He is approached by Safina Kidwai, a 14-year-old girl married to the majority share owner of the star hotel, Freddie Rehman, to help her escape to India. Upon his refusal, she steals his phone and discreetly records a meeting in Shaan's phone between Shailendra 'Shelly' Rungta and her husband, about buying and smuggling illegal arms into Bangladesh. She also takes pictures of the paperwork and returns the phone to Shaan, so that he can view everything. Two years later, Shaan now lives as a recluse in Shimla, working as a night manager in a star resort. He is constantly haunted by his failure to protect Safina. One day, his superior tells him that Shelly, along with his associates, is coming to stay in the hotel for a few days. Once they arrive, Shaan collects information from the trash in his room and mails it to Lipika. Over the course of his stay, Shelly constantly runs into Shaan. Each time, he is impressed with Shaan's demeanour. He even gives his coat to Shaan, as a token of remembrance, as he leaves the resort. The next day, Shaan is visited by an undercover Lipika, who has now been demoted to the archives section of the agency. They both decide to infiltrate Shelly's syndicate. After a dramatic set-up orchestrated by Lipika and her co-worker, Sarang, Shaan is able to reach Sri Lanka, by posing as an international runaway, to get close to Shelly.

Jonathan Pine, night manager of a luxury hotel in Cairo and former British soldier, is recruited by Angela Burr, the manager of a Foreign Office task force investigating illegal arms sales, to infiltrate the inner circle of arms dealer Richard Roper.

During the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, Jonathan Pine is night manager of the Nefertiti Hotel in Cairo, Egypt. He becomes involved with Sophie Alekan, the mistress of a playboy, Freddie Hamid, from a wealthy and influential local family. Sophie gives Pine confidential documents that she wants copied, including a list of weapons and warfare chemicals, and correspondence between the Hamids' companies and Ironlast Limited. She tells him to keep them safe, and to pass them to his contacts if anything happens to her. Pine turns the documents over to the International Enforcement Agency in London, England. This information makes its way to intelligence officer Angela Burr, who has been working to try and bring down Richard Roper, an arms dealer. However, the information is somehow leaked to Roper, who pulls out of the deal with the Hamids. When Pine next sees Sophie, she is bruised and battered. Pine brings her to a safe house, and they become romantically involved. Pine confronts his contact over the leaked document, and demands that Sophie be given asylum. He is told that the Hamids have numerous friends in England, so it is recommended that Sophie returns to the Hamids. A short while later, Burr discovers who provided the documents to England, and contacts Pine to rescue Sophie. Pine rushes to her room, where he discovers Sophie dead.

The series, based on the John le Carr novel of the same name, follows Hiddleston's Jonathan Pine, an ex-soldier and now night manager of a luxury Cairo hotel recruited by a British intelligence agent (Olivia Colman) to infiltrate the inner circle of the notorious arms dealer Dicky Roper, played by Hugh Laurie. The show was an overnight success, and almost as soon as the season wrapped up conversation buzzed about whether a second one was on the way.

Ex-soldier Jonathan Pine, the night manager at the Nefertiti hotel in Cairo, is approached by Sophie Alekan, a guest who is the kept woman of businessman Freddie Hamid, and who asks him to copy some documents for her. These turn out to reveal Hamid as an arms trader and a concerned Jonathan takes them to the British embassy, from where they are sent to Angela Burr, who heads the International Enforcement Agency in London. Jonathan fails to save Sophie from being murdered and, four years later, is working at a Swiss hotel where Richard Roper and his entourage briefly stay. Angela summons Jonathan to her office, telling him that Roper is an international arms dealer who was doubtless involved in Sophie's death and asks him to go undercover to help her to trap him.

Jonathan, now dressed in a sleek suit, assumes his duties as night manager of the hotel. He stands in the lobby, assuring an American woman that the hotel is safe just as an explosion goes off outside.

It has been seven years since Tom Hiddleston starred as soldier-turned-hotel-manager-turned intelligence asset Jonathan Pine in John le Carr adaptation The Night Manager. He's finally headed back to that role in a new season of the show.

Aditya Roy Kapur is aforementioned 'night manager' who gets unwillingly recruited into spying on Shailendra Rungta, the merchant of death. Anil Kapoor's Shelly is a philanthropic businessman to the world, but in reality, deals in weapons on the black market. While stationed in Bangladesh working for a hotel, Aditya's Shaan Sengupta tries to help a child bride escape from her husband, who happens to be one of Shelly's associates.

The Night manager Web-series: Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur have large shoes to fill this Friday as they make their web series debut in Sandeep Modi's The Night Manager. An official Indian remake of the hit British series by the same name, the show is a spy thriller with Kapur playing a night manager of a five-star hotel who is given the task by the Indian intelligence to nab the world's most dreaded arms dealer played by Anil Kapoor.

The original British series was released in 2016 and starred Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, and Elizabeth Debicki in lead roles. Based on author John le Carr's 1993 book, the series was aired on BBC One and earned critical acclaim. The Night Manager was nominated for thirty-six awards that year, of which it won eleven, including two Primetime Emmy Awards (for director Susanne Bier and music composer Victor Reyes) and three Golden Globe Awards (for Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie).

Considering the series was a huge hit back in the year of release, it has over the years enjoyed a huge fan base. Something that Indian filmmaker and director Sandeep Modi and producer Simon Corwell (the producer of the original series and the remake) know very well. In a candid chat with WION, the two makers discussed the pressure of making a remake of successful series, why it had to be adapted for the Indian audience, and if there is a possibility of season 2 of 'The Night Manager.

The first season of The Night Manager followed Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), the titular night manager at a hotel in Cairo and former British soldier, who was drafted in by a member of a British Foreign Office task force who's been investigating the illegal arms trade.
