The group Styl-Plus (originally STYL) is a Nigerian R&B and pop musical group / quartet.[1][2]The founding members were Shifi Emoefe, Tunde Akinsanmi, Yemi Akinwonmi, and Lanre Faneyi, the name STYL being an abbreviation of the founders' first names.[3]

In 2002 Yemi Akinwonmi left the group unofficially and the musical band became a trio without adding a new member. Starting 2003, the group officially had its own record label, STYL-PLUS. On Thursday November 15, 2018, it was reported that Tunde Akinsanmi left the group in 2012 and adopted a new stage name "Tunde Tdot", leaving Shifi and Zeal who currently act as the flag bearers of the group.[4]

STYL was formed in 1997 in Akure, Nigeria and made up of four members. In 2001, the group sang mainly pop and love songs. In 1999, after Lanre Faneyi's death, and the addition of Zeal Onyecheme, the name of the group was changed to Styl-Plus. In 2002 Yemi Akinwonmi left the group to pursue another career.

Styl-Plus has been dubbed Africa's "Boyz II Men" due to their ability to deliver heartfelt emotional ballads.[5] The successful group of talented artists with their vocal harmonies, catchy tunes, melodies, R&B style, combined with meaningful and storytelling lyrics are a union between English and their native tongue Yoruba, spoken in Nigeria.

Styl-Plus's first two albums include tracks like "Olufunmi", "Imagine That" (Produced by Tunde Akinsanmi), "Run Away", "Call My Name", "Stay Alive" and "Four Years". Other releases include "Unbreakable", "Ready to Go", "On the Dance Floor" featuring Jesse Jagz, "Ka Fo Lo (Let's Fly Away)", "Jekeserelo" featuring Chics Bad Boy Slim (produced by Tunde Akinsanmi) and "Baby Mo".[6][7]

In February 2006, they released their highly anticipated 11 track debut album "Expressions". The spectacular, star-studded album launch in Abuja and Lagos was rumored to have cost over N10 million (about $75,000) making it the most expensive album launch in Nigerian history.

Their singles "Olufunmi" and "Runaway" were amongst the most requested love songs on all the major Nigerian R&B radio stations between 2004 and 2005. "Imagine That" is the lead single from their official debut album, Expressions. It has also been a massive chart topper, and has been used in numerous shows, including the pioneer edition of Big Brother Nigeria.

Other songs like "Four Years" and " Iya Basira" were campus hits at the time of their release. Most graduating students still play "Four Years" at their send off party at various universities all over Nigeria.

The group has received numerous Nigerian National awards as well as International awards by Channel O, Amen Awards and Kora Award nominees. In 2005, Call My Name won best R&B video award by Channel O South African music station.

Dua Lipa's style has always intrigued me, mainly because she consistently looks great. She is known for being what the fashion girls call a full-look baby. Some might see this as a bad thing, but as someone prone to buying the replica of looks I find online and then figuring out how to mix and match them into my closet later, I was ready to give Dua Lipa my best try. To recreate the Dula Peep essence (Thank you for the memes, Wendy Williams), I spent several weeks of this process stuck in no man's land, also known as Google. Since Lipa tends to wear many outfits directly off the runway, finding replicas was tough in general, and on top of that, finding anything remotely similar in my size was demoralizing. I laid out seven looks for this edition of CTRL+C. Very ambitious, yes, I know, but there were just so many Dua 'fits that I wanted to try out, and I couldn't dwindle it down. As you'll see once you scroll down, there are actually only five looks in this CTRL+C installment, and that is because two looks were not even able to be attempted. There was nothing, zero, nil, nada on the plus-size side of the World Wide Web that would even come close to resembling them, which was quite frustrating, mostly because I thought I'd look good in all of them. (Sorry, pals, we missed out!) But alas, fat bodies aren't granted the same freedoms when it comes to fashion.

Other than her taste in men, we don't really know the details of Lipa's private life, so this gives her a lot of room to wear different things without them feeling off-brand or confusing. Once I got past the sadness of trying to find the missing looks in my challenge to dress like Dua Lipa for a week, I was able to get my hands on many items that resembled or felt similar in vibe to the other looks she had been seen wearing. The biggest lesson this go-around is that plus-size people need more sheer clothing. Why can't I easily find sheer dresses, shirts, skirts? Brands, let's get to it!

