them over the kindles. I do not need something with web surfing or web browsing capability.

I wouldn't get one with a backlight if it were me. The battery on a regular kindle is three months or something but it's only a few hours with the light on if I remember correctly. I always read with the red bulb of my headlamp because it lasts forever so I don't need to worry about it. I had a kindle and loved it for backpacking. I've got a sony now do I can't speak to the nook.

we have the kindle paper light. You can turn the back light off. we haven't charged ares in a while. they are great light weight and you could up load your maps in pdf form onto it. I have no experience with the nook other than my mother has it and loves it.

I have both kindle"s. I would take the original. The paperwhite at it's lowest light setting against a black background gives me some eye strain. I don't get eye strain with a headlamp because it also lights up the background. I prefer the longer battery life of the original. I also wish they kept the music player in the paperwhite.

I currently have a galaxy s3 phone and use the kindle app on it for all my books. The kindle has a better, more readable screen. The kindle has better battery life. But, my GS3 is lighter than a kindle, easier to pack than my kindle, serves as my camera, serves as my phone, serves as backup navigation, and occasionally provides me internet access.

I used to have a phone with a 3.5" screen, but I found that too small to comfortably read on. For the last 2 years, I have been doing almost all of my reading on my GS3's 4.8" screen. And while the kindle screen is better to read on, I always have my phone with me and I find it far more convenient than using a separate device. 2351a5e196
