Furthermore, in the CD/Mac versions of Monkey (target 'monkey' or 'monkey-mac', not 'monkey-vga' or 'monkey-ega'), you can specify a boot param between 3000 and 3777 (including both numbers). These will spawn you in the lookout with various flags and objects:

so I am trying to play 'secret' through scummvm but I am in a complete mess here.

I bought the GOG special edition version and have that installed but when I search for the game using scummvm it always says that there is no game to be found in the directory. I have gone in to all the directories and nothing.

Hello

I have a problem with the scumm games, I create a folder with the name of the game (Monkey Island.scummvm for example), then inside this folder I put the files of the game and another file called monkey.scummvm (shortname)

When I try to enter the game, it returns me to the frontend

If I put the game files and the file monkey.scummvm in the main folder of the emulator works, but having several games is a problem, as the files get mixed

I am doing something wrong?

Thank you

You don't need to name the folder game ****.scummvm just leave a blank file named monkey.scummvm in the folder, i have the same problem too , we can't leave all the files in the main folder cause some files have the same name .. fo this one you just need to have MONKEY.000 and MONKEY.001 that's all..

jmfregosi It's really annoying to have a double figure in the frontend for every game.. i use both like you recalbox and batocera, hope that they can fix this in the next release ... when i go the scummvm section i don't see my scrapping pictures just the names of the games ..it's sucks ..

To load the ScummVM core you should open RetroArch, go to Load Core and select scummvm-libretro.so. Then on the RetroArch main menu select Start Core, that should take you to the ScummVM screen where you can add games as you do on any other ScummVM platform.

You need to open RetroArch, then Load Core, select scummvm-libretro.so and then on the main menu of RetroArch, select Start Core. This should show the ScummVM interface and here you can add the games.

@nouty first ensure that your ScummVM is starting. Whether you downloaded the core in RetroArch, or followed @bitdweller his guide, the core is probably located in /home/cpi/.config/retroarch/cores. That is the default location for downloads, and also the place where @bitdweller explained to put it. The name should be scummvm_libretro.so, @bitdweller wrote scummvm-libretro.so, however the downloadable core and the compiled one will both be scummvm_libretro.so.

The story starts out with our Hero, Guybrush Threepwood, on Scabb Island. He is once again bragging about his victory against the Ghost Pirate LeChuck; while letting us know that he wants to find the treasure of Big Whoop. He gets mugged by Largo LaGrande, a bully on the island and is stuck pennyless looking for a way to free himself from Scabb Island. Since Guybrush can't leave, Scabb Island is a great consolidated way to introduce us to the game mechanics. Guybrush will walk around and talk to people, looking for information on Largo and Big Whoop. The Voodoo Lady pops back up to ask for help creating a Voodoo doll to destroy Largo.

You just need four things to create a voodoo doll; something from the dead, something from the thread, something from the head, and something from the body. Get those for things from Largo, and you can attack him on his own terms. He'll leave the island, but not before stealing LeChuck's beard from Guybrush, thus creating the Zombie Pirate LeChuck. When did that beard get into Guybrush's inventory?

You'll Charter a ship and start to investigate the tri-island area. Booty Island is in constant Mardi Gras; and Elaine is governor and you get to go to a costume party. Phatt Island is less fun, and you end up in jail for a bit. There is a lot of travel between islands, especially if you don't know the solutions already. The game makes great use of multiple locations, and keeps them consistently interesting.

The game has an easy path, for game reviewers or beginners, which bypasses most of the puzzles. I never played this route before, but decided to partake in it for the purposes of this review. After playing the game the hard way, this approach took a few hours to plow through. It is an abbreviated version of the game, but you still get the gist. The puzzles are either cut out, or bypassed. Instead of chasing a map piece all around an island, you just pick it up. Instead of becoming a spitting master, you just ask for help and the puzzle goes away. I think this was a brilliant approach that helps make the game more accessible to beginners to the adventure genre. If more games did this, maybe we'd have a larger populating of adventure gamers.

I'm running the scummvm core with retroarch and the game runs fine, but I'm having a hard time enabling the text/subtitle of game. The ReadMe doc says to press Ctrl - q to enable subtitles, but that doesn't seem to work. I'm assuming it's meant the game running in Dos/Dosbox. Anyone figured out how to enable the text/subtitle for the game?

hey it's been over 10 years and i'm still getting this bug when trying to play monkey island! is there a new developer who can look into this? i cannot use scummvm since it does not allow direct native recording (and if i use OBS i get curved corners since my laptop is a macbook). can you find out what it was in the old hardware that caused the cursor to blink less? maybe there was something which took a few seconds on old hardware that is being done instantly with dosbox?

Excerpt from Memoirs...

I cursed my luck again as I slid down the monkey's throat. Have my dreams of guzzling grog and plundering galleons been reduced to this. "Three small trials and you're a pirate like us." Fair enough. If only I could stomach the foul brew these scurvy seadogs swilled, the rest would be easy. How could I have known I'd meet a powerful and beautiful woman with a jealous suitor too stupid to realize he'd been dead for years? And how can I crawl through this great stone monkey to find a man who walks three inches above the ground and sets fire to his beard every morning?

There are only a few moments where you were required to use those "specialty" verbs in the monkey games as part of the puzzle (such as opening the safe by pushing/pulling on the handle). I believe there were also some comedic moments when you could pull on some things and you get a funny response or do something silly, but not absolutely required. ff782bc1db
