The battles themselves offer interesting twists on scenes from the manga, mixing and matching characters from throughout time periods and allowing characters who lived decades apart a chance to throw down. This can lead to some intensely satisfying matches, such as seeing Dio Brando, Victorian Vampire, throw down against his future version DIO, the magical time-controlling monster who lets a silver and gold golem do his fighting for him. Every battle also has mutators designed to mix things up, offering things like auto-refilling health and special bars, to better simulate the power imbalance between characters from the early and late periods of the manga, where things went from regular old monsters doing martial arts to cosmic battles between godly entities.

Arcade Mode is one of the playable game modes for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R. It's split between the following two battles: Challenge Battle and Endless Battle. For this mode, Jean Pierre Polnareff acts as the guide.

Challenge Battle functions as the standard arcade mode most fighting games have. Before beginning the Challenge Battle, players have the options to toggle the AI difficulty and arena gimmicks. After selecting a character, the player will go through 8 battles against randomized opponents and stages. Following the battles, players will then be ranked depending on how they performed throughout each fight. Depending on the rank, bonus gold may be earned alongside the Difficulty. It is possible to rematch after losing a fight, but upon winning, the player will automatically get a D grade regardless of performance. There is a leaderboard present showcasing the top 3 characters that the players score the highest points with.

Occassionally, Harvest will appear on the main menu screen, indicating that it's possible to gain more gold during Arcade Mode. However, if one was to fight through the very last consecutive battle, or end the battle and return to the character/mode select screen, the effect becomes nullified.

Challenge Battle is a single player mode of 8 consecutive battles. Your total results across all 8 battles are used to determine your grade. If you reach grade S with enough characters, you'll earn bonus gold based on your Challenge Difficulty.

In Endless Battle, fight against opponents who get stronger every round until you don't have any more health. Your health will carry over from battle to battle, but at the end of each battle, you'll get health back based on your time remaining. The combat style is that of a three-button setup, offering light, medium and heavy attacks with a dedicated dodge button to round out the movement. The game also includes an easy-beat option, which allows players to mash the light attack button for a simple combo, often ending with a flashy cinematic meter attack. On that note, each character has access to a meter bar that can be used for various moves, counters and cancels that differ from fighter to fighter. The biggest shift in combat from the 2013 version is the addition of assists that can be called in during battle. Every character on the roster can be used as an assist, and offer different uses depending on their assist style. Some place traps on the stage, some provide long range or short range attacks, and every assist can act as a combo breaker. They each have their own charge count that refills per round, but most have two offensive charges and one combo break charge.

All-Star Battle Mode is ASBR's signature single-player mission mode. Players must complete a minimum number of manga panels featuring titular Jojo battles to unlock boss panels on each page. Winning boss panel fights unlocks new features, like the ability to play stone mask characters outside of stone mask arenas in Versus mode.

Additionally, each panel rewards gold for completion, which one can use to buy artwork, music, and customization items from the gallery shop. Furthermore, certain items can only get unlocked by completing unique missions specific to a panel. Lastly, players can exchange gold for helpful support items to assist them in battle.

Each panel includes several secret missions one can complete throughout the battle. The key-shaped icons on the panel indicate the number of missions. When a player completes a secret mission, they can receive rewards like gold, artwork, customization items, and more!

Secret missions contain objectives similar to other fighting game mission modes. For instance, a secret mission could be an in-battle achievement like landing the first attack. Or a secret mission can be character-specific, like landing a signature attack or technique. 006ab0faaa