For a week, I tried to recreate a few of my favorite Dua Lipa looks as closely as I could as a plus-size woman. There were some failures (three specifically that I will never let go of and might bitterly bring up for the next three installments of this series, so...you've been warned!) and some wins. Overall, it was incredibly fun, so I'd say it was a definite success. Whether you are looking for inspo or simply here for the rise, here are some plus-size-approved options if you are looking to channel your inner Dula Peep soon.

I was so excited to attempt this look because it feels so quintessential to my personal style. It's exactly how I like to dress in my day-to-day life, and thankfully, a lot of the pieces in the look were easy to get. The coat and ribbed T-shirt are from Good American. The boots are from Fashion to Figure. The skort is from Cider, and while it got the job done, I was really frustrated trying to find a plaid skirt similar to hers. There just weren't any online during the hours I spent perusing. Nothing I came across was pleated. On top of that, if they found a nice plaid skirt, it was never mini, which was quite annoying.

I wanted to attempt this look because of the bonafide cool factor. If there's one thing I belive is that clothes have the ability to make us feel good, and you can tell Lipa felt good in this. While I was able to replicate the vibe overall, this was one of the looks where I feel I missed the mark. I, once again, was hit by endless pushes from SHEIN and Fashion Nova, giving me several dupe options but none from any other brands.

It seems like the simpler an outfit is, the harder it is to escape the grasp of fast fashion and find affordable, lasting plus-size options. Leather mini-dresses exist. I saw them when scrolling through ample amounts of straight-size options. Unfortunately, leather mini dresses do not exist in plus sizes, and if they do, it's the God-forsaken fit-and-flare. I am not against the fit-and-flare. It personally sits as my go-to dress style, but I can't help but wonder if we've been forced into it by the plus-size retail market.

For the past full year, I've loved doing this series, but it's also a constant reminder of everything lacking within plus-size fashion. It also makes me hate shopping. I'd love to go online and find exactly what I'm looking for when I type it into Google, but that is quite literally not the case even days away from 2024. And before you come for my Google skills, don't. No matter how hard I try to describe the item, I always come across several cute options, click on the site, and see only S-M-L." When you add in the words plus-size," you'll get nothing remotely similar. It's almost as if when adding in the word plus-size, the search engine explodes and just gives me cold shoulders, floor-length skirts, and empty promises.

A reader recently reached out to me and wanted advice for plus size guys. Our conversation was mostly about fit and it inspired me to write this post. I work with all types of men including those who wear XXS to those who wear 3XL and I understand the struggle in finding the right clothes. Fit matters no matter what size you are.

You can totally tuck in your shirts. However, make sure you wear your pants below your stomach for a more flattering look when tucking. Otherwise, your pants will cut you right in the middle of your stomach creating extra dents and folds in your stomach.

When deciding the length of your shirt, you should also consider what is going to look flattering. If you carry more weight in your upper body and your jeans hold the bottom of your stomach, consider having your shirt cover that area for a more flattering look. It could be your pants are a bit tight in the seat and thighs if your lower stomach is well defined in your pants.

Not only is layering fashionable, but its great for plus size men. Jackets pull everything together and create vertical panels for a more streamlined look. Jackets make a person look more stylish anyway, so as soon as fall rolls around, layer away.

Have fun with things like patterned socks, bracelets, hats, belts, suspenders, cool backpacks, shoes and scarves. These little details are what makes someone appear stylish. Even if you want to wear dark colors, adding in accessories makes you look more modern and fun.

There are more and more brands creating inclusive sizing, which is great. However, if nothing is floating your boat, check out custom options. Brands like Pacific Issue offer nice custom button down shirts for under $150. You will be wearing these clothes for a while, so consider your cost per wear.

Get a dose of inspiration from plus size guys making moves on instagram. This is great way to see how people are wearing different pieces and how they look on them. The point is get inspired and ideas on what you can add to your style.

Hey Keira! Great point! Yes, so a slim/tailored cut will be a bit narrower in the shoulders than a classic cut, allowing for a well-fitted shoulder. Some shirts even have darts in the back that can be released so you can have extra space in the stomach in case the buttons are slightly pulling on a slim. When it comes to t-shirts, the fit really depends on the brand. Some brands (especially European/British) cut slimmer, while some brands cut bigger. For example, if you look at Ted Baker, ASOS, Norse Projects and Bonobos, they offer slim cuts in XXL. The best thing to do is to measure shoulder to shoulder and compare the measurements to the size chart of the brand you are eyeing. 152ee80cbc
