DJ Professor K broadcasts the pirate radio station Jet Set Radio to gangs of youths known as the Rudies, who roam Tokyo-to, skating and spraying graffiti. One gang, the GGs, competes for turf with the all-female jilted lovers Love Shockers in the shopping districts of Shibuya-Cho, the cyborg otaku Noise Tanks in the Benten entertainment district, and the kaiju-loving Poison Jam in the Kogane dockyard. The authorities, led by Captain Onishima, pursue the gangs with riot police and military armaments. After the GGs defeat Poison Jam, Noise Tanks, and Love Shockers in turf wars, they each drop a piece of a mysterious vinyl record. Professor K says that the mysterious vinyl record collected is The Devil's Contract and has the power to summon a demon.

Jet Set Radio is recognized as one of the first games to feature cel-shaded graphics, with exaggerated shapes, thick lines, and flat, bright colors.[6] Insomniac owner Ted Price credited it as an influence on their game Sunset Overdrive.[80] Numerous indie developers have cited Jet Set Radio as a major influence on their games,[81] the most notable being the successfully crowdfunded Hover: Revolt of Gamers, Lethal League, and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, all of which draw heavy inspiration from Jet Set Radio's visuals and music and feature contributions from its composer, Hideki Naganuma.[82][83][84] The game has also been speedrun at Games Done Quick multiple times.[85][86][87][88] Other fan community-based Jet Set Radio projects include Jet Set Radio Live, a 24/7 browser-based radio station based on the fictional radio station in-game created in January 2016[89][90] and the albums Memories of Tokyo-To released on February 20, 2018 and Sounds of Tokyo-To Future by American musician 2 Mello on August 24, 2021.[91][92][93]

Last time I looked the lasers were available on ebay and elsewhere, and I was able to swap mine without issue. Even if it says the laser assembly isn't compatible with your version of the dreamcast you can still remove the laser from the assembly and swap it in to replace the bad laser.

Hi! Life kinda caught up with me, but I've looked at one of the radios once again, and it seems like not using a compressor actually has its flaws - at least a couple radio stations have got quite a bit of clipping at some places, esp. noticable after the DJ chatter. Maybe I should re-do this at some point, cause there's some things to be done better than they are currently - like weird EQ's (with highs cranked up to the max), strangely sounding transitions between lossless/adpcm, and All I Wanna Do running at the wrong speed. And that clipping, maybe you could extract the raw ADPCM offsets or something, idk

The game starts off with a prologue, narrated by DJ Professor K, the host of a pirate radio station based in Tokyo-to, who explains the hottest things in Tokyo's streets being the punks who wear newly developed magnetically driven in-line skates, and Jet Set Radio, the pirate radio station ran by him, the station plays nothing but non-stop hardcore music. DJ K reveals that the street punks have been named "Rudies", by the people of Tokyo-to, as they roam the streets and cover the city with their personal graffiti expressing themselves in the world. Despite this, the Metropolitan Government and a financial conglomerate known as the Rokkaku Group, combined their efforts to find the "21st Century Project" to stop the street punks, as police crackdowns have gotten more extreme as of lately. DJ Professor K states: "The streets of Tokyo-to are ready to explode..."

The initial stage is set in a Shibuya bus station, in which the player has to "tag" various parts of the bus station, as well as spray over existing tags, so as to gain the area as part of their territory. While tagging these places, the player is pursued by policemen and their leader, Captain Onishima. The police, the S.W.A.T team, and Goji Rokkaku's Golden Rhinos are yet another obstacle to avoid while defeating rival gangs. Also, Professor K narrates specific parts of the game via his eponymous pirate radio station called Jet Set Radio.

During their investigation, they run across a message sprayed on the wall telling them to go to Grind Square, possibly a message from Coin. They suspect these strange figures are around there as well. They start spraying graffiti all over Grind Square to bait them to come crash their operation. They learn shortly that Grind Square is actually formed and owned by the Rokkaku Group. They start to see a connection with the men in black suits with the Rokkaku group. They run across another message from Coin of a Golden Rhino. Unsure of what this symbol meant, Combo went through his sources to see who else could help in this situation. After hearing about the GGs and the pirate radio station Jet Set Radio thats been spreading through word of mouth, Combo and Cube set off for Tokyo-to. ff782bc1db
