Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf tells the story of a young boy living with his grandfather in a forest clearing and the adventure he and his amimal friends have when a wolf comes through the garden gate. Writtenas a child's introduction the the orchestra, each character is represented by a different instrument or group of instruments and features the full orchestra and a narrator to bring to life this classic tale.

But what I didn’t like had more to do with what wasn’t included: Anything to do with The Revuers, the group a young Lenny hung out with (and played piano for), though members and longtime friends and collaborators Betty Comden & Adolph Green do get some screen time. His younger brother, Burton, doesn’t figure at all. The Black Panther benefit resulting in “Radical Chic” — yes, I suppose this could have usurped the entire film, but it gets at Bernstein’s tortured sense of social justice (dating back to the McCarthy era) and the emergence of major marriage fissures that had only been hinted at in prior years. And I don’t think you can understand Bernstein as a conductor, musically, without Beethoven. There’s a reason that final performance of the 7th Symphony, months before he died, when he barely made it through, resonates so much.

The inclusion/exclusion issue really came through in one scene about a third of the way through the film: Bernstein leaves his apartment and runs into a young couple with their child. He kisses the man on the mouth, and then the woman. It’s a joyous, serendipitous reunion. Then he leans down, looks at the kid, and says that he has a secret: he’s slept with both parents. Everyone laughs, though there is plenty of discomfort.

Before discussing Judy, it’s worth getting into how David Oppenheim is portrayed in the film, and his own weird inclusion/exclusion. Matt Bomer is a major actor, and his casting as Oppenheim was seen as a significant move. And yet he’s barely in Maestro, perhaps five minutes of screen time at most, a lot of longing looks and gazes held a beat too much and he’s more or less offscreen after his odd family encounter with Bernstein. But by the early 1950s, the actual Oppenheim had become Columbia Records’ main A&R man for classical recordings, and worked with Bernstein repeatedly. He’d also marry twice more (his widow, Pat Jaffe, produced the amazing 1985 Vladimir Horowitz documentary The Last Romantic) and turned NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts into one of the school’s most notable departments.

Maestro accurately portrays Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre's three real-life children, Jamie, Alexander, and Nina. In fact, much of the authenticity found in every scene, shot, and detail of Bradley Cooper's film was made possible by the Bernstein family's incredibly generous cooperation and invitations into Leonard's home. They even granted access to his personal letters, which greatly informed Cooper's understanding of how to play the real-life legend as well as tell his story as the director, writer, and one of several producers alongside Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

Nina Bernstein Simmons is the youngest daughter of Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre. Like her brother, Nina has also studied acting and worked professionally for several years. She appeared in several documentaries made about Bernstein such as American Masters (1998-1999) and Leonard Bernstein: Larger Than Life (2016). According to Leonard Bernstein's website, Nina also "worked with the Library of Congress on making the Bernstein Archives digitally available to the public." In addition, Nina has worked as a "food educator in underserved communities."

Nina Bernstein is portrayed by actress Alexas Swinton in Maestro, known best for her roles as Eva Rhoades in the Showtime series Billions and as Rose Goldenblatt in HBO's And Just Like That. Swinton has had quite an acting career despite her being just 14 years old. She has also appeared in the 2015 Showtime miniseries Flesh and Bone executive produced by Pulp Fiction's Lawrence Bender, as well as Manifest (2019), Old (2021), and Emergence. Maestro marks the fourth feature film that the young actress has appeared in, which could end up being one of her most notable roles. Maestro was released on December 20, 2023, and is available to stream on Netflix.

Much of the movie was filmed in this house, where the children share cherished memories of their father, the composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein, and their mother, actress Felicia Montealegre.

FS: The first issue concludes with a flashback to the Maestro revealing to a young Willy his true origins and destiny. As the book continues, will you be weaving in hints as to how Willy and his father became so alienated?

Parents are an important target audience for many brands, but the diversity within the segment can pose a challenge for even the savviest of marketers. Parenting comes in many forms: single parents, dual-income, heterosexual parents, LBGTQ+ parents, foster parents, just for starters. And yet, many companies only seem to market to only one demographic and lump parents together as married mothers and fathers, even though this type of family is not necessarily as common as it once was.

Interestingly, according to a new study from HP Inc.,75 percent of Americans still identify the all-American family as white and heterosexual with children, while only 25 percent of American families actually match that portrait. Meanwhile GLAAD estimated that "more than 10 million people have one or more lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) parents."

Sofiya Deva, VP of marketing at Zen Media, a global marketing firm, also stressed the need for marketers to acknowledge more diverse parenting in marketing, so as not to lose entire segments and demographics (and meet the needs of real people), stating "as family dynamics and composition are quickly changing in the United States, marketing needs to catch up and reflect society as it is. Research shows that one in 10 children lives with a grandparent in the house, interracial or blended families are becoming the majority, and some children have same-sex parents. Showing these real family situations is key to reaching them as a market."

The Wonderful Company, currently one of the most successful food and beverage companies, wants people to live better lives. The company focused its strategy on being a consumer-first brand to connect with consumers in personal ways as our current use of technology can be overwhelming, as it is constantly changing how people consume food. The Wonderful Company wanted to change how parents with young kids eat for the better by introducing snack options that are healthy and affordable.

To understand the parents the company serves, Wyeth Nutrition developed a data-driven strategy to and improve its message relevancy to parents of young children. The company, which develops premium-quality nutritional products scientifically designed to meet the needs of infants, young children, and pregnant and lactating mothers, wanted to find a way to identify different segments based on their unique digital habits. To do this, the company worked with Google to identify different groups and their needs. e24fc04721
