Unless specifically noted, the images, videos, and music distributed on the public ESO website, along with the texts of press releases, announcements, pictures of the week, blog posts and captions, are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, and may on a non-exclusive basis be reproduced without fee provided the credit is clear and visible. The license allows adaptation of the material, but any adaptations do not affect or impair the use of the original ESO material by others under Creative Commons license. Details on how to interpret this are given below for those who need further explanation.

Our basic intention is to encourage the use of our images, videos, press releases, announcements, pictures of the week and captions and we take a common-sense approach to crediting: our only concern is that you credit clearly, visibly and unambiguously and that the credit is not separated from the image/footage/text. We understand that the most appropriate way of doing so may vary from case to case. See the Q&A below for some common examples.

Q: I am a picture editor for a News Agency. We prefer to use our own name as credit for the images and not tell anyone from where we got them. Is that ok?

A: No. Please reproduce the credit in full. This should normally be on the page which the picture is presented on, or on the facing page.

Q: I want to use a picture on the cover of a book/magazine. Does the credit have to appear on the cover?

A: No. Provided it is clearly visible and identified as being the credit for the cover image, the credit can appear in another prominent place in your publication. This could, for example, be the back cover, the inside front cover or the editorial page.

Q: I am a journalist. I want to use the text of a press release in a news report. Do I need to credit you?

A: No. News media are excepted from the requirement to credit the text of press releases, announcements, pictures of the week or captions. (You must, however, properly credit any images or videos you use).

Q: I am an editor of a publishing company. I want to use text from ESO in a book. Do I need to credit you?

A: No, media including book publishers are exempted from crediting text. Please remember that only press releases, announcements, pictures of the week and captions are released under these terms.

Q: I want to use text from the ESO website, but it is not part of a press release, announcement, picture of the week or caption. Can I still use this?

A: No, other texts on the ESO website are not released under Creative Commons.

Frutillar is actually technically separated into two parts, Frutillar Alto (High Frutillar) and Frutillar Bajo (Low Frutillar). Frutillar Alto is the commercial and residential part of the town, located literally up on a hill, right off the Panamerican Highway. Frutillar Bajo is the traditional, more picturesque part of the town, which primarily caters to tourists.

As the sun sets, the houses that cover the city's many hillsides change tone, chameleon-like, from strong and vibrant to dusky shades of pink, gold, sage and pale blue. On the park lawn, a trapeze artist is balancing on a high wire in the last fingers of sunshine and two actors rehearse their lines under the violet blooms of a jacaranda tree. In the auditorium at the far side of the park, in a high-ceilinged room with wooden floors and long black curtains, a small audience settles in to listen to a series of international musicians taking part in an experimental gig. Welcome to Friday evening, Valparaso-style.

The city's former prison typifies its transformation. Formerly squatted by an art collective, it reopened in the summer of 2013 as a cultural centre, Parque Cultural de Valparaso, with a public park and a new auditorium designed by HLPS, one of Chile's up-and-coming architecture practices. It's here I watch musicians and acrobats at sunset. But you don't need to venture to the highbrow performance centre to find music, culture and art. The real action takes place in the streets that cover the city's cerros (hills).

Local band La Smala is one worth checking out and, especially at weekends, you can find all kinds of live music in bars throughout the city, from Chilean folk and pop to Latin fusion. Try L Bar (General Cruz, 335) in El Almendral and the bars on Cumming at the base of Cerro Panten.

Recently declared a Unesco world heritage site, San Miguel de Allende is known for its colonial architecture, shops and culture. Its compact centre is filled with narrow streets, cobbled alleys and homes painted in muted ochre colours. The city is home to a large population of artists and writers, both native and foreign, and hosts regular music, dance and literary festivals. There are plenty of studios, galleries and design stores and a vibrant food scene, with some of Mexico's best-known chefs opening restaurants in the city.

A motion picture content rating system classifies films based on their suitability for audiences due to their treatment of issues such as sex, violence, or substance abuse, their use of profanity, or other matters typically deemed unsuitable for children or adolescents. Most countries have some form of rating system that issues determinations variously known as certifications, classifications, certificates, or ratings. Age recommendations, of either an advisory or restrictive capacity, are often applied in lieu of censorship; in some jurisdictions movie theaters may have a legal obligation to enforce restrictive ratings.

Films intended to inform, educate or instruct or concerned with sport, religion or music are exempt from classification provided they do not contain material that would result in an "M" rating or higher if submitted for classification.[5]

Motion pictures are rated by the Austrian Board of Media Classification (ABMC) for the Federal Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture (Bundesministerium fr Unterricht, Kunst und Kultur). The recommendations made by the ABMC are generally not legally binding and there are nine sets of state laws on the cinema sector with different age provisions.[6] The only exception is in the case of "16" rated films, since under Austrian law there is a legal age restriction on certain types of content i.e. discrimination, sexual abuse, glorification of violence etc.[7] In addition to the ABMC's age recommendations, in the state of Vienna children under the age of 6 are only permitted to attend public film performances if they are accompanied.[8]

Motion pictures shown in Indonesia must undergo reviewing by the Film Censorship Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (Indonesian: Lembaga Sensor Film, LSF). Other than issuing certificates, the LSF also reviews and issues permits for film-related advertising, such as movie trailers and posters. LSF has the authority to cut scenes from films. Films passed for exhibition are awarded one of the following classifications:[73]

The General Directorate of Radio, Television and Cinematography (in Spanish, Direccin General de Radio, Televisin y Cinematografa) is the issuer of ratings for motion pictures. The RTC is an agency of the Secretariat of the Interior (Secretara de Gobernacin). It has its own classification system, as follows:[101][102]

In the Philippines, motion pictures, along with television programs, are rated by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, a special agency of the Office of the President. As of 2012, the Board uses six classification ratings.[119]

A motion picture rating system was proposed in the Film and Video Act of 2007, and was passed on December 20, 2007 by the Thai military-appointed National Legislative Assembly, replacing laws which had been in place since 1930. The draft law was met with resistance from the film industry and independent filmmakers. Activists had hoped for a less-restrictive approach; however, films are still subject to censorship, or can be banned from release altogether if the film is deemed to "undermine or disrupt social order and moral decency, or might impact national security or the pride of the nation".[156]

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) classifies films to be publicly exhibited in the United Kingdom, although statutory powers remain with local councils which can overrule any of the BBFC's decisions. Since 1984, the BBFC also classifies films made commercially available through a home video format. If the BBFC refuses a classification this effectively amounts to a ban (although local councils retain the legal right to overturn it in the case of cinema exhibition). The BBFC's regulatory powers do not extend to the Internet, so a film they have banned on physical media can still be made available via streaming media/video on demand. Videos designed to inform, educate or instruct or concerned with sport, religion or music are exempt from classification; exempt films may be marked as "E", but this is not an official label.[169][170]
