"The original version was so lugubrious that Judy Garland refused to sing it. She said, 'If I sing that, little Margaret will cry and they'll think I'm a monster.' So I was young then and kind of arrogant, and I said, 'Well, I'm sorry you don't like it, Judy, but that's the way it is, and I don't really want to write a new lyric.' But Tom Drake, who played the boy next door, took me aside and said, 'Hugh, you've got to finish it. It's really a great song potentially, and I think you'll be sorry if you don't do it.' So I went home and I wrote the version that's in the movie."

"It Wasn't Me" is the first single from Jamaican-American reggae musician Shaggy's fifth studio album, Hot Shot (2000). The song features vocals from RikRok (credited as Rickardo "RikRok" Ducent). The lyrics of the song depict one man (RikRok) asking his friend (Shaggy) what to do after his girlfriend caught him cheating on her with "the girl next door". His friend's advice is to deny everything, despite clear evidence to the contrary, with the phrase "It wasn't me."

The song was spoofed by Bob Rivers, as Caught Me One Handed, and makes a reference to the Scooby-Doo character, Shaggy Rogers. The video focused on him being caught masturbating (about the girl next door) by his mother.[21] The song was also spoofed on Svengoolie. On The Chris Moyles Show, the song was used as a prank call with "Shaggy" (actually impressionist Jon Culshaw) trying to book a taxi, with the final line being "Can you drop me off at The Chris Moyles Show on BBC Radio 1?, 97 to 99 FM".[22]

This song isn't about something that actually happened to Taylor Swift. She wrote it in honor of the old couple that lived next door. She started thinking about what it would have been like if they grew up together. In that case, why would she choose 2 am? Why not midnight or just the middle of the night? Regardless of her reasoning, this marks the start of her love of 2 am.

Well, I got my first truck, when I was three

Drove a hundred thousand miles on my knees

Hauled marbles and rocks, and thought twice before

I hauled a Barbie Doll bed for the girl next door

She tried to pay me with a kiss and I began to understand

There's just something women like about a Pick-Up Man

this song reminds me about my at-one-time best friend, who was in fact a boy. he was two years older then me and we were next door neighbors. for about two years we were practically inseparable. i moved (although i was in the same town) when i was in 8th grade and he was a sophomore. what might have started out as a plutonic friendship was now taking on the shape of something that might have been more then just mere friendship. there was a woodsy area behind my old house (equipped with a little creek and a fallen tree) that was basically "our" place. eventually, we lost touch, and i found out some time later he's moved to a different state. thing song reminds me of him because he's pretty much the last best friend and only tie to my childhood i have left. i would really like to rekindle the friendship we once had, but i think it's too late for that...

THAT HAPPENED TO ME. except one year older and we weren't next door neighbors. i got my first kiss from him at a park in my neighborhood. we made out for what felt like forever. now he's dating my friend.... and i still have feelings for him. if anything i wish i could rewind to that sweet summer day and that's what this song does for me. 2351a5e196
